Vincent Maël Cardona Talks Studiocanal Lottery Ticket Thriller ‘No One Will Know’ + First Clip – Cannes Midnight Screenings
Image
Exclusive: French director Vincent Maël Cardona makes his Cannes Official Selection debut with huis-clos thriller No One Will Know, which premieres as a Midnight Screening.

The drama revolves around the clients and staff of the fictitious Le Roi Soleil café in the Paris periphery who unwittingly assist in the killing of an elderly regular just after he discovers he has won €294 million ($320M) in the lottery.

With the life-changing sum in their sights if not their grasp, the disparate group battle with their consciences and one another as they figure out a way to explain the death, as well as whether and how to take possession of the prize.

“They have to agree on a scenario, a fiction and a way of recounting what happened, which is not what happened, in a convincing manner, that stands up to scrutiny,” says Cardona. “They’re doing the work of a screenwriter.”

The Mask of Zorro: The Definitive Zorro adaptation?
Image
The “swashbuckling adventure” is a subgenre that became more and more antiquated as the spectacle of action movies evolved. It probably has less of an edge over westerns since the latter can still rely on gunplay, but sword-fighting films have roots in Hollywood since the golden era with movies like Robin Hood, The Three Musketeers and countless Pirate films. It was the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise that brought swashbucklers into a whole new world with modern audiences.

However, 1998 would see the return of a legendary folk hero, both in the context of the story and in the world of cinema, when Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment produced the Martin Campbell film The Mask of Zorro.

The History

Zorro was created in 1919 by Johnston McCulley. And amazingly this property (that’s over a hundred years old) still has influence on a bevy of popular characters that still goes strong today.

NCIS: Los Angeles star Chris O’Donnell gets a new show with 9-1-1 spin-off
Chris O'Donnell
A new 9-1-1 spin-off has its leading man.

Chris O’Donnell has joined the 9-1-1: Nashville cast.

The former NCIS: Los Angeles star had been taking a break from television following the cancellation of his show.

O’Donnell played the mysterious NCIS Special Agent G. Callen. That role kept him busy from 2009 to 2023.

NCIS: LA was his first time leading a hit television show, leading to crossover work on Hawaii Five-0, NCIS: Hawai’i, and NCIS.

A movie career is also featured in O’Donnell’s past.

O’Donnell’s most memorable film roles were as Charlie Simms in Scent of a Woman, D’Artagnan in The Three Musketeers, Robin in two Batman films, and Peter Garrett in Vertical Limit.

O’Donnell was also featured in nine exciting episodes of Grey’s Anatomy in 2006 as Dr. Finn Dandridge.

ABC's 911: Nashville finds its lead in NCIS franchise star
Image
911: Nashville has just found its first lead and it’s a face familiar to NCIS fans! Find out which NCIS: Los Angeles star has landed a new leading gig.

911 has seen some shifts this year. The mothership show is still going strong on ABC, having moved from Fox in 2024. Sadly, 911: Lone Star ended its five-season run earlier in 2025 with a grand finale.

The future looks bright for the franchise as ABC is working on a new spinoff for the 2025-26 season. Rather than a “backdoor pilot,” this is going straight to series, to be set in Nashville. That may be a surprising location yet the city’s history with country music and its Southern setting can lead to some big adventures.

The show is still in pre-production but just made a big move by casting Chris O’Donnell as its lead! Per Deadline, the NCIS: Los...

‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Casts Chris O’Donnell in Lead Role
Image
“9-1-1: Nashville” has found its leading man in Chris O’Donnell.

The “NCIS: Los Angeles” actor joins the ABC series as Captain Don Sharpe, who is described as “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son,” according to official character description. While Don is described as a “devoted husband and family man,” “he has his secrets,” the description teases.

Other details regarding the plot remain under wraps, though the procedural will follow the lives of first responders in the capital of Tennessee.

O’Donnell is one of the first cast members to board “9-1-1: Nashville,” which landed a series order at ABC in late February. “9-1-1: Nashville,” which marks the third series in the “9-1-1” franchise, hails from 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television, with Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear and Rashad Raisani serving as executive producers and writers.

In the Lost Lands Review: A B-Action Movie Held Back by 2000s Nostalgia
Image
Quick LinksIn the Lost Lands Excels a Genre-BlendingAudience's Come for the Action and Are Bored by the StoryGrey Alys is a Compelling Character, But it Takes Too Long To Show That

The following contains spoilers for In the Lost Lands, playing in theaters on March 7th, 2025.

Paul W.S. Anderson made a big name for himself in the early 2000s as the director of the controversial Resident Evil franchise. Since then, he has gone on to create many action movies like Monster Hunter and The Three Musketeers. His latest endeavor, alongside his long-time collaborator Mila Jovovich, was the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's short story, In the Lost Lands. The movie has all of Anderson's trademark style, and while it has some fun action, it feels like a B-movie that is stuck in 2002.

