Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

How ‘Miss Austen’ Draws Fine Art from an Act of Real-Life Cultural Vandalism
Image
Beating Netflix’s (entirely unnecessary) remake of “Pride and Prejudice,” the BBC’s spinoff “The Other Bennet Sister” and French rom-com “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life” to the proverbial punch, the 250th birthday celebrations of arguably Britain’s most cherished novelist begins with a four-part drama focusing on her elder sister.

For many literary scholars, Cassandra Austen is a villainess of Miss Norris-esque proportions. After all, her deliberate burning of her sibling’s vast personal correspondence — only 160 of her approximately 3,000 letters are still intact — largely thwarted any attempt to further understand the famously elusive author. However, “Miss Austen,” itself based on Gill Hornby’s same-named piece of historical fiction, does its best to exonerate her reputation as a cultural vandal.

The BBC original certainly comes with an impressive period drama pedigree. Director Aisling Walsh won a BAFTA for her post-war miniseries “Room at the Top,” while leading lady Keeley Hawes...

Netflix snuck in 12 more fantastic movies to begin March
Image
The fine folks of Netflix can be sneaky little devils sometimes. Case in point: even though it wasn't announced with their regular slate of releases, Venom: The Last Dance made its bow on the streamer on February 25th. They decided to really up their stealth release game with a dozen more titles on Saturday. That's in addition to the 12 already on the slate.

This turned what was already a strong debut slate into an outstanding group. You'll find iconic comedies with some of the most popular stars of Hollywood, a trio of classic romances, and some knife-edge thrillers. There's drama and action, too.

There's also a pair of underrated horror flicks ready for your screen. Best of all is the addition of the finest films from one the most influential directors of the past 40 years. Like all art forms, film is subjective. But rest assured, I'm not talking about Uwe Boll...

The Best Pride & Prejudice Adaptation, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Image
It's time to talk about Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," one of the most enduring novels in English literature. It is a tale so timeless that countless adaptations — both official and not-so-official — have been made, approaching the source material from all sorts of perspectives. Apart from inspiring cinematic adaptations, Austen's novel has also led to a world of associated stories, including Janet Aylmer's bestselling "Darcy's Story" and the more recent "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," which blends period drama with ultra-violent zombie-horror tropes.

Due to the sheer breadth of adaptations, discerning which one is the "best" can certainly be tricky. For starters there's the mix of faithful adaptations versus those loosely inspired by the 1813 novel, such as the Bollywood-style "Bride & Prejudice" or the Emmy-winning "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries." For the sake of simplicity, let's stick to straightforward adaptations, which firmly situate themselves within the novel's text and...

12 Movies Like Pride & Prejudice You Need To Watch Next
Image
"Pride and Prejudice" is the kind of novel that feels modern no matter when it's read, but Jane Austen herself died in 1817, more than 70 years removed from the invention of motion pictures. In other words, she probably could never have imagined that, hundreds of years in the future, there would be so many recorded dramatic adaptations of her most celebrated work -- nor that one of them, 2005's "Pride & Prejudice," would be able to capture its spirit so brilliantly as to renew passion for the story of Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) and Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) for a whole generation.

Arguably the best Jane Austen adaptation, that Deborah Moggach-scripted, Joe Wright-directed take on the novel was so perfect -- so impeccably attentive to the sharp social observation, the warm family dynamic, the richness of local and temporal texture, and the soul-stirring romanticism of the source material --...

How Young Werther Star Douglas Booth Turned 18th Century Emo Kid Into A Romantic Antihero Straight Out Of 2024
Image
A literary classic gets a 21st-century coat of paint with Young Werther, based on the 1774 novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther. The film loosely follows the plot of the book, but has been updated to reflect 2024 sensibilities. Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) stars as the title character, an aristocratic young fop who falls in love with a young woman. The only problem is that she's already engaged to be married to a pretty great guy. Thus, Werther embarks on a quest to win his beloved's heart, whether she's interested or not.

While an inherently unlikable figure on a less-than-righteous mission, Young Werther is nonetheless an endearing story thanks to the script by writer-director José Lourenço and a winning performance by Booth, who imbues the character with an old-timey charm, quick wit, and good-natured harmlessness, even when trying to steal a woman from her fiancé.

Script for Star Trek: Origins is reportedly done and on its way to a greenlight
Image
The script for Star Trek: Origins, which is not the official name for the movie, written by Seth Grahame-Smith [pictured above], author of the New York Times Bestselling novels, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, reportedly has been finished and is now on its way to an approval. [via Trekmovie] As previously reported, this could mean the movie will begin filming next year and be ready for a release to the big screen in 2026.

