If you're curious what went wrong on The Ring Two, you should definitely see Nakata's "A Foreign Filmmakers' Guide to Hollywood." Unfortunately, it's not available in the US but you can buy the DVD in Japan and then get someone to translate the Japanese parts for you. Some of the interviews are in English. Needless-to-say, it's all a fascinating and very revealing look at how Hollywood screws up films. Creative differences and meddling behind the scenes instead of respecting such an accomplished director are clear reasons you can see for why Nakata's US debut got screwed up. It's really a shame. This documentary should be seen in every film school as a cautionary tale: stay far away from Hollywood.
