When Will Smith Began Filming This Blockbuster Sequel With An Unfinished Script: “The Decision Sony Made Was…”
Image
Which Movie Did Will Smith Begin Filming Without A Finished Script?(Photo Credit –Instagram)

Back in 2012, Men in Black 3 kicked off production without a finished script, and somehow, it still turned out to be one of Will Smith’s biggest hits. Risky move? Absolutely. However, Smith and director Barry Sonnenfeld believed the studio’s bold play had merit.

In fact, Sonnenfeld stood by the chaos, saying (via Newsweek), “Starting the movie without an absolutely finished script is not normally the right way to do movies. But I feel the decision Sony made was the right decision. On this one, we might still be waiting for the script. Sometimes, if you just dip your toe in, you’ll never dive in because it’s too stupidly cold.”

That icy plunge didn’t stop Men in Black 3 from pulling in a cool $624 million worldwide. Sure, it didn’t match the pop-culture explosion of the 1997 original,...

Gerard Butler's Plane Sequel Gets Mixed Update From Star
Image
Ship, the announced sequel to the Gerard Butler-starring Plane, gets a new update from star Mike Colter. Released in 2023 and directed by Jean-François Richet, Plane stars Butler as Brodie Torrance, an airline pilot and former Raf officer who teams up with Colter's Louis Gaspare to rescue his passengers after being forced to land in a war zone. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it was announced shortly after the film's release that a sequel called Ship was in the works. Few updates on the project have emerged since, however.

Now, during a panel at Indiana Comic Con hosted by Collider, Colter shares an update on the status of the Plane sequel. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like there's been much movement on Ship just yet, with Colter blaming the delay on the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023, which began only months after Ship's announcement. According to Colter,...

The Men in Black franchise has been a defining force in sci-fi action-comedy since its inception in 1997. "The rumour whispers going around is that [Josh Brolin] is still in talks for something big in the Dcu, Josh and DC have the biggest opportunity to do the funniest thing," BossLogic captioned the post on X and Instagram. 'I Spent 22 Years Just Trying to Work': The Goonies Star Recalls Lengthy Career Lull After Breakout Role

Josh Brolin reflected on a charmed career marked by many disappointments. He revealed how his successful debut in The Goonies was followed by a long, lackluster string of films and TV shows.

Josh Brolin confirmed The Goonies definitely launched his career, but he didn't get the roles he hoped for after that. He admitted not caring for subsequent offers, as he just took them on the spot. "I was lucky enough after 300 auditions or whatever to get The Goonies, it just happened, for whatever reasons that happened," he told Graham Bensinger. "And then you experienced this incredible thing that's now become even more incredible, but afterwards it wasn't that. I'm sure I got thrashing based on The Goonies and then after that it just kind of went downhill."

Josh Brolins 12-Year-Old Sci-Fi Movie With 67% On Rotten Tomatoes Was The Beginning Of A Surprising Career Trend
Image
Josh Brolins 12-year-old sci-fi movie, Men in Black 3, has a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, but was the beginning of a surprising career trend for the actor. Since his movie debut in The Goonies in 1985, Josh Brolin has starred in many films over the years across numerous different genres. In 2012, Josh Brolin landed a lead role in Men in Black 3, playing a younger version of Agent K. Men in Black 3 marked the last of the original trilogy of movies, and Josh Brolin was highly praised for his portrayal of the famous Tommy Lee Jones character.

While the Men in Black franchise was memorable for its sci-fi adventures starring Will Smiths Agent J, the third installment achieved a rather weak Rotten Tomatoes score considering it was one of the most expensive movies of all time. The time travel in the sci-fi movie may have been a factor in this rating, as...

Brothers Review: Josh Brolin & Peter Dinklage's Inferior Twins Riff Is Frustratingly Dull
Image
It should be impossible to look at Brothers and not make a parallel with Ivan Reitman's Twins (1988), because of the differences between its lead actors, Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin. But there are far more similarities than that: there's criminality, a debt-chasing villain, sharp flashes of violence, and a road trip to reconnect with an absent mother. There's also the actual difference between the brothers: who they are inside.

