I thought the show just took place during summertime. But the revelation that he never went to school at is...bad parenting.
I now have a low opinion of his father. Thanks for that.
So Steven is depressed but he does not know why. He says he never went to school and never got to mingle with regular kids. I have an idea. GO TO SCHOOL.
He also asks Connie to fuse with him. Steven apparently thinks that fusing is greater than or equal to marriage, relationships, and sex. But he is only 16..? And Connie is....umm...18? She must be if she is going to college. And not a single person tries to explain to him the differences between having a relationship and becoming one with someone. One requires work.
So yeah...this future series is not bad, but ultimately goes nowhere. Steven is depressed on like episode 5 and continues to be depressed all the way until the end. Steven is so powerful, but so stupid, or naieve.
I did find it funny that Steven never put together that the blonde girl is gay with Chet, who is defintiely a girl. But also this lets us know he is not mature enough to move out on his own
So does Steven want to go to school and be with connie and learn how to be a human being? No...he just wants to become a hippie like his dad...Again because his dad gives bad advice and is apparently lazy and not the greatest role model.

Bing watched the original series and loved it. Watched this one for 5 episodes and just lost interest. I heard it gets weird in cringy as the series goes on but I didn't make it that far. I was interested to see the characters continue to develop and exploring that universe, but instead all the interesting stuff and character changes were off screen and the message seemed to be "things just randomly change that's what growing up is".
First, watch the series Steven Universe (2013-2019), and Steven Universe: The Movie (2019) to understand the events in this show. Steven Universe Future (2019-2020) is as good as the first series and the movie, now it focuses on a lot of serious matters with Steven and his problems with his powers because of earlier events.
Steven goes through a lot in this series involving his problems, powers, and his need to help everyone else then himself. The new powers he gains are cool, but you learn that it takes control of him, and he gets carried away with them, while also trying to keep things the way they are without changing anything. Each episode makes you feel for him, especially in the last two episodes.
I still like the Crystal Gems Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst, but I also like the other gems like Lapis Lazuli, Peridot, and Bismuth. There will occasionally be another gem who returned from the first series to be an antagonist that Steven must deal with in one episode. But most of the series is Steven coming to grips with himself, his powers, and the problems with himself he keeps trying to bury deep inside himself while trying other people or other gems.
The animation is once again fantastic, and the visuals are pretty. The action scenes are fun and can be serious for the subject the episode is focusing on, especially when an episode ends with something serious, and it carries over to the next episode. You also learn more about certain gem locations when the characters go to them, and the things that happened to the gems in the past when they show up with something wrong happening to them.
The show's last two episodes will make you cry, especially the last episode. Steven Universe Future (2019-2020) was such a great ending to Steven Universe, and it will make you want to rewatch the first series Steven Universe (2013-2019), Steven Universe: The Movie (2019), and this series once you finish it because of how great it was to watch all twenty episodes.

I thought perhaps this would not be needed, we had a resolution already. But I think this added a lot. It wrapped it up and put everyone on a path. Steven has to get through some stuff yet.
Beautiful music, animation, writing and stuff like the original show. I loved all the cameos from the first show.
You should definitely watch this after you've seen the other show and the movie.
Great for anyone of any age. I loved every second. I wanted more but at the same time I felt it was sufficient. They don't need more. I might go start over with the original show from episode one now.
I think a spin off show about Lars and his crew could be interesting if they wanted to do more.

The original series had an undeniable charm. However, the new iteration left me often groaning over plot and dialogue choices. Young Steven somehow seems more mature than future Steven who unexplainably lost the ability to communicate his feelings or handle his emotions.
This tends to be the basis for most of the problems in each episode, which is at odds with the attempt to set an older tone, and address more mature issues.
It's great to spend more time watching some beloved characters, but the previous show had a great formula where they would solve problems over the course of an episode or arc. Unfortunately for this show, the problem is Steven.
