Possessed actress talks “Exorcismus”
Debuting on U.S. DVD today from IFC Films and Mpi Media Group, Manuel Carballo’s Exorcismus (a.k.a. The Possession Of Emma Evans) is the latest variation on the time-honored terror trope—with an updated twist. Here, the focus is not on an innocent child but on emotionally troubled teenager Emma, whose conflicts with her parents only get worse when a demonic force infects her. Fango spoke to actress Sophie Vavasseur, who brought Emma and her torment to life on screen.

New poster for Spanish horror Excorcismus
New artwork has appeared for Manuel Carballo’s upcoming Spanish (but with English dialog) possession horror Exorcismus, and as last teaser poster made leading lady Sophie Vavasseur look more like the bride of Chucky, we’re liking this new one sheet a hell of lot better. The same can’t be said for its new U.S title which Bloody Disgusting has revealed will be the painfully generic and dull “The Possession of Emma Evans”…Yuck. Still in post, we’re tipping the movie will hit release in the autumn. See the poster larger, plus some stills from the movie, at the link.

New Teaser for Exorcismus
Filmax has prepared another teaser poster for Exorcismus , the English-language exorcism film (produced in Spain) directed by Manuel Carballo. Word is this is getting a title change to The Possession of Emma Evans for the U.S., but we haven't seen any proof of that yet. (Why Emma "Evans" and not "Hawkins" as she's called in the film?) Fifteen-year-old Emma Hawkins is like any other teenage girl; she thinks that her parents don.t understand her. She longs for independence and a life free of family ties and responsibilities and she is prepared to do anything to achieve it. But one day she will be forced to face up to the consequences of her actions. Life seems to be carrying on as normal, until one day Emma starts experiencing frightening fits. Her parents...

Horrible Title Change for 'Exorcismus'
Having your main operations running out of Spain doesn't help when you're coming up with a title for a movie, especially when it's basically the exact same thing as a forthcoming U.S. release. Filmax announced today that they'll be retitling Exorcismus to The Possession Of Emma Evans. If this title sticks, we'll be seeing both that and The Possession of David O'Reilly side by side on the sales rack come 2011. I expect another title change by whomever acquires the film for the States. Directed by Manuel Carballo, Filmax's Possession will explore the popular horror theme of exorcism, focusing on a young girl, Emma, whose erratic behaviour forces her family to bring in a priest to try and resolve the problem through hypnosis. The disturbing results are recorded on a secret camera. Tommy Bastow, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix, Douglas Bradley, Stephen Billington all star.

Be Compelled to Look at Exorcismus Art and Stills
Man, the devil really has been given his due lately, huh? Demonic possession is steadily becoming horror's go-to thing, and that's fine as long as it doesn't lead to the inevitable sure sign of the apocalypse that is The Exorcist being remade in 3D. Yep, that's when we'll seek religion.

Some new stills and art for Filmax International's Exorcismus have surfaced. In case you don't recall, it's a Spanish vérité-style flick by Manuel Carballo that explores the increasingly popular horror theme of exorcism. Check out the official synopsis, art, and first stills below.

First Batch of Stills from Filmax's Verite-Inspired 'Exorcismus'
Having just watched William Friedkin's The Exorcist this past week, I think it's safe to say we're bound to be disappointed with exorcism movies for the rest of eternity. While the Eli Roth produced The Last Exorcism (previously Cotton) will attempt to scare viewers once again, so will Filmax with Exorcismus, a Spanish flick by Manuel Carballo that explores the popular horror theme of exorcism, focusing on a young girl, Suzy, whose erratic behaviour forces her family to bring in a priest to try and resolve the problem through hypnosis. The disturbing results are recorded on a secret camera. The verite-style of filmmaking is nothing new, but Paranormal Activity, Rec and Blair Witch are the only flicks in the past decade to crack the code, maybe one of these two can?...

Creepy Promo Art for Filmax's 'Exorcismus'
With the recent success of Rec and Rec 2, my perception of Filmax International has changed completely. I always thought they were a generic production company that released eerily similar films; never bad, but also not all that great. These days Filmax has become a trusted brand, so my anticipation for Manuel Carballo's Exorcismus is through the roof. I'm quite sure the end of the road equals disappointment, but until then I'll enjoy the anticipation. Below you'll find a new synopsis and promo art for the film starring Tommy Bastow, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix, Douglas Bradley and Stephen Billington.

