Once upon a time, superhero aficionados had to get their fix in the pages of comic books. On rare occasions, the adventures of those heroes were taken to the screen, with characters like Captain America and Batman starring in serialized adventures as early as the 1940s. The colorful camp of the "Batman" TV series in the '60s brought comic books to new mainstream popularity, setting the stage for the rise of blockbuster comic book movies in the late 20th century. Now, multiplexes are bursting with superhero movies, a genre that has grown to become one of Hollywood's most lucrative; in fact, four of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time have their roots in the pages of comics.
Of course, hit films inevitably breed sequels, and films featuring Iron Man, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Superman, Batman and various other super-powered types with "man" in their names have habitually returned for various big-screen adventures.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Have Been Separated Since 2016 – But Don’t Plan to Divorce (Video)
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith — one of Hollywood’s most influential power couples — have been quietly separated since 2016, Jada Pinkett Smith disclosed Wednesday on “Today.”
According to Smith, the couple, who has been married since 1997, realized that their relationship wasn’t going to work seven years ago and began to “live separately.”
“By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” Smith said.
Will Smith alluded to something similar during a recent episode of Kevin Hart’s Peacock talkshow, “Hart to Heart.” In the episode, Smith explained that he originally envisioned for his family to be a Hollywood powerhouse. However, when his children pushed back against his demands for their music and film careers, he let that dream go.

This post contains spoilers for "True Story"
Kevin Hart is basically a human version of Netflix at this point, churning out projects and pumping the media ecosystem with as much of himself as possible. From his Peacock chat show "Hart to Heart" to his 2021 Netflix dramedy "Fatherhood"; his docuseries "Don't F*** This Up" to his stand-up specials, Hart has capitalized on his popularity to the extreme. He even popped up on "Talking Watches" in 2023, since evidently developing a taste for the finer things.
Somehow, the man also found time to make his television drama debut in 2021's "True Story." Arriving on Netflix in November 2021, "True Story" is a limited series in which Hart and Wesley Snipes play brothers, and is loosely based on the former's career as a stand-up comedian. Hart plays a version of himself named Kid, who kicks off a comedy tour in his native Philadelphia. At the show,...

Will Smith is sharing how “Emancipation” revitalized his religious beliefs.
The 2022 historical epic, helmed by Antoine Fuqua, starred Smith as real-life former slave “Whipped Peter.” The film was inspired by the 1863 photos of “Whipped Peter” taken during a Union Army medical examination and showed the scars on Peter’s back; the photograph, first published in Harper’s Weekly, added to the growing public opposition to slavery.
For the film, Smith wore real metal chains to evoke the reality that Peter dealt with.
“I went too far in ‘Emancipation.’ Just bringing it up, I start to get teary,” Smith said during Kevin Hart’s Peacock talk show “Hart to Heart.” “I wanted to feel the degradation of slavery, and I went too far in. That level of human brutality…I had the chains on my neck and we were working. I wanted the real weight of them. I wanted real chains.

Will Smith told Kevin Hart on a new episode of Peacock’s “Hart to Heart” talk show that he “went too far” as an actor while portraying a slave in the Apple drama “Emancipation.” The film, Smith’s first release after the notorious Oscars slap, centered on the true story of a runaway slave named Peter, a photograph of whom became a rallying call for the abolition of slavery as it depicted his mutilated back scars from several whippings.
“I went too far in ‘Emancipation,’” Smith said. “Just bringing it up, I start to get teary. I wanted to feel the degradation of slavery, and I went too far in. Dwayne Johnson says the failed ‘Black Adam’ sequel got lost in a “vortex of new leadership” at Warner Bros Discovery. He opened up about it getting dropped on a recent episode of Kevin Hart’s ‘Hart to Heart’ show, on which he talked about the passion project that saw him play the titular ancient superhero. When Dwayne, 51, was asked by Kevin, 44, how he felt that the franchise was halted, the actor said: “‘Black Adam’ got caught in a vortex of new leadership. And at that time, as we were creating ‘Black Adam’, developing it, shooting ‘Black Adam’… it was so many changes in leadership. “And as you know, anytime you have a company, but especially that size and magnitude that’s a publicly traded company, and you have all those changes in leadership, you have people coming in who, creatively and fiscally, are going to make decisions that you may not agree with.