At the helm of the movie is Toby Haynes who directed Black Mirror's U.S.S. Callister. That particular episode was written by the series creators Charlie Brooke and William Bridges, who is a Star Trek fan, and was as close to a Star Trek episode as Haynes has gotten. Supposedly, there will be a sequel to this episode in the seventh season of Black Mirror, which Variety confirmed is still happening. It's unknown whether...

Doctor Who is voted Matt Smith's best performance...by a landslide!
Image
Matt Smith may currently be well-known for his portrayal of Daemon Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, but viewers will forever see him as synonymous with his portrayal of the Doctor on Doctor Who.

Smith portrayed the Eleventh Doctor for three seasons, making just shy of 50 episodes. Alongside David Tennant, his seasons are widely regarded as the golden age of the 'New Who' era of the franchise. Fans are always campaigning for his triumphant return, although Smith himself isn't too interested in reprising his beloved role just yet.

Of course, Smith would go on to grow his illustrious filmography. Notably, he played the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, in Netflix's The Crown. Other big roles include Last Night in Soho and a Marvel debut in Morbius. However, outside of Doctor Who, his biggest role by far is playing Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

10 Great Zombie Books To Read For Horror Fans
Image
A wide range of supernatural creatures crop up in horror books, and zombies make especially terrifying villains to read about. This is partly because they start out as humans, meaning just about anyone can turn during a zombie apocalypse. This truth forces readers to face their own mortality, as well as the harsh reality that even loved ones can become monsters.

With such grim messaging, it's no wonder zombie narratives are so popular within the horror genre. Some of the most terrifying horror books out there center on the undead. There are also plenty of great stories that put more unique twists on this common concept.

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies (2009) Written By Seth Grahame-Smith

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a fun take on the zombie subgenre, especially for those passionate about classic literature and more specifically, Jane Austen. Seth Grahame-Smith's 2009 book stretches the original story of Pride and Prejudice,...

A fan-favorite and iconic Jane Austen adaptation might be coming to Netflix
Image
One of the all-time best Jane Austen books may be getting a new version on Netflix! Over 200 years after her death, the author is as beloved as ever. Generations have grown up on her novels, which were ahead of their time, exploring issues of feminism, class, and some wonderful romances. In just six books, Austen made herself a literary icon who’s influenced countless writers since.

Not surprisingly, adaptations of Austen’s works have been plentiful. There have even been adaptations of her two posthumous novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion and her unfinished book Sanditon.

Trying to narrow down the best Austen works is difficult as many will cite Sense and Sensibility, which was adapted into a 1995 film directed by Ang Lee and starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, with Thompson also writing the script, earning her an Oscar. Yet, to many, the topper of Austen’s works is Pride and Prejudice.

Pride & Prejudice Spinoff Series From Doctor Who Producer In Development
Image
A new Pride and Prejudice spinoff show is now in development from Doctor Who producer Bad Wolf. Written by author Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice was released in 1813, following Elizabeth Bennet and her budding romance with Fitzwilliam Darcy. The iconic work of English literature has been adapted many times into movies and TV shows, including a 1995 film starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, and a 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen.

Variety now reveals that another Pride and Prejudice adaptation called The Other Bennet Sister is on the way from the BBC. The series, which is based on Janice Hadlows novel of the same name, will follow Marry Bennet, Elizabeth's sister and the oft-overlooked middle-sibling of the Bennet family. Check out the plot synopsis for The Other Bennet Sister below:

Unlike her sisters, Mary isnt your typical period drama heroine. She is awkward, anxious, preachy, full of facts, a...

10 Best Enemies To Lovers Fantasy Books Of All Time
Image
Enemies to lovers is one of the most popular young adult/new adult literary tropes of the modern age, with particular fantasy novels featuring enemies-to-lovers arcs emerging as the best. Books that perfectly blend romance and fantasy are among BookTok's favorite titles, typically featuring some stubborn and charismatic characters who give rise to the namesake's intense dynamic. At its core, enemies to lovers is about overcoming initial misunderstandings and prejudices to find a life-changing romance.

Readers also typically enjoy the mystery of an enemies-to-lovers story, with one or both characters having concealed motivations, giving the relationship a thrilling element. Most readers would also hate these fantasy book boyfriends in real life, demonstrating how the appeal of the trope lies in its fictionality. However, such romance novels are still among the BookTok books that deserve their hype when the charged emotions of hate and love are sometimes closely entwined essentially this book trope's bread and butter.

