According to Director Christopher Sun, the Hong Kong censorship board demanded cuts to the following scenes. The scene where Prince of Ning kills his concubine was longer. The censorship board thought it was too long. In the orgy scene, Wei Yangsheng, gets tired, and squeezes a woman's breast for some milk. The shots of breast milk on his body were removed.

The UK release was cut, compulsory cuts were required to two scenes of sexual and sexualised violence, which included elements with a tendency to eroticise and endorse sexual violence, in order to obtain an 18 classification. Cuts made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut classification was not available.

Despite the fact that Italy would give often give 'universal' certificates to not only child-friendly films, but films that are adult-oriented which would contain sex scenes, the film was heavily censored for a 'T' (film per tutti = film for everyone) certificate. The DVD version is uncut rated 'VM18' (vietato ai minori di 18 anni = forbidden to minors under the age of 18).