Following the massive success of summer blockbuster Independence Day – opening at #1 and going on to be the highest-grossing movie of 1996 – Will Smith had his pick of what movie he wanted to do next, with countless offers hitting his desk. Whatever that project would be, he just wanted to avoid aliens. Fortunately, a director who has a lengthy history with extraterrestrials used his power – and some Hollywood flash – to convince Will Smith that his next project would in fact be Men in Black.
Speaking with Kevin Hart on Hart to Heart, Will Smith said producer James Lassiter first brought Men in Black to him. “[Lassiter] picked Men in Black…I kinda understood Men in Black like a little bit, but I didn’t want to make Men in Black — that was the next year after Independence Day. So I didn’t want to make two alien movies back to back.” Enter...

It's been almost a year since "Black Adam" failed to deliver on its promise that "the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change." Or rather, it did change, just not in the way that star Dwayne Johnson had been banking on. With box office returns of $393 million, "Black Adam" fell short of the break-even point in its theatrical run. Worse, the movie was panned (read /Film's far from enthusiastic review here), making it yet another DC Universe movie that failed to launch with critics or audiences.
As a result, the planned sequel (featuring Black Adam fighting Henry Cavill's Superman) isn't seeing the light of day. Nor will it ever, given that DC films are now under the reign of James Gunn and Peter Safran, who don't have plans for Black Adam.

When “Black Adam” was conceived, the plan was to hopefully spark a DC film franchise that would see Dwayne Johnson’s antihero superhero return in sequels and appear in other movies within the DC universe, with a post-credits sequence featuring the return of Henry Cavill as Superman setting up an epic battle between the two characters.
However, when James Gunn and Peter Safran were named co-heads of Warner Bros.’ DC Studios in October 2022, plans for a “Black Adam” sequel were scuttled and the character ditched altogether, dashing Johnson’s hopes of a franchise.
During a recent appearance on Kevin Hart’s talk show “Hart to Heart”, Johnson explained how “Black Adam” came to be a casualty of DC Studios’ regime change.

Holywood is a tough business. We are even seeing it nowadays with the current. Actors’ and writers’ strikes that are happening right at this moment. The strikes don’t seem to have an ending in sight, and the studios keep burning millions of dollars every day. That seems to be a better option than talking through the many points of contention they have with the creatives who have been writing and acting in those countless movies and shows. It seems that Dwayne Johnson and his ‘Black Adam‘ project got caught in a similar situation at Warner Bros.

Will Smith's journey towards global domination is well-established at this point. The man who parlayed novelty rap hits such as "Parents Just Don't Understand" into one of the most successful acting careers in Hollywood history is, barring some unfortunate recent developments, a gargantuan of the entertainment industry. At least, that's how Kevin Hart feels. The comedian recently added Smith to his undeniably impressive roster of guests for season 1 of his talk show "Hart to Heart," which has already played host to such legends as the famously reclusive Dr. Dre.
Smith and Hart's conversation was noteworthy for the way in which Hart clearly idolized his guest's career trajectory, and by his own admission tried to emulate it in his own life. As a result, the "Ride Along" star managed to elicit some fairly deep insights from his guest, including that Smith had basically lost a sense of who he...

In a just-released clip from his Peacock show Hart to Heart, Kevin Hart asks Dwayne Johnson why, given what Hart sees as a successful opening and “an appetite from your fan base,” Black Adam didn’t get a sequel.
“I think that Black Adam got caught in a vortex of new leadership,” Johnson answers, adding that it “got knocked down a bit” because of Covid-related stoppages. Johnson then moved back to issues with leadership.
“It was so many changes in leadership. Anytime you have a company, a publicly-traded company, and you have all those changes in leadership, you have people coming in who creatively, fiscally, are going to make decisions that you may not agree with, philosophically.”
Last December, Johnson took to social media to relate a conversation with DC Studios co-head James Gunn that Black Adam wouldn’t be a part of the first phase of DC’s new plans.

“Men in Black” may be one of Will Smith’s most iconic roles, but he almost passed on the project.
“I kind of understood ‘Men in Black’ a little bit, but I didn’t want to make ‘Men in Black.’ That was the next year after ‘Independence Day,’ so I didn’t want to make two alien movies back-to-back,” Smith told Kevin Hart on the comedian’s Peacock talkshow, “Hart to Heart.”
It was Smith’s manager James Lassiter, also known as J.L., who first suggested the project to him. But it was “Men in Black’s” producer Steven Spielberg who got the yes.
Spielberg sent a helicopter to pick up Smith and take him to his house. “He flew me in, and he said the coldest s–t. He said ‘Tell me why you don’t want to make my movie,'” Smith said. “And he put the ellipses at the end.