10 Major TV Show Stars I Wish Were In More Movies
Image
Some of my favorite TV show stars have not appeared in as many movies as I would like, largely due to the stratified filming schedules of the roles they are best known for. Some Hollywood movie actors have successfully switched to TV, and vice versa. However, the two modes of storytelling are drastically different and require different things from the actors, who need to be adept at conveying the character in limited screen time or drawing out an arc over possibly many years of TV.

Some great movie actors have never done TV when movies allow them to more easily sample a variety of genres and generally result in bigger cultural events. However, with epic fantasy and other genres blowing up in movies and TV in the past decade, there is more acknowledgment than ever of how the incredible talents of TV actors could transform movies. Based on their few...

‘Double Blind’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Millie Brady, Ashley Kumar, Abby Fitz, Shonagh Marie, Pollyanna McIntosh | Written by Darach McGarrigle | Directed by Ian Hunt-Duffy

In scientific terms, double blind refers to an experiment in which neither the subjects nor those in charge of the experiment know who is getting the drug and who is getting a placebo. The new Irish thriller Double Blind, not to be confused with another medical thriller of the same name, revolves around one such experiment, a first stage trial of a drug that might eliminate the need for sleep. And if that sounds familiar, it might be due to another recent Irish film, The Sleep Experiment, based off of the creepypasta The Russian Sleep Experiment. But while there are echoes of that here, the two tell their stories in very different ways.

Double Blind follows Claire, a broke young woman who volunteers for a clinical trial run by Blackwood Pharmaceuticals.

Ariana Greenblatt Joining Cast of ‘Now You See Me 3’
Image
Ariana Greenblatt, who appeared opposite Margot Robbie in last year’s Barbie, will be pulling a rabbit out of her hat.

The actress is joining the ensemble cast of Now You See Me 3, Lionsgate’s long-in-the-works installment of its heist caper thrillers.

Many of the original cast — Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco — are expected to return. The original movies also starred Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo, although it’s not clear if those two will return.

Ruben Fleischer is directing the movie, which garnered a mention last week at Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon.

Lionsgate had no comment on the casting, and it’s unclear who wrote the script. Seth Grahame-Smith, the genre scribe behind The Lego Batman Movie and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Eric Warren have penned drafts over the years.

The film once again delves into the world of the illusionists...

Star Trek’s 2025 origins movie: where the new film might boldly go
Image
Paramount is looking to get a new Star Trek film in cinemas in 2025 – but why this adventure, and where might things go? A few thoughts.

Another week, another Star Trek film announcement. So currently goes the online discourse for the seemingly endless array of Star Trek cinematic announcements we have experienced for almost ten years since the last big screen endeavour, Star Trek Beyond, in 2016.

As I in part chronicle in my book Lost Federations: The Unmade History of Star Trek, that decade has seen us face promises of movies including Chris Hemsworth returning as Captain James T Kirk’s legendary father in a time travel installment; Noah Hawley of Fargo fame penning a tale about a deadly virus (perhaps understandably shelved after a certain pandemic…); directors including Matt Shakman and Sj Clarkson coming and going; even Quentin Tarantino considering turning The Original Series gangster episode ‘A Piece of the Action’ into a movie event.

Box office preview: Horror-comedy ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ takes on the Super Bowl (Taylor’s Version)

It’s Super Bowl weekend with the San Francisco 49ers taking on the Kansas City Chiefs, with many tuning in just to see if Taylor Swift can make it to Las Vegas from her Saturday night concert in Tokyo. Plus, there’s exactly one new wide release. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.

It’s been a number of years since we’ve heard from Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody of “Juno” fame, but she’s written the new horror-comedy “Lisa Frankenstein,” which stars Kathryn Newton (“Big Little Lies”) as Lisa, a young woman who falls in love with a corpse, played by Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”), and decides to try to bring him back to life. Directed by Zelda Williams – the daughter of the late, great Robin Williams – the movie is fully targeted toward the younger female audiences that have made musicals like “Wonka” and “Mean Girls” decent-sized box office hits,...

Outlander: Blood of My Blood (2025)
Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1: Everything We Know So Far
Outlander: Blood of My Blood (2025)
The original Doughtlander may not be over, but Outlander: Blood of My Blood hopes to close the gap.

For sure, it will be taking over where Outlander leaves off, even if it explores a story long before Jamie and Claire were figments of their parents' imagination.

Here’s what we know bout Blood of My Blood Season 1 so far.

What is Outlander?

It’s best to start with what we know, which is what came before. Outlander is based on a series of books by author Diana Gabaldon.

