    • Trivia
Originally, this was supposed to be Leonard Nimoy's final acting role before retiring. However, he liked playing Master Xehanort and being part of the series so much he wanted to continue voice acting, of which he does not consider "acting" or "work". Unfortunately, he only got to reprise his role once for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (2012) before his death in 2015.
    • Goofs
In Kingdom Hearts 2, Goofy tells Sora that King Mickey banished Pete to another dimension for his mischief. In this game, we see that it was actually Queen Minnie who ordered Pete's banishment.
    • Quotes

[Master Xehanort kills Master Eraqus in front of Terra's eyes]

      Terra: Master Eraqus...

Master Xehanort: What a sight. Why do you trouble yourself with remorse, Master Terra? The man was bent on doing harm to your friend, his own pupil.

      Terra: Master Xehanort... why?

Master Xehanort: You know, at times I find your progress quite striking, but you still fall short. Let all that anger out, my boy. Give your heart over to darkness.

Terra: [Brandishes his Keyblade] What do you mean?

Master Xehanort: Still so blind? Then I will make you see. Come to the place where all Keyblade Wielders leave their mark on fate: The Keyblade Graveyard! There, you will watch your dear Ventus and Aqua meet their ends, and the last light within you will die!

[Master Xehanort summons an orb of darkness which shrouds the Land of Departure completely]

Master Xehanort: You won't need a home anymore where you're going.

      Terra: What? Xehanort!

[Master Xehanort enters a Corridor of Darkness and disappears before Terra can follow him. Terra watches with shock and regret as his homeland crumbles apart before him, and pulls his Wayfinder out]

Terra: Ven... Aqua... I won't let him hurt you.

      [Leaves the Land of Departure]

    • Alternate versions
In early 2011 a Final Mix version of this game was released exclusively in Japan similar to previous Final Mix releases for Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II. This version would incorporate the features used in the International versions of Birth by Sleep and add in several new features such as new bosses, the addition of Critical Difficulty Mode (last seen in KHII Final Mix), a new Secret Episode, and several other tweaks.