Two Resident Evil Actors to Star in Spainish Horror Exorcismus
Spain really is trying to become the next Japan, at least in terms of horror movie output, and helping shepherd the movement is studio Flimax, which produced [Rec] and [Rec] 2. Exorcismus is the company's English-language production that started shooting October 5 in and around Barcelona and has put together a horror fan-friendly cast with Hellraiser's Doug Bradley and Resident Evil actors Sophie Vavasseur (Resident Evil: Apocalypse) and Stephen Billington (Resident Evil).

Relative newcomer Manuel Carballo (Filmax's The Last of the Just) will direct the script by David Munoz (The Devil's Backbone).

The synopsis, according to Spanish horror site Aullidos, is roughly translated below. Real rough. We preferit through an online Spanish-to-English translator once, translate it back into Spanish, and then back into English for optimum results:

Exorcismus counts as Emma is fed above. It is satiated to study between company instead of going to the institute, is satiated to do of kangaroo of his small brother,...

Exorcismus gets rolling in Spain
On Monday, October 5, shooting commenced on Exorcismus, the latest fear film to come out of Spain’s Filmax studios. As with so many Spanish genre productions of the last decade, this one is also directed by a relative newcomer to feature filmmaking, Manuel Carballo (taking over for originally slated Luis de la Madrid). And in common with most of the company's previous horror movies (such as Arachnid, Dagon, Darkness, The MacHinist and Beyond Re-animator), the movie is being filmed with a multinational cast in English, on locations in and around the city of Barcelona.

The cast includes Resident Evil: Apocalypse’s Sophie Vavasseur (pictured), Richard Felix from Filmax’s Fragile, which still has yet to see U.S. release, Hellraiser stalwart Doug Bradley and the first Resident’s Stephen Billington. The movie has already been presold to a dozen countries, including Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Poland, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. Most...

Exorcismus Expands Cast and Updates Storyline
Spanish production house Filmax previously announced it would be following up [Rec] 2 with the Manuel Carballo-helmed Exorcismus, and today we got a bit of casting news and a more complete synopsis of the possession-based flick.

According to Aullidos (note the translation is a bit rough), shooting began on October 5th. This is a new production of Julio Fernandez and Sandra Fernandez [for] Filmax, shot in English and in which we see an international cast led by Sophie Vavasseur (pictured, Resident Evil: Apocalypse). Rounding out the cast [are] Richard Felix (Perfume; Fragile), Douglas Bradley (Hellraiser), and Stephen Billington (Resident Evil), among others. One of the main features of the film is to be shot with a very realistic tone, so that the fantasy theme of possession will be even more disturbing.

And what about that possession theme? How far will they go? Well, here's how Aullidos describes it: Emma is sick. Tired of...

Exorcismus Scares up a New Director
Filmax has been replacing directors left and right lately (er, just twice I guess, but still...) and here's another changing of the guard, this time surrounding the upcoming possession flick Exorcismus.

The IMDb got the skinny today, stating that Manuel Carballo will be taking over for Luis de la Madrid to helm the story of the Hawkins family, who are horrified to be dealing with demons who have infested their 15-year-old daughter Suzy and the dark secret that she shares with Father Ellis.

Been a while since we've had a really good Satanic possession flick (sorry, Emily Rose didn't do it for me although I know it's got its share of followers), so here's hoping Filmax will deliver the goods, split pea soup and all!

Teaser Poster for Filmax's Exorcismus
Yet another exorcism flick is on the way, this time from Filmax, and we can't recall the devil being this busy since Dick Cheney had a place in the White House!

Aullidos scored themselves the first bit of teaser artwork from Luis de la Madrid's Exorcismus which tells the tale of the Hawkins family who are horrified to be dealing with demons who have infested their 15-year old daughter Suzy, and the dark secret that she shares with Father Ellis.

Thanks to DC reader Robert for the heads-up. Check out the image below and look for more on this one soon!

Yes We Cannes!
Attendance was down by 30 percent at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. They screen the majority of these new motion pictures at seven different screening venues in sunny Santa Monica. The Afm is the proud home for the smaller guys, foreign and art-house features and B- to Z-grade movies. Just about everything stars Michael Madsen, C. Thomas Howell and/or Billy Zane. Best of all, the number of genre films has increased substantially over the 11 years I’ve been coming here,...