Outlander is a time-traveling love story between 20th-century (married) nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser and 18th-century Jamie Fraser.

When visiting the ancestral home of her husband, Frank, Claire stumbles through the rocks at Craigh na Dun, which takes her back in time.

Unable to easily find her way back, the sassy lady leans on handsome laird Jamie for protection, and soon, they are in love.

Black Mirror And Andor Director Tapped To Helm New Star Trek Movie
Image
As reported in Deadline today, Paramount has officially announced that they are developing a new "Star Trek" feature film. It will be the first "Star Trek" movie since the release of "Star Trek Beyond" in 2016, but the fourteenth "Star Trek" film overall.

The new film will be directed by Toby Haynes, a prolific British television director who has helmed episodes of "M.I. High," "Doctor Who," and the British version of "Utopia." His most recent directing job was six episodes of the hit "Star Wars" series "Andor." Interestingly, he also directed the celebrated "Black Mirror" episode "USS Callister," which was a darkly humorous riff on "Star Trek" and science fiction fandom. He also directed the 2019 TV movie "Brexit: The Uncivil War" starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The new "Star Trek" film is slated to be written by Seth Grahame-Smith, the author of the books "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

New ‘Star Trek’ Movie Set Decades Before the Era of Kirk and Spock Set at Paramount
Image
“Star Trek” is about to explore a whole new era of its timeline. A new film in the universe Gene Roddenberry created, to be produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot for Paramount, and directed by “Andor” helmer Toby Haynes and written by “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” scribe Seth Grahame-Smith, is arriving at impulse power, if not warp.

The film will be set decades before the events of the 2009 “Star Trek” film Abrams directed, which explored a parallel timeline to the main “Star Trek” canon viewers have known and loved to show how Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) met for the first time. It’s unclear if it will actually be set in that timeline — known to Trekkies as the “Kelvin Timeline” — or in the main continuity. But apparently it will be an “origin” story, so it must be connected in some way to “Trek” storytelling that’s already known and loved.

‘Star Trek’ Origin Story Movie Set From ‘Andor’ Director, ‘Star Trek 4’ Still in the Works as ‘Final Chapter’ of Main Series
Image
A new “Star Trek” film is in the works at Paramount with “Andor’s” Toby Haynes on board to direct and Seth Grahame-Smith penning the script, Variety has confirmed.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the upcoming feature will be an origin story that is set decades before 2009’s “Star Trek,” as well as an expansion of the “Star Trek” universe. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing.

Meanwhile, the fourth installment of the rebooted “Star Trek” film series remains in development, with the studio describing it as the “final chapter.” In the third film, 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond,” the crew of the USS Enterprise crash-lands on a mysterious world after being attacked by the lizard-like dictator Krall (Idris Elba).

A fourth “Star Trek” movie starring Chris Pine was first announced in July of 2016, with Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg expected to return.

Shari Smiley, Former CAA Agent And Manager Dies At Age 53
Image
Longtime lit agent and manager Shari Smiley has died. Smiley passed away Tuesday at age 53. Cause of death is not yet known.

Smiley had a long career in book to movie circles, and most recently had restarted her Smiley Management banner. Before that she had been at 3 Arts, this after a four year stint at The Gotham Group. There, she sold the dramatic rights to several titles, notably In A Dark, Dark Wood, The Barbizon and An Anonymous Girl, all of which resulted in bidding wars. Smiley had also been a consultant for the executor of the J.R.R. Tolkien Estate.

Smiley spent the bulk of her career, 18 years worth, at CAA, where she began as a receptionist in 1993 and was soon selling more books there than some of the tenured agents. When she left that agency, she called legendary literary agent Mort Janklow to tell him, and Janklow...

Now You See Me 3's Reimagining Likely Means Losing The Franchise's Original Appeal
Image
Now You See Me 3's reimagined approach risks losing the franchise's primary appeal of intricate tricks and illusions. Director Ruben Fleischer, known for action-oriented movies like Venom and Zombieland, is taking over as director of the sequel. While Fleischer's history with successful franchises is promising, an action-heavy focus could deviate from the magic, misdirection, and mystery that fans of the franchise appreciate.

While the Now You See Me franchise has been quiet, Now You See Me 3's update about a reimagined approach could risk losing the series' original appeal. Now You See Me premiered in 2013, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. For Now You See Me 2 in 2016, all the aforementioned cast members apart from Fisher returned. Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Radcliffe, and others joined the lineup. Lionsgate has also teased the Now You See Me 3 director's "reimagined...

