- The film premiered out of competition at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival under its original title "The Convincer"; that version was edited by Stephen Mirrione and featured an original score by Alex Wurman and Bela Fleck. It was subsequently reedited by Lee Percy and re-scored by Jeff Danna. The new version has been retitled Thin Ice (2011)
- The film was initially released in an R-Rated Theatrical Version and later an exclusive Blu-ray Unrated Director's Cut. There is an approximate 16-minute difference. Most of the new material is mostly filler, but there are other changes as well, with the Unrated cut approaching the subject matter with a slightly more serious attitude. In addition, there are 15 additional scenes and 49 extended scenes in the Unrated release, but 2 scenes have been removed and 1 scene shortened compared to the Theatrical one.
