Amazing!!

Warning: Spoilers
A good amount of disturbing but still has great lore :) i certainly reccomend also watching "Lucky You" and "Guilty" (videos thats links were hidden in the other videos) by Martin Walls as well, since it makes you understand the lore even better i think!! Definitely gives you more input on how Felix is like.

The Walten Files is absolutely one of the most perfectly written and put together web series I've watched. I absolutely love this series and hope it gets the attention it deserves.

Very awesome web series

The Walten Files is a quality web series. It's a little slow at times, but it builds up tension and can genuinely be scary. It also has a good and enjoyable story with some nice mystery. The series is overall very awesome.

Plot is derivative of FNAF but execution is fantastic.
adamzpildal23 October 2021
The main story of the series is very heavily inspired by the five nights at freddys series, drawing on many of the same elements. However the visual and auditory design of the tapes is amazingly well done, and work together to create a truly creepy atmosphere.

Creepy and Clever!
wolfiepusgalaxy16 August 2021
This is one of the most interesting Fnaf inspired spin-offs I've ever seen. I think the animation mixed with live action is so cool and is a nice contrast. The story is really sad and is about the failings of humans and their relationships with some animatronics and murder mixed in. Overall, I enjoyed this SO much and I highly recommend for anyone that loves Fnaf and/or horror!

possibly better than fnaf???
aleonardoartz5 May 2023
I understand this series is inspired by FNAF, but in my opinion, the walten files does a better job at telling its story than fnaf. That might be due to the fact that it's clear fnaf didn't have a clear storyline when it originally started, but it's obvious the walten files does. I also understand the story is just getting started but it's already had some really strong footing. As surface level wacky some of the scenes are, the character design is really unique. This is likely the peak of analog horror and fnaf-inspired story telling but i'm not gonna hold my breath for it. I don't know what else to add.

It kool i guess :)

Interesting plot and characters, great spooky moments, and despite being animated on a phone, the art style is very interesting and benefits the series. The show uses very few jumpscares despite what it's originally based and instead relies on psychological horror and dreadful moments.

Heavily inspired to a perfection
rachunnjago7 November 2021
The one thing you'll notice as soon as you start watching is how closely it resembles FNaF, but it does just enough mixing and matching elements of its inspiration that it has equal parts original story (a much simpler one, by comparison) and inspired or borrowed ideas that you can appropriately call it inspired and not a mishmash of parts and pieces with names shuffled around.

While some parts drag on for a bit too long, the visuals and atmosphere of the tapes are absolutely fantastic and make up for it, the story is really great as well. I absolutely recommended this series to anyone that is a fan of horror.

Bad FNaF Fanfiction
kenthesweet-0347621 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What is the fuss about? You have to have minimum exposure to truly scary content to find this terrifying or even remotely interesting. I can appreciate the effort put into this ARG, but man is the execution laughable.

My gripes:

70's/80's archival footage concept is very unimmersive and unrealistic. Between the arcade game that looks like nothing out of the decade and the footage that exists before camcorders existed, this is certainly a huge con for anyone looking for immersion that knows anything about the 70's/80's.

The art is ugly. Whenever I see the goofy animatronics, I feel like I was teleported back to a 12 year old's Newgrounds account in the early 2000's. The art alternates between this and what seems to be bad MS Paint art.

The scares aren't there. People here are claiming that this is genuinely terrifying, but I don't know who can be scared by spooky faces filling their screens. I'll give it a point for not resorting to standard jump scare music, but every time some distorted or bloodstained face appeared on my screen I sighed.

The writing in general is pretty bad, along with most of the acting.

The storyline/concept up until now is pretty bland as well. An alcoholic picks up his friend/business partner's kids while drunk and they die in an accident. Something happens and the father ends up inside of an animatronic animal and murders people. Yawn.

The found footage sections are over-acted and lacking in imagination.

This series lacks any nuance or subtlety, and contrary to the beliefs of its fans, is about as scary as a generic Hollywood horror film.

I will give the series two positive points, however: the music is great (although it seems to be from the unrelated terrifyingly fantastic album chronicling the stages of dementia; Everywhere At The End of Time), and despite its lack of realism the video game segment was the most entertaining aspect of the whole series.