In the Lost Lands focuses on a witch, known as Grey Alys, venturing out into the...

‘In the Lost Lands’ Review: Paul W.S. Anderson’s Arrestingly Trashy George R.R. Martin Adaptation
Image
At the center of Paul W.S. Anderson’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s short story “In the Lost Lands” is Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich), a witch whose business dealings are known to end in ironic tragedy. Nevertheless, she’s tasked to obtain the gift of transforming into a werewolf for the queen (Amara Okereke) of a city built into a mountain, and to do so, Gray Alys contracts the hunter Boyce (Dave Bautista) to take her into the titular realm.

Anyone who’s seen his Resident Evil films and adaptations of Monster Hunter and The Three Musketeers knows that Anderson doesn’t place stock in fidelity to his source material. For one, there’s nothing in Martin’s story to suggest the post-apocalyptic Mad Max-esque world that the film portrays, a wasteland of skeletal ironwork blasted into shades of brown and gray. There are bloodthirsty church agents here who wear old-timey medieval robes,...

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut – How Did It Happen?
Image
Growing up, while watching Superman II over and over again on VHS, I couldn’t help but ask myself a few questions. Questions like – where’s Marlon Brando as Jor-El? Why does the music sound so shitty? Why does another actor dub Gene Hackman for like half of his dialogue? Why do Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder look so different from scene to scene? Why is it so tonally uneven? In a pre-internet era, where the drama on movie sets wasn’t chronicled in real-time online, no one really got what the deal was with Superman II. Once the internet became a thing, word of what really went on behind the scenes of Superman II went from being an urban legend to a confirmed fact.

Superman: The Movie was financed by Alexander Salkind and his son Ilya. They were movie moguls who, in the seventies, had produced two highly successful Three Musketeer movies.

The library of Cohen Media Group’s founder, Charles S. Cohen, comprises more than one hundred restored classic titles spanning from the silent era to the present day, including The Buster Keaton Collection and The Merchant Ivory Collection.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed and Cohen Media Group is the owner of HanWay, having acquired the company in 2022.

The Count of Monte Cristo (2024) Movie Review: Embracing Excess with a Smile and a Twirl of the Mustache
Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Mads Mikkelsen, Ray Stevenson, Christoph Waltz, and Luke Evans in The Three Musketeers (2011)
Like his most celebrated novel “The Three Musketeers,” Alexandre Dumas’s iconic tale “The Count of Monte Cristo” has been adapted so often in so many different cultural contexts—from the silent era to the American blockbuster to the plethora of Indian interpretations—that it becomes easy to forget a critical element that defines the writer’s oeuvre: Dumas was, in fact, very French. Bringing the story back to its home country, directors Alexandre de la Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte choose to remind viewers of this essential reality by embracing the story in true French fashion, with a cheeky wit in the face of its own posh self-seriousness.

Having seen great success penning last year’s duology adapting Dumas’s most famous story, de la Patellière and Delaporte upgrade themselves to the directors’ chair for “The Count of Monte Cristo” as they relay the tragedy of Edmond Dantès, the prototypical framed man.

The New Hollywood era -- which began with the release of the true story-based "Bonnie and Clyde" in 1967 before breathing its last in 1981 with Michael Cimino's notorious bomb "Heaven's Gate" -- was one of the most exhilarating artistic movements of the 20th century. It came after a fallow creative period for the major studios, which were mostly run by old moguls who'd lost the pulse of the moviegoing public. They didn't get the Baby Boomer generation, so when a younger, hipper group of executives and producers demonstrated a knack for packing the nation's theaters with movies like "Rosemary's Baby," "The Exorcist," and "The Godfather," there was a sudden changing of the guard (and mindset).

This mindset had nothing to do with the types of films being made. It was just as the great screenwriter William Goldman once quipped: when it came to what worked, nobody knew anything. What they did know,...

With these movies, Rassam, who is passionate about history, accomplished the rare feast of luring mainstream audiences, notably young adults, for costume movies shot in French. “The Count of Monte-Cristo” is now in its 24th week in French cinemas and has so far sold over 9.3 million admissions. It...

The movie will follow the story of young Erik Weisz (Houdini’s real name) as he rises to fame, with a script written by Michael Finch and Alex Litvak, known for John Wick: Chapter 4 and The Three Musketeers.

Image
Tim Curry's new horror movie, titled Stream, marks his big screen return after 14 years. Tax Incentives Aren’t the Only Reason Why ‘The Substance,’ ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ Shot in France
Image
Jacques Audiard’s musical thriller “Emilia Pérez,” Coralie Fargeat’s body horror “The Substance” and Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière’s epic adventure “The Count of Monte Cristo” have more in common than the fact that they’re directed by French filmmakers.