The subtlety of Reitman's Twins was not in mining the comedy potential of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito's physical appearances as much as their different backgrounds. Mercifully, Brothers follows a similar trend, avoiding making cheap jokes to explore the sensibility clash between the delightfully named Jady (Dinklage) and Moke (Brolin). That shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone who saw Barbakow's Palm Springs (itself incessantly likened to Groundhog Day).

Men In Black's Director Had To Stop Tommy Lee Jones From Trying To Be Funny In The Movie
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The 1997 science-fiction comedy "Men in Black" is something of a miracle, a hilarious family film that manages to appeal to almost everyone. It was also a bit of a challenge to make, and not just because the filmmakers had to figure out how to bring the movie's aliens to life. Originally the studio wanted Chris O'Donnell, not Will Smith, for the role of Agent J, and it was director Barry Sonnenfeld's wife who came up with the idea for Smith to star. Smith wasn't so keen, however, and executive producer Steven Spielberg sent a helicopter to get him. Once Smith was set, the next big problem was that his co-star, the Academy Award-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones, could apparently be a bit of a challenge to work with.

Men In Black 3 Almost Cast A Different Actor As Young Tommy Lee Jones Instead Of Josh Brolin
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Back in 2020, director Barry Sonnenfeld joined the CinemaBlend podcast to talk about his career and mentioned the great lengths Josh Brolin went to perfectly embody young Tommy Lee Jones as Agent K in "Men in Black III" (our review here). He noted that Brolin carried a tape recorder of the first "Men in Black" film and that whenever the actor was on set, he was constantly trying to replicate Jones' lilt. "Tommy has the most musical voice. It's a beautiful voice. It really flows and ebbs, it's really sing-songy," Sonnenfeld noted. "And Brolin did a fantastic job. He made me cry so many times watching him." Hilariously, Jones actually questioned Sonnenfeld about Brolin's "Texas accent" by claiming he doesn't have one, and the director had to break it to him that, "Well, actually Tommy, you do."

Chris Rock is Lucky He Didn’t Face Will Smith’s Worst Attack That Men in Black Director Revealed: ‘You don’t even want to be sitting next to him’

Sure, laughter is the best medicine, but who knew it could also lead to mass evacuations? We’ve all had our moments, but not many can claim to have ignited a three-hour-long exodus with a single fart.

In a recent episode of Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld, 71, spilled the beans on an uproarious incident that might just take the cake for the most memorable moment on set. And just when you thought his most talked-about moment was ‘the slap’ heard around the world at the 2022 Oscars, Sonnenfeld blew the lid off another indelible Smith moment.

Men in Black director says Will Smith’s farts forced them to evacuate the stage for three hours
Image
Everybody farts. That’s just a fact. Some do it more than others, but I don’t know how many people can cause an actual evacuation with one. While speaking on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld revealed that Will Smith once caused a three-hour-long evacuation with one of his farts on the set of the 1997 movie. That’s… impressive?

Barry Sonnenfeld said that the fart in question occurred during a scene in which Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were “hermetically sealed” in a pod used for filming the transforming car. “There are locks to prevent it from opening and falling,” Sonnenfeld said. “I say, ‘Roll camera.’ And I hear Will Smith go, ‘Oh Jesus, so sorry. Tommy, so sorry. Baz, get the ladder.’ And you hear Tommy saying, ‘That’s fine, Will. No worries, Will. Don’t worry,...

‘Men in Black’ Director Says ‘Will Smith Is a Farter’: One Fart Was So Bad ‘We Evacuated the Stage for About Three Hours. And That’s Incredible’
Image
“Men in Black” director Barry Sonnenfeld appeared on the “Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa” podcast and revealed the set of the 1997 action comedy once had to be evacuated “for about three hours” because Will Smith farted. Smith starred opposite Tommy Lee Jones in “Men in Black,” which grossed $584 million worldwide to become the third-highest-grossing movie of 1997. Combined with the blockbuster success of “Independence Day,” the movie turned Smith into a global superstar.

According to Sonnenfeld, the incident occurred during the scene in which Smith and Jones are in a transforming car that travels at hyper speeds and flips over. In order to film the sequence, the two actors had to be “hermetically sealed” in the pod that was being used for the car.