When Will Smith was ready to turn down the role of Agent J in 1997’s “Men in Black,” executive producer Steven Spielberg decided to take matters into his own hands. During a recent appearance on Kevin Hart’s “Hart to Heart” talk show (via Insider), Smith told the story of Spielberg sending a helicopter to bring him in for a meeting in which Spielberg questioned Smith’s apprehension over “Men in Black.”
It all started with Smith not wanting to make another alien-centric movie after 1996’s “Independence Day,” his first bonafide blockbuster. James Lassiter, Smith’s former manager, urged Smith to take the role of Agent J. According to Smith, Lassiter was “the arbiter of taste” for his acting career.
“In the heyday, the 10 movies I made at the top of my career, [James] was choosing the films,” Smith said. “He just had an eye. I didn’t want to make ‘Pursuit of Happyness.

Will Smith is revealing how Steven Spielberg convinced him to take on a lead role in Men in Black.

Smith said Lassiter was “the arbiter of taste” and is actually the reason he even signed on to some of his most notable projects and roles. “In the heyday, the 10 movies I made at the top of my career, Jl was choosing the films,” he said. “He just, he just had an eye, I didn’t want to make Pursuit of Happyness. You know the difference between Will Smith and any other young star of the mid-90s? He makes alien policing look good. As new recruit Agent J, Smith brought perfect energy to bounce off of crusty veteran Agent K, played by Tommy Lee Jones. With those two in the lead, Men in Black became an instant classic, brimming with buddy chemistry as the titular agents hunt down a rogue bug alien played by a transcendent Vincent D’Onofrio.

Dr. Dre has revealed why he turned down opportunities to work with fellow legends like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Stevie Wonder. While appearing on a recent episode of Kevin Hart’s Peacock talk show Hart to Heart, the producer said he “bowed out” of the collaborations because he didn’t want to tarnish how he felt about them as artists.
“They just asked me to work with them and I just was like, ‘What the fuck am I going to do with them?'” Dre told Hart after being asked whether he had any regrets. He elaborated that he didn’t want to affect “the way I feel about Stevie, Prince, Michael, Bruce Springsteen, and all of these amazing artists,” which “could change by working with them.”
“These are my fucking heroes,” he said. “I like the idea of what I grew up listening to and I want to keep it like that.

In 2015, the TV academy made the decision to split the variety series Emmy category into two separate ones in order to better recognize achievements in the talk and scripted subgenres. This year, there are 19 shows vying for spots in the Best Talk Series lineup. The amount of 2022 hopefuls was also 19, which was down from 20 in 2021 and 24 in 2020. Four of the series listed below will reap bids this year, giving each entry pretty good odds.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their ballots for their favorite talk shows. Unlike at the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.
Whereas they could previously make as many selections as they liked in each category, voters will now be limited to four choices here, reflecting the number of eventual nominees. Which of the talk series listed...

Exclusive: The late-night community is over the moon after it emerged that there will be five Emmy nominations this year.
Emmy voting opened today, and Deadline understands that there are 19 submissions in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category, far more than expected, which, given the math, means that there will be five nominations this year.
One late-night source told Deadline this was “unexpected” but a “positive” move, meaning that that the sector no longer has to lament the loss of another Emmy slot.
Given that Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has been moved to the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series category this year after seven consecutive wins for Outstanding Variety Talk Series, it is a boon for The Daily Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live!
It could also the door to shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon...

Universal Pictures has changed its release plans for its as-yet-untitled buddy comedy from comedians Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy — the SNL writing trio collectively known as Please Don’t Destroy. While the film was previously set to hit theaters on August 18th, it will now debut exclusively on Peacock on November 17th.
Produced by Judd Apatow for Apatow Productions and Jimmy Miller for Mosaic, the film centers on three childhood friends who live and work together, and question where their lives are headed — if anywhere at all. Completely ill-equipped and out of their element, they set off to find a lost treasure rumored to be buried in their local mountains. They subsequently discover that finding the treasure is actually the easiest part of the adventure.
Shot last summer during SNL‘s off-season with the late-night series’ Paul Briganti at the helm, the comedy is penned by Marshall, Higgins and Herlihy,...