David O. Russell Almost Directed These Movies. Here's Why He Didn't
Image
Movie critics love David O. Russell. Aside from his latest big-screen flop in Amsterdam, film experts have been heaping praise on the 65-year-old director since the mid-1990s, with his most renowned movies being The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook, and American Hustle.

Despite his central role in a number of highly-publicized controversies over the years, the five-time Academy Award nominee continues to land major projects, as Russell recently tapped Sacha Baron Cohen and Keke Palmer for a movie about '70s toy sales reps called Super Toys and is reportedly recruiting Will Ferrell for the starring role in a biopic about legendary NFL coach and commentator John Madden.

Given his intensely-perfectionist approach to making movies and his reputation as a critical darling, Russell has been extremely selective about the sorts of projects he signs on to, particularly in recent years. This has led to Russell either passing on green-lit projects...

‘Red White & Royal Blue’ Cast and Character Guide: Who Plays Who? (Photos)
Image
Prime Video has released its “Red White & Royal Blue” film, based on Casey McQuiston’s novel, and viewers are in store for some great twists on romantic comedy tropes and foreign relations.

McQuiston’s novel follows Alex Claremont Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), son of the first woman to become president of the United States (Uma Thurman) as he butts heads with Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) constantly, which gets them both into trouble. The president sent her son to the royal wedding with only one operative: Do not cause a scene. But apparently, he caused a big enough commotion to take the cake — literally a large wedding cake toppled onto Alex and Henry after an altercation on the dance floor. Smoothing things over, at least in a famous fake friendship kind of way, the boys strike up an actual relationship, romantic and all.

Here’s who plays who in Prime...

The Flash: Every Release Date the Movie's Had and Why It’s Been Delayed So Much
Image
The Flash is one of the most iconic DC superheroes in existence. There have been multiple characters who have taken on the mantle of the Scarlet Speedster in the comics, and the character is synonymous in pop culture with the concept of super speed. With an easily recognizable character and with the popularity of superhero movies at its peak, it would seem like making The Flash movie would be incredibly easy, especially when Ezra Miller was first cast in 2014.

Yet despite the character being the fastest man alive, the road to the big screen has been a difficult one for The Flash. While the character appeared in Justice League, his solo film has seen multiple starts and stops over the years in the film's production cycle, with a popular TV version of The Flash airing on The CW through premiere and concluding before the film even came out. Despite a sluggish journey to the screen,...

Gillian Anderson Joins Kurt Sutter Western Series ‘The Abandons’ at Netflix
Gillian Anderson
Gillian Anderson has been cast in Netflix’s Western drama series “The Abandons” from creator Kurt Sutter.

Anderson will play Constance, the matriarch of the wealthy Van Ness family who doubled the mining fortune she inherited from her husband. Her wealth, charm and power allowed her to forge relationships with political allies despite their town’s patriarchal bias.

The official Netflix logline for the show reads, “As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back. In this bloody process, ‘justice’ is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law. ‘The Abandons’ will explore that fine line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets,...

R.L. Stine Horror Series “Just Beyond” Is Being Deleted from Disney+ This Month
Image
For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.

Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.

As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”

The long list of titles being removed from Disney+ includes…

'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' Is the Best Horror Remake of a Classic Story
Image
Last year, a trailer for the Winnie the Pooh horror film Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey went viral and ended up granting the film a legitimate theatrical release. The low-budget film reimagines Christopher Robin as an older man returning to his childhood home, only to discover that his favorite talking bear has become a gruesome killer. It has started a new wave of horror films inspired by children’s literature, including The Mean One (inspired by The Grinch), Bambi, and Peter Pan. Now that these characters are in the public domain, filmmakers and studios are free to reimagine the characters in any which way they choose. However, this trend was already perfected recently in the 2016 horror film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
The Stephen King Movies That Never Got Made
Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
There is perhaps no writer whose work has been adapted more to screens both big and small than renowned author Stephen King.

Literally dozens of King’s novels, novellas, and short stories have been made into theatrical motion pictures, limited TV series, or streaming movies, ranging from classics like Carrie, The Shining, The Dead Zone, and The Shawshank Redemption to more recent milestones like It and The Outsider. Some, like ‘Salem’s Lot, The Stand, The Shining, and It, have been adapted more than once.

Along the way, there have also been many King adaptations that never actually made it to the screen, or made it in vastly different form than originally intended. For some of these, there were well-known directors and screenwriters who had a vision for the material, but who ended up departing the property as it stalled out, or after that vision got watered down, changed, or scrapped completely.