“There are locks to prevent it from opening and falling,” Sonnenfeld said. “I say, ‘Roll camera.’ And I hear Will Smith go, ‘Oh Jesus,...

Steve Carrell’ 24% Rated Movie is One of the Biggest Box-Office Bombs That The Office Star Would Like to Erase from Existence

Steve Carrell is best known for his turn as Michael Scott in the NBC sitcom The Office. The Golden Globe award-winning actor has also starred in a string of commercially successful comedy movies. However, despite Carrell’s comedic chops, the actor could not save one of his most expensive comedy movies from flopping hard at the box office.

In 2007, Carrell starred in the 2007 fantasy comedy film Evan Almighty, a sequel to the commercially successful 2003 comedy Bruce Almighty. Steve Carell Starred In The Most Expensive Comedy Movie Ever Made And It Bombed At The Box Office
Image
The Steve Carell movie Evan Almighty was at one time the most expensive comedy movie ever, in addition to being an enormous box office bomb. The 2007 movie was a sequel to 2003's Bruce Almighty, which starred Jim Carrey in the title role. The follow-up, which featured an ensemble cast that included Morgan Freeman, Lauren Graham, John Goodman, John Michael Higgins, Jimmy Bennett, and Wanda Sykes, focused on the story of a previously minor Bruce Almighty supporting character named Evan Baxter who was played by Carell, who had since risen to fame playing Michael Scott on the sitcom The Office.

In addition to being a television star, Carell would go on to be a major movie star. One of his best-known roles is voicing the reformed supervillain Gru in the Despicable Me movies, but he has held many major roles outside of the animated franchise in both comedies and dramas. This...

The original movie saw Smith as an inexperienced rookie working alongside Jones' gruff veteran. It would go on to earn $590 million at the box office on a budget of just $90 million. The franchise has boasted sustained success, but Men in Black 5 has not been confirmed, though Sony is reportedly developing the blockbuster follow-up.

In a concept trailer developed by YouTuber Kh Studio with the help of AI, the two agents reunite as Agent K steps out of retirement. With an alien threat coming to wage war against humanity, the stars are asked to reunite to save the world. The story would take place a decade after Men in Black 3 and would see F. Gary Gray...

“Helena and I made our peace”: Harry Potter Star Forgave Helena Bonham Carter For Having an Affair With Her Husband and Ruining Their Marriage

Helena Bonham Carter is a name synonymous with eccentricity, bold outfits, and a penchant for quirky roles. But her personal life, too, has been no less dramatic, filled with its own twists and turns. One particularly colorful chapter began in 1994 when she became romantically involved with Kenneth Branagh on the set of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Nolan’s Inception Had Brad Pitt And Will Smith As First Choices And Not Leonardo DiCaprio, “Stars Like Smith And Pitt Are Used To…”
Image
DiCaprio was not Nolan’s first choice for Inception ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

As Dom Cobb, the expert thief who steals secrets by navigating the subconscious, Brad Pitt and Will Smith were first in line for the part.

Brad Pitt was first approached by Nolan when he was looking for his big break. However, Nolan requested that Pitt make a decision within 48 hours in a pretty abrupt and intense approach. It’s unclear if Pitt’s delay resulted from lack of interest or was only a timing problem. Either way, Nolan looked at Will Smith right away. However, Smith took a hiatus from acting after Seven Pounds, and he didn’t appear on screen again until 2012’s Men in Black 3.

At times, the casting of A-list performers can be a challenging endeavor. Directors like Nolan have taken on a vital role in Hollywood as studios close and power relationships change.

Josh Brolin: Net Worth, Age, Height & Everything You Need To Know About The Actor
Image
Josh Brolin's net worth of $45 million was built through strategic career choices and perseverance over the past 15 years. Despite receiving little pay for his role in No Country for Old Men, Brolin's career took off after starring in American Gangster. Brolin's portrayal of complex characters, such as Thanos in the MCU, showcases his Aquarian spirit of creativity and progressive thinking.

Josh Brolin has been acting for almost 40 years, and thanks to his roles in both critically acclaimed films and mega-hit blockbusters, he's amassed a considerable net worth. Brolin's first movie role was in the 1985 classic The Goonies as Brand, older brother to Mikey (Sean Astin). While Brolin continued to act steadily throughout the '80s and '90s, he wasn't fully recognized for his talents until he starred in the Coen brothers' Best Picture-winning No Country for Old Men as Llewelyn Moss. From there, Brolin's career exploded, and...