Despite being set in Mexico and Los Angeles, respectively, “Emilia Pérez” and “The Substance” both shot entirely in France, for the most part in studios in Paris.

France has been able to attract, host and retain a wide range of local and international productions, primarily thanks to its locations and crews, even if its tax incentives aren’t as competitive as in other popular filming destinations in Europe, such as London and Prague.

At a panel discussion at the American French Film Festival in Los Angeles, “The Count of Monte Cristo” producer Dimitri Rassam; Jay Roewe, SVP of production planning and incentives at HBO Max and Wbd; L.

The House of the Dead: Concept Art for Horror Game Adaptation Revealed
Image
Paul W.S. Anderson, best known for directing four of the original six Resident Evil movies, will bring another popular horror video game series to the big screen with The House of the Dead. The House of the Dead video game series began in 1997, one year after the first Resident Evil game, and the two games not only made zombie shooters a popular genre but also helped revitalize the zombie for modern audiences. The House of the Dead's innovation of fast-moving zombies would inspire films like 28 Days Later and Zack Snyder's remake of Dawn of the Dead.

Deadline reports that Paul W.S. Anderson has signed on to direct the upcoming film adaptation of The House of the Dead. Anderson has made a name for himself by directing video game adaptations. Not only did he direct four Resident Evil movies, but he also helmed 1995's Mortal Kombat and 2020's Monster Hunter.

Oliver Platt's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
The best Oliver Platt movies and TV shows include a mix of critically acclaimed shows and award-winning big screen feature films. Platt figured out from an early age that he wanted to be an actor and studied drama at Tufts University before starting to work in theater in Boston. His big break came when he met Bill Murray, who attended one of Platt's plays and then recommended that Jonathan Demme cast him in the movie Married to the Mob in 1988. That was Platt's big break and his career skyrocketed from there.

Since that big break, Platt took on a variety of roles in several genres, with appearances in Working Girl, Beethoven, The Three Musketeers, and Lake Placid. While his movie roles have been plentiful, and resulted in several award nominations, it was his entry to television that gave him a chance to become a bigger star. This started with a...

Bob Yerkes, Circus Trainer and ‘Back to the Future,’ ‘Remo Williams’ Stuntman, Dies at 92
Image
Bob Yerkes, the acrobatic stunt performer who slid down a clock tower cable for Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future and hung around the Statue of Liberty under repair for Fred Ward in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, has died. He was 92.

Yerkes died Tuesday of natural causes in Northridge, Darlene Ava Williams, a stunt performer and one of his many mentees, announced.

The amiable Yerkes, who started out in the circus and was a skilled trapeze aerialist and tightrope walker, also plummeted from a helicopter through a roof in Breakout (1975), starring Charles Bronson.

“I was getting ready for the stunt and the guy said, ‘Break a Leg!,” and I broke them both,” he recalled in a 2017 interview. He said he also broke legs while working on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Her Alibi (1989), but, in a career that spanned eight decades, that was the extent of his serious injuries.

Oliver Reed Almost Starred in James Bond and Jaws
Image
There are plenty of stories of missed out roles or different casting choices that can leave one's head spinning; we were this close to living in a reality where Burt Reynolds played Han Solo. It is always interesting to wonder what could have been, but we don't always focus on why it turned out that way. For some actors, they made a mistake thinking the movie part was not for them. For others, it was just a conflict of schedule that had them missing out from landing that iconic role.

There is also a darker side to this, and some actors end up finding themselves turned down because of their behavior off and on set. This is certainly the case with British actor Oliver Reed, who lost out on roles like James Bond, and turned down a part in Jaws, due to his problems with drinking and for his scandalous behavior.

The Hollywood Museum: Joseff of Hollywood
Image
by Chad Kennerk

Founded in 1928 by Eugene Joseff, Joseff of Hollywood has been providing jewellery rentals to movie studios since the Golden Age of Hollywood. Joseff often worked in tandem with studio costume designers. When censors opposed the cut of Lana Turner’s gowns in the 1948 The Three Musketeers, Joseff designed a brooch to strategically place on the costume. It made the censors happy and gave a regal air to Plunkett’s costumes. The brooches were among the Joseff lots that came up for auction back in 2017.

Though portions of the collection have come to auction in the past, remarkably, Joseff has maintained over 200,000 pieces in their ‘Studio Collection’. A source once reported that up to 85% of the jewellery seen on the silver screen at the height of movie glamour throughout the...

Image
French studio Pathé has seen its marketing and programming strategy pay off with “The Count of Monte Cristo,” an epic adventure film adapted from Alexandre Dumas’ classic which struck box office gold in France during a competitive summer marked by the Olympics.

