The recent wave of live-action adaptations of popular series has caught up with many prominent anime and manga series like One Piece, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc. Fans are always hoping for their favorite anime and manga to get a live-action adaptation to experience their world more realistically.
Bleach Anime
However, Bleach fans might never be able to get this satisfaction. Bleach’s creator, Tite Kubo, once revealed that he doesn’t want Bleach to be adapted into a live-action series or movie because he drew the series specifically to be featured as a manga. He even went on to say that if Bleach’s live-action was possible, he wouldn’t have drawn the manga.
Despite this, Kubo’s magnum opus did receive a live-action adaptation movie in 2018, and it might not have been as successful as the One Piece live-action series, but it still got decent reception and reviews.

Leading Japanese TV producer Morii Akira and South Korea’s J.Q. Lee are joining forces to create an action-driven series built around a protagonist with special powers.
The pair are both currently riding high, developing or producing additional seasons for their recent hit shows. Morii is currently working on a third season of Netflix original, dystopian series “Alice in Borderland.” Lee is working on Season 2 of Korean hit “All of Us Are Dead.”
The untitled new series is pitched as “an action-packed spectacular drama, featuring a protagonist with unique abilities never before seen in movies or Japanese comics [and] promising an unprecedented viewing experience,” the pair said.
A long-form story arc is being completed before being fleshed out into episodic storylines. Shooting, production schedules and cast details will be announced in the future.
“We cannot disclose specific details at this time, but I can say that this project will feature an ingenious and unheard-of storyline.

The much-awaited return of the ghost detectives on the silver screen is finally available on Netflix, and the fans seem to love it. Based on the DC Comics characters of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, the Netflix series is created by Steve Yockey and it follows the story of two ghost detectives who decide not to ascent to their afterlives to stay on Earth and investigate the crimes involving the supernatural. Dead Boy Detectives exists in the same universe as Netflix’s hit DC fantasy drama series The Sandman, and while it is different from The Sandman in its story and visuals, the Dead Boy Detectives seem to be connecting with the fans. So, if you loved the charm and supernatural shenanigans in Dead Boy Detectives here are some similar shows you should check out next.

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you love delinquent characters in anime. From Yu Yu Hakusho to Tokyo Revengers , there’s something special about a kid from the wrong side of the tracks (or one who at least acts like they’re from the wrong side of the tracks) slowly revealing that they’re a complex human being with a heart of gold. And both of the above series are layered from the beginning with questions of morality and themes regarding what it takes to be a good or bad person. In that sense, the spring 2024 release Wind Breaker cuts out the middleman. We don’t have to figure out whether or not we want to love the rough n’ tumble main characters. Why? Because everyone else already does. Related: 10 Anime Delinquents Too Good to be Bad For those that haven’t seen it, please give it a shot.

Arguably mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi’s second-best work, Yu Yu Hakusho, was released in 1990. It was a supernatural/detective manga that revolved around a deceased protagonist who gained the ability to stay on the mortal plane in a ghostly form on the condition of assisting in various paranormal investigations. A year later, in 1991, prolific comic-book writer Neil Gaiman adapted a similar concept in his Sandman universe created for DC Comics, and by adding his signature gothic flair to provide a macabre spin to children’s detective stories, he introduced Dead Boy Detectives to the world. The grim yet hopeful nature of the stories perfectly complemented the overall tone of his Sandman universe, and even though the later runs of Dead Boy Detectives have gradually become more sporadic in nature, they remain one of DC’s more experimental, character-driven stories, which highlights the overall versatile nature of the comic franchise.

Rappers like Cochise prove that's not the case, making his love for anime known to anyone who listens to his music. The shonen genre in anime is one of the most popular, as a plethora of shows reach an insane level of popularity that is hard to match. However, this genre has a gem, which is Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter. Although the series has a faltering pace, Togashi-san’s manga remains one of the most popular manga series to be ever written.
Gon and Hisoka in the Hunter Exam arc
Both the manga and the anime are commercially successful, thanks to the series’ unorthodox style of narration and world development. However, the series would not have been so popular if it followed the original storyline that the artist had initially planned out in his mental map. Moreover, the series’ editor played a key role in changing the story of our adorable protagonist in the most important arc of the series.

Yoshihiro Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho is still considered to be one of the greatest shonen anime and manga series of all time. The anime series is something that many of us have grown up watching and it can be put into the same league as Sailor Moon and Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series. The Shonen series’ immense recognition and fan following, just demonstrates how influential and incredible the series was.

Yoshihiro Togashi is seen by many as one of the most influential manga artists ever. He created two very popular series, Hunter X Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho, which have had a big effect on manga.
Togashi has a special style that makes him different from other manga creators. As said by Jason Thompson, who is a critic for manga, Togashi’s first one-shot works were a mixture of comedy set in school and allusions to horror movies. This showed the flexibility and imaginative sight of Togashi.