Alice Eve: Star Treks Controversial Carol Marcus Actress Explained
Image
Alice Eve's Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness reimagines the Prime Timeline character with a twist. Dr. Carol Marcus is portrayed as a weapons scientist with an interest in experimental photon torpedoes. Controversy surrounds Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness due to her hypersexualized portrayal.

In Star Trek Into Darkness, English actress Alice Eve plays a controversial version of Dr. Carol Marcus in the Kelvin Timeline of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies. Star Trek Into Darkness' Dr. Carol Marcus is a Starfleet physicist who specializes in weaponry, and a potential love interest for Chris Pine's Captain James T. Kirk. To hide the connection between herself and Admiral Alexander Marcus (Peter Weller), who released Khan Noonien Singh (Benedict Cumberbatch) from stasis, Alice Eve's Carol Marcus goes by Carol Wallace when boarding the USS Enterprise.

I Am Legend 2 Could Be A Career First For Will Smith Thanks To Michael B. Jordan
Image
I Am Legend 2 will see Michael B. Jordan join Will Smith, potentially setting him up to replace Smith as the franchise lead. Will Smith has never introduced a new franchise lead before, making I Am Legend 2 a potential career first for him. The sequel could see Smith's character, Robert Neville, sacrifice himself to pave the way for Jordan to take the lead role.

Will Smith has had a long and successful career as an A-list movie star, and the upcoming sequel I Am Legend 2 could break new ground in his career thanks to the inclusion of Michael B. Jordan. While I Am Legend 2 has been confirmed, there aren't many details yet about what direction it will take. It's known that the alternate ending from I Am Legend, which is far more consistent with the original Richard Matheson novel's ending, will provide the direction for the sequel.

“I didn’t want to show black people in that light”: Will Smith Shot Himself in the Foot by Refusing the Ultimate Quentin Tarantino Movie That Became an Oscars Darling

Django Unchained was a huge hit with audiences, having won Oscars in two categories, including Best Director. There were many positive reviews at the time of its release, and one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s most iconic scenes, which people still talk about it, comes from this very production.

Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness (Sony Pictures)

However, the lead role wasn’t originally meant for Jamie Foxx. In fact, Tarantino had offered it to another very famous actor within the Hollywood industry, who only turned it down for some personal reasons. Little did he know that the movie was bound for success. Does he regret his decision?

A new entry in the Men in Black franchise might be coming sooner rather than later, as its been revealed that an untitled sequel will apparently begin shooting in January 2025. Though no official announcement has been made by Sony regarding the project, its enough to speculate that the long-running franchise is looking to make up for the critically panned Men in Black: International which was released in 2019, and left a sour taste in the mouths of many. What Happened to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome?
Image
Nailing the final entry of a classic cinematic trilogy is always the most difficult to get right. Tasked with sticking the landing and tying the narrative strands across three movies together requires a precise amount of pre-planning that must be executed in ways that both trump its predecessors and satisfy fans at once with a compelling conclusion. Every once in a while, we get perfect trilogy-enders like The Good, the Bad and The Ugly, The Return of the King, or The Last Crusade. But more often than not, we get limp and lackluster results like The Godfather Part III, Jaws 3D, Terminator: Rise of the Machines, Alien 3, Back to the Future 3, Men in Black III, and countless other movies that fail to live up to the first two instalments. That begs the question, where does Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome register on the scale of all-time good or bad final chapters in movie trilogies?...

Bad Boys for Life had a China in August 2020 in the throes of Covid grossing only $3.2M. However, other Smith movies fared pretty darn well over there pre-Covid, i.e. 2012’s Men in Black 3 did $77.2M unadjusted for inflation and 2019’s Aladdin did $53.4M in the Middle Kingdom. Bad Boys for Life opened to $62.5M ($73M 4-day) stateside over MLK weekend 2020 before anyone knew a pandemic would shut down the business entirely for a year. The threequel went on to make $206.3M domestic, $426.5M WW.