My takeaway from this is that if you are scared by things like Five Nights at Freddies, creepypastas, or SCPs, this might be up your alley. But if you consider that 'kiddy stuff' then this can be lumped along with those. Thankfully I didn't invest time in the series itself, but rather an abridged dissection of it, meaning I only wasted around an hour and a half of my life on this.

Fresh take on the genre.
zachisback-4298219 November 2021
The analog horror genre got the spotlight with squimpus mcgrimpus, but never before have I seen such an amazing series on YouTube. It has the perfect mix of suspense and terrifying imagery, not to mention the horrifying sound design. One of the best yt series I have ever seen.

OH MY GOSH ITS SO GOOD. I've just gotten into more analog horror series on YouTube such as local 58 and this one caught my eye. It's definitely evolved from its roots as a fnaf inspired vhs series to a series with a deep storyline and absolutely terrifying imagery. It's amazingly gruesome, and I live for it.

Amazing, very few critiques
alanabanks3 June 2023
My critiques for this series are very few. The story is easy to follow, the art style is true to the theme of the series, which adds to the creep factor, the lore is my god, SO GOOD, and it does require a bit of thought to process some things shown. For something that was originally a fan game of FNaF, it's actually really good. But positive things aside, I will get into my very few critiques. (This is not a complaint but I will say the series is very gory and there is LOTS of body horror, real screaming, distorted faces, eye contact, and realistic animation.* The story can drag on at times, but is overall easy to follow. There are times where you are left at a point where you have no idea what is happening. The story is a bit too inspired by FNaf, but I'll let it slide because they put an amazing twist on it. I enjoyed the extra videos they hid inside, but I wish there was more. That's it. Enjoy the series. Peace.

Well Done For What Was Originally A Fangame
jeremycrimsonfox18 January 2022
The Walten Files is a neat little series of YouTube video. Originally planned as a fangame set in the Five Nights at Freddy's universe, this would become its own series, as each episode is a video found by a man named Anthony from Bunny Smiles Inc, a defunct company that owns restaurant Bon's Burgers. This is a series not for the faint of heart or anyone under eighteen, as this is basically like Five Nights at Freddy's, only more effective. As this is a horror series, expect the usual jumpscares and horror as these videos, which mix different kind of styles, like CGI, storybook, and even archived footage in the vein of that seen in movies like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, add to the already creepy atmosphere.

Really good
milliejones-8177213 December 2022
There's gore, dead people, jumpscares etc but honestly it's not that bad, if you're fine with some fnaf styled vhs, you should be good with it.

Story is a really good mystery, and I'm looking forward to the next instalment, can be disturbing at times though.

Some shock factor is obviously toned down since a lot of it is drawn, and iirc there's some 3D animation in some parts(?), but it still makes for a good watch. I was mid-teens when I watched it originally, and it never affected me all that badly.

Overall, If you're okay with analog fnaf vhs, hand drawn blood, etc, you should be okay with this watch.

This is the scariest thing on YouTube. This man took time on this and achieved this series. Really well done, good scares and good storyline 10/10 would rewatch.

I like it (:
tarbunny12 November 2021
It's a good watch.

I like it so far. It's got good build up for the creepy scenes. Doesn't rely too much on jumpscare. And I like the unique art style by Martin Walls. The ARG elements are well implemented and not too cryptic, but not too obvious. I like that it's more of a direct story then a bunch of hidden details.

I'll definitely watch the whole series when it comes out and I wish the best of luck for all the people who work on the show. I see a lot of potential 👌

drewgtaylor16 February 2022
This review title is unoriginal and uninspired I am sorry But the series is extremely well written and the characters are extremely captivating and the creator Martin Walls is very imaginative with this story I also think the the mixture of live action and the animation is pretty cool and adds to the uncanniness of the series plus did I mention that the horror in it is extremely well because it gets rid of jump scares and creates a new form of horror this being the faces that stare at you with the background around them completely dark.

Overhyped and Mediocre at best.
teatime_souptime23 November 2021
I've seen many people calling this series "a masterpiece", "clever", "terrifying", "amazing" and "one of the best analog horror series on YouTube". I've also seen people call it "a fresh take on the genre". The Walten Files has been given too much credit and praise while giving no reason to be regarded so highly.

