The cast of Schitt's Creek (2015) reunited to present 2 awards to Hacks (2021). There was a slight technical snafu with the teleprompter in which Eugene Levy confessed that he asked a room full of comedy writers to "lift" some of his lines off of the teleprompter.
What a lot of people didn't realize is that the teleprompter gag was part of the Schitt's Creek (2015) cast's on-camera bit.
The cast of Schitt's Creek (2015) also presented the best directing awarded to Hacks (2021). Everyone else in the Schitt's Creek (2015) cast was allowed to read what was on the teleprompter except Eugene Levy. Catherine O'Hara then gave the job of announcing the winner of the category which was Lucia Aniello for Hacks (2021).
The Handmaid's Tale (2017) was nominated for 21 awards but did not win any, setting a new record for the largest "shutout" in Emmys history. This broke the previous record set by Mad Men (2007) in 2012, which did not win any of its 17 nominations that year.
The Crown (2016) became the first show to sweep the major drama categories. It also became just the third show to complete a sweep of the major categories, following Angels in America (2003) as a limited series in 2004 and Schitt's Creek (2015) as a comedy in 2020.
