The village Tekra lies in the Thar desert, between the militarized zone near the Pakistani border and India's nuclear testing zone. Some Indian students from a bigger town and two American students went to Tekra as volunteers to instruct local children in English and computer sciences for one month. Children, who have never seen a computer before and who will probably never speak English after this few weeks, were motivated for learning. Most of them was only curious and got a lot of experiences, like the feeling the importance of learning for the first time or to see different role models. Volunteers, who experienced the village life of restricted possibilities, who were exposed themselves to caste problems and to problems like poverty, health issues and malnutrition. The Indian students experienced a kind of cultural shock in their own country, in their own state. It was not only a trip geographically, but in depth of human conditions as well, being involved in a project between tradition and technology, wanting to change - and being changed.
The viewer can get to know the everyday life of the children of a North-Indian village through the eyes of authentic intermediators. A unique experience.