Let me begin by saying that I have nothing against the creator himself, and that I recognize the effort he must have put into creating the series. However, putting in work and effort doesn't mean your creation will be good.

The story is too derivative of Five Nights at Freddy's, to the point where I found difficulty to recognize it as its own thing. It brings absolutely nothing new to the table and the plot is given too much credit. Like another review said, it feels like a really bad Five Nights at Freddy's fan fiction. Even the name "Bon's Burgers" feels like an attempt to slightly change the original to make it look like a different concept. This series fails at being immersive and doesn't have that "realistic" quality that other ARGs and analog horror series have. There's no way on this Earth I'd ever believe this story is "real". The writing and most of the acting are so bad that I struggled to watch the whole thing without getting frustrated. The fact that many of the things that were meant to be terrifying made my friends and I either laugh or roll our eyes just shows how much this series failed at its main objective. Because it absolutely fails at being immersive and making the viewer place themselves in the scenario, it got painful to watch at times. The story overall is pretty bland and nothing new. This series is the equivalent to a student copying someone else's homework and then slightly changing it. I've seen Five Nights at Freddy's fan games with more creativity and originality, better art, animation and plots than this series.

The visuals don't help at all. While some of the distorted faces can be creepy and unsettling at times, some are just plain laughable and feel cheap. Some of them don't even give off that uncanny valley type of distortion and just look silly. The 70s/80s concept and aesthetic fails completely, since the series looks and feels nothing like anything from this time period. The art and design are terrible and ugly; a lot of the drawings feel more like bad furry art and a child's MS Paint drawings. Some of the drawings even look like bad Animal Crossing villager fan art. None of the art looks like anything that would be produced in the time frame the story is set in, and the logos (if I could even call them that) look nothing like actual logos companies would use. The alternating between semi-realistic pictures and the drawings and animation is jarring, and not in a scary way, though I guess one could say it's scary how bad this series is. This particular aspect is another reason as to why the series fails at immersion. It was also a mistake to use what sounds like AI generated speech, since again, it makes it sound nothing like something from the 70s/80s.

Like I wrote previously, some visuals can be unsettling, but they have no substance. While the creator must have put time and effort into this series, it doesn't look like he did. The only good thing about this series was some of the sound design/music.

As a graphic designer and art student (even though you don't need to know a thing about art or video editing to know the art and visuals in this series are bad), this entire series is a painful eyesore. It's mostly terrible art and animation with a VHS filter on top. How am I supposed to believe a lot of it is "found footage" when the video is made with that god awful art and animation?

I'm glad I watched more condensed versions of the series than the whole thing, though I still wasted time on this story that I'll never get back. This series tries so hard to be scary and fails miserably.

The best analog horror I've seen
kaiascherza1 August 2023
The Walten files is fantastic. It has an amazing story, has amazing characters, has amazing visuals, and is pretty scary and some times. And to those who say it is too inspired by FNaF, it is inspired, but barely. It just got FNaF's animatronics that kill people, but aside from that, it is a completely story. FNaF is about a child murderer. The Walten Files definitely isn't. The mix between live action and animation also looks really cool, though it might not be for everyone, as it uses a lot of gore. And the music! The music is really REALLY great, and adds so much to the already great series.

But aside from that, the Walten Files is an amazing, unique series, and I can't wait for the next episodes!

Traumatized me
videgawatch202425 January 2024
This is THE analog horror. It features mixture between found footage, current time and past, but in a HORRIFYING way. The death scenes don't hold back, as it shows all the victims' faces post killings.

One scene in particular made me sick due to how disturbing it was. On episode 3, "Bunnyfarm", it shows a video of one of the victims being killed with a censor box over, showing the victims' terrified face, obviously crying and screaming. You can hear their loud cries and scream for help, while a very distorted vintage song plays. It is then implied how they died, which I will not spoil.

If you're looking for something to make you unsettled, scared or anything in relation, this is your go-to.

A must watch for fans of analog horror
The Walten Files is one of the best web series a have watched. If you're a fan of the ARG and analog horror genres then this is a must watch. It has a FNaF style plot but manages to twist it to send shivers down your spine. A 10/10 series from start to finish. I can't wait for more episodes for this series.