The character in the discussion was Suzaku, the leader of the four saint beasts. His Prism of Seven technique laid the foundation for Naruto’s Shadow Clone Jutsu.

2004 – Mustaches
Let’s go back to the prank that started it all—mustaches! It was just a night of regular adult animated programming, but with mustaches drawn onto all the characters in every scene in every show. It is such a simplistic gag, yet it birthed the tradition.

Censoring Streamers
Malaysia’s Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has said that he plans to hold meetings with the Communications Ministry with a view to extending the remit of the country’s Film Censorship Board (Lpf) to video streamers. Currently, the Lpf has jurisdiction over theatrical releases, but not content carried on the internet.
Malaysia has been notable in demanding cuts – sometimes refused by rights holders – to imported and local films, especially where they touch on religion or homosexuality, even tangentially. Hollywood films “Thor” and “Lightyear” were both banned. Last year, local director Amanda Nell Eu denounced the censored cut of her prize-winning film “Tiger Stripes.”
Speaking in parliament, Saifuddin said “the Lpf will not approve the screening of any films that promote LGBTQ, communism, Islamophobia, and those conflicting Islamic beliefs.”

In the latest surge of live action adaptations that Netflix seems to lead, either in movie or series format, an essentially forgotten anime and manga from the 90s, was not exactly something that was expected, considering that the rest were based on all time favorites like “One Piece” and “Rurouni Kenshin” for example. It turns out, though, that the manga being one of the best selling of all times played a crucial role, and that is how we ended up with a version of “Yu Yu Hakusho”.

Katy O’Brian is about to be a big star — and for audiences who check out Rose Glass’ “Love Lies Bleeding,” in which the actress stars alongside Kristen Stewart in an audacious, sexy, unpredictable mash-up of body horror, crime thriller, and love story, that concept will prove to be literally true by the film’s wild end. But she’s not slipping into any Hollywood starlet habits just yet.
Case in point: O’Brian signed on to our Zoom interview a full five minutes early this week (practically unheard of!), and offered to spend our extra time “just chatting.” And O’Brian, whose pre-acting resumes includes everything from bodybuilding to a seven-year stint as a police officer in her native Indiana, is a very good conversationalist.

As the wave of live-action adaptations of famous anime and manga series has hit the entertainment industry, Netflix has been producing live-action series one after another with releases such as One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Almost every one of these has been a commercial success as they produced huge numbers.
A still from Avatar: The Last Airbender
The most latest Netflix live-action release featured the adaptation of the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series was initially doubted by the fans because of its history in the live-action genre, but Netflix managed to make a great series and it has been receiving a lot of love and appreciation from the fans of the original series.
The live-action adaptation series reenacts the events of the first animated series, following Aang as he battles Fire Lord Ozai by learning how to control all four elements.

After myriad failures, Netflix finally seems to have learned the formula to successfully translate anime and animated features into live action, as seen from their recent adaptations of classics like One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Alice in Borderland. The streaming conglomerate’s latest venture, the newly released adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, is another step in that positive direction, which, albeit not flawless, has the potential to carry forward the Avatar universe, spanning through various spin-offs and print media continuations.
One of the major factors that acts both as an advantage and a drawback in the case of such adaptations is the chance of tweaking the original structure while retelling a narrative, which is occasionally done to include hints for an upcoming storyline. In an attempt to do something similar, Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender has jam-packed its first season with a number of teases, including Easter eggs,...

As a fan of fighting games, Tekken 8 was pretty high on my video games of 2024 list. I’ve been playing the games since the very beginning, back when there were only eight characters until you unlocked the rest. Tekken has always been a unique franchise to me, from the ongoing Mishima family “let me grab my popcorn” mess to the fact that some of the lore is unapologetically bizarre. You’d think the multiple bear characters were a joke, but not only are they part of the ongoing story, they aren’t even the weirdest fighter you can pick — and I love every minute of it. Reacher began its second season with big viewing-time numbers, cementing its status as one of the most popular shows on Amazon’s Prime Video.
The series based on Lee Child’s novels had 1.69 billion minutes of watch time for the week of Dec. 11-17; season two’s first three episodes debuted Dec. 15 (viewing time for the week also includes the eight episodes of season one). That’s within 10 percent of Reacher’s total for its series premiere week (1.84 billion minutes) in February 2022, when Prime Video released the entire season at once. Season two is on a weekly release pattern after the opening three-episode salvo.
The 1.69 billion minutes for Reacher put the series in second place overall in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week. Netflix’s movie Leave the World Behind repeated as the overall No. 1 title, edging up to 1.95 billion minutes of viewing from 1.92 billion the previous week.

It won’t be wrong to call the year 2023 the year of live-action adaptations — think The Last of Us, Yu Yu Hakusho, One Piece, and Five Nights at Freddy’s, among others. However, One Piece, in particular, was not only a live-action adaptation that was difficult to put in motion for creators but it was almost impossible for audiences to imagine how the show would look prior to its trailers. Questions like — who will play Monkey D. Luffy? How will the showrunners present his elastic powers? How can they set up somebody to play Arlong? But surprisingly, it all...