Helmed by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière (“The Three Musketeers”), the sweeping three-hour movie has become a proper French blockbuster, selling more than 8 million tickets locally (as of Sept. 9) and grossing over $75 million internationally with most major markets yet to open. These include the U.S where Samuel Goldwyn Films will release “The Count of Monte Cristo” in December.

The movie, produced by Dimitri Rassam’s Chapter 2 with a budget of €43 million, world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival where it earned unanimous praise with Variety’s Peter Debruge calling it a “genuine triumph” and “a stunning, emotionally satisfying adventure tale.”

Although it’s based on a classic of French literature,...

James Bond: 10 Iconic Actors Who Would Have Been Perfect As 007
Image
James Bond has been played by some iconic actors, but there are plenty of other classic performers who could have easily been definitive in the role themselves. The early James Bond films established the tone and style of the series, which continues well into the 21st century. While discussions are still being held at the time of this writing over who will replace Daniel Craig in the upcoming James Bond 26 following his swan song in No Time to Die, those kinds of debates have been waged for decades.

Even looking back at the era of Sean Connery's James Bond films, several classically trained actors of the stage and screen would have made fitting additions to the franchise. Many of them were even actively considered or offered the part, but all ultimately turned it down for various reasons. Still, it's worth looking back at some of the most interesting classic...

“There was no chicken exit here”: Charlie Sheen Had a Terrifying Experience on ‘Friends’ For One Reason Years Before Conquering Television With ‘Two and a Half Men’
Image
The Friends TV show was perhaps NBC’s one of the most successful series, which went on from 1994 to 2004. The sitcom starred Hollywood’s finest actors as the main cast, but the guest roles also included some big names from the industry. Surprisingly a renowned movie star once freaked out while filming a guest appearance on the show.

Before he landed his role of Charlie Harper on the CBS sitcom, Two and a Half Men in 2003, the actor had a successful career in the movies. Charlie Sheen was well-versed in acting, but in front of a rolling camera, not a live audience. The difference was so huge that when he appeared for a cameo on Friends, he initially could not perform.

Should France Submit ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ or ‘Emilia Perez’ to the Oscars?
Image
After missing out on sending “Anatomy of a Fall” as its official entry, the stakes are high for France’s revamped Oscar committee to avoid missing out on another opportunity to give the country its first Oscar win for best international feature in over three decades. But don’t expect the French to make the obvious choice.

On paper, Jacques Audiard’s exhilarating redemption thriller “Emilia Perez,” which won two major awards at the Cannes Film Festival along and earned rave reviews, is a shoo-in. Audiard is a revered French auteur who won a Palme d’Or with “Dheepan,” was previously nominated for a foreign-language Oscar with “A Prophet” and is well known internationally. “Emilia Perez,” which stars Karla Sofía Gascón as a fearsome drug lord who embraces his true self as a woman, struck a chord at Cannes where it earned one of this year’s longest standing ovations.

Celebrating ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ at 60: The Beatles debut in a fun-filled romp
Image
Six decades ago, we were in the throes of Beatlemania. The Fab Four scored their first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart “I Want to Hold Your Hand” on Feb. 1. And the U.S. got to meet The Beatles, four lads from Liverpool when they invaded the U.S. that month making three historic appearances on CBS’ “The Ed Sullivan Show.” They were met with the screams of young girls with burgeoning hormones. By April 4, they had the top five singles on the chart: “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “Please Please Me.”

Despite their extraordinary success, hopes weren’t high for their first film, “A Hard Day’s Night,” which opened in the U.S. on Aug. 11. Most films starring a group or singer du jour were horrible. So much so, the New York Times’ Bosley Crowther was in...

Guy Ritchie Nailed This Under-Explored Part of Sherlock Holmes Lore
Image
Sherlock Holmes is one of the most beloved characters in fiction and serves as the epitome of what a great detective should be. Given that the rights to the character are now within the public domain, any studio or production company can make a project based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyles source material. Like Robin Hood, King Arthur, The Three Musketeers, Tarzan, and Zorro, Holmes has appeared in so many different adaptations that even someone who has never read any of the original stories may consider themselves to be an expert on the character. However, the two Sherlock Holmes films from director Guy Ritchie were the first to in-depth explore Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) skills as a boxer.

10 Rotten Disney Animated Movies That Are Actually Good
Image
Critics and audiences are not always on the same page when reviewing a movie or television show. Sometimes, critically acclaimed films or TV series fail to earn the public's interest. In other cases, audiences might love a movie or television show that critics dislike. And this is the case for many Disney animated movies.

Disney animated movies aren't always critically acclaimed. However, this doesn't mean these movies are bad. Films like Robin Hood and Brother Bear have become popular Disney classics that many believe are critically underrated. And in other cases, while a movie might have its bad moments, the overall result is still enjoyable and fun, making these Disney animated movies undeserving of the "rotten" title.