The live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho is off to a strong start on Netflix. With only five episodes under its belt, there’s still more source material for the series to adapt. Netflix has yet to renew the series for a second season, but early signs suggest a renewal could soon be coming.
Yu Yu Hakusho is a Japanese Netflix Original supernatural action-adventure series and the live-action adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga series of the same name. Tatsuro Mishima (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead) adapted the story for television.
The series was led by Alice in Borderland producer Kazutaka Sakamoto. Akira Morii (Assassination Classroom) served as producer on the project, and Ryo Sakaguchi (Game of Thrones) is SFX’s supervisor. Netflix’s internal studio, Scanline VFX, worked on the visual effects. Yutaka Yamada (Vinland Saga) composed the series.

The live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho blasted onto Netflix with a huge reception, and with it, Netflix maintained its streak of not ruining live-action adaptations of manga and comics. For the uninitiated, the series follows the story of Yusuke Urameshi, who became a spirit detective after sacrificing himself to save a boy’s life. As a spirit detective, his duties included finding and stopping demons who disrupted the peace of the human world. However, as the show progressed, we came across two contrasting characters who once shared a special connection. Yes, we’re talking about Genkai and Toguro. One of them entrusted her power to the next generation, while the other sacrificed everything to become powerful.

Netflix’s latest gift to its loyal binge-watchers was the live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho, which followed the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a human who was resurrected as a spirit detective to stop evil Yokai from devastating the human world. The anime had no shortage of villains, with the likes of Elder and Younger Toguro, Goki, Bui, and many more. But none of them were more sinister and conniving than Sakyo. Unlike the other villains, Sakyo was a human, but with a sinister motive that posed a tremendous threat to the human world. Sakyo wanted to open a portal and see the end of humanity. If you still haven’t streamed Yu Yu Hakusho, do it now.

Yu Yu Hakusho chronicled the story of a high schooler, Yusuke Urameshi (Takumi Kitamura), who sacrificed his own life to save a child being run over by a speeding bus. For this selfless act, Koenma, the one in charge of sending people to hell and heaven, resurrected him and made him a protector of the human world, aka a spirit detective. As we reach Episode 2 of Yu Yu Hakusho, we are introduced to the concept of three Yokai objects that got swiped or, let’s say, borrowed in some cases for different reasons. These objects weren’t the everyday things you’d find at a pawn shop. If these objects were to fall into the wrong hands, they could bring devastation to the human world. In simple terms, they had the power to disrupt the balance of both the spirit and demon worlds. Since Yusuke has taken on the role of protecting the human world,...

I was told that Netflix had a tendency, or habit if you’d call it that, to ruin live-action anime adaptations, as seen with Death Note, Bleach, and others. However, after seeing One Piece, I thought that time had passed, and to be honest, this was the only reason I picked up Yu Yu Hakusho, but with a pinch of salt. The live-action adaptation of the highly successful manga didn’t disappoint. The series chronicles the story of one Yusuke Uremeshi (Takumi Kitamura), a high school student who, for his blunt attitude, always ends up in brawls, which he always won, by the way. Yusuke was the type of person who’d not even explain his stance, even if he was right. Why? He thinks it’s too much work. In one instance, he was mistaken for a bully stealing money from a student, but Yusuke didn’t even defend...

Film and television adaptations of stories from other media consistently face uphill battles. Even the most faithful of adaptations can ruffle the feathers of the source material’s die-hard fans or lead audiences to question the point of the adaptation in the first place. This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 part 1.
Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen has been a breakout hit ever since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2018. In only five years, Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga has sold more than 80 million copies and is currently the 27th-best-selling manga of all-time.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s anime adaptation has proven to be just as popular, with its first season winning several awards, ranking at the top of many lists, and even becoming 2021’s second most discussed TV show on Twitter, anime or otherwise. Not to be outdone, the anime’s first feature film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, is currently the ninth-highest-grossing Japanese movie ever made (beating the likes of Pokémon: The First Movie and Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke). Clearly, excitement for Akutami’s dark signature shonen series isn’t going anywhere. This popularity buys the anime a lot of goodwill and trust with its audience,...

Exclusive: Netflix has signed a five-year deal with Japanese screenwriter Yuji Sakamoto, winner of the Best Screenplay award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s competition title Monster.
Sakamoto has already scripted his first Netflix project, previously announced romantic murder mystery film In Love And Deep Water, set to be released later this year.
Netflix is now entering into a broader collaboration with Sakamoto through which he will develop a range of titles to premiere exclusively on the streamer’s platform worldwide.
Directed by Taki Yusuke, In Love And Deep Water takes place on board a luxury cruise ship where a devoted ship butler encounters a female passenger, who claims their respective partners are on the verge of cheating on them. Ryo Yoshizawa (Gintama franchise) and Aoi Miyazaki head the cast.
