Simple and sweet
kathrynraerobinson9 January 2024
Watched through mango shorts on YouTube.

If you want a series that is a simple, clean, light-hearted romantic comedy style than you cannot go wrong with this one. The concept is of course is a popular one lately with the contractual marriage trope, but I don't mind that (hey they keep making them because we all keep coming back for it right?).

I enjoyed that it was simple and light, it wasn't trying to be edgy or crazy. Sometimes we need a series like this as a palette cleanser - it makes you feel warm and smiley without having to do crazy drama. Plenty of butterfly moments, even a few teary moments because I liked the characters and wanted things to work on. Guess I'm a big ol' softy.

It was nice seeing the growth of all the characters through their story lines. Love story was a slow burn but didn't jump from into the realm of unrealistic with relational development which was nice.

One of the better Chinese romantic comedy series
gee-153 July 2021
There's really nothing innovative here...just the standard romcom plot with the usual theme of two very different people becoming romantically entangled ( in this case we have the "nonromantic marriage leading to true love" trope). However, it's all in the execution. And this particular series has selected one of the most endearing actresses I've seen anywhere to play the female lead. Yun Shu is pretty, kind and a real bubble head but so sweet you forgive her occasional goofiness (and she looks so cute in bunny pajamas!). This series works in great part because of her character. The male lead is a stoic, reserved professor of statistics whose desire to grant his dying grandfather's last wish sets the plot in motion. Wisely, the plot moves forward smoothly and even logically. There aren't too many silly misunderstandings and reactions to conflicts actually seem based in reality. Watching Yun Shu and Zhang fall in love and work out their differences and still remain likable people as well as a believable couple is one of the delights of this series. The secondary and tertiary couples (as in so many cases) are simply not as compelling. You can skip over their romances without losing much.

Neither us perfect but perfect for each other - 2 parallel lines never intersect

Warning: Spoilers
9.5/10 is my rating. This is a 2020 Chinese romantic comedy drama with 24, 45 minute episodes.

First I will provide a synopsis then review.

Synopsis

Zhang Si Zian (Wei Zhe Ming) is a genius level math professor who is handsome, wealthy and generally seems to have it all. His personality is on the coldly logical side and his emotional intelligence is only slightly better than a robot. Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) Is almost the direct opposite she is so warm, calm and caring that she is easily swindled. She has to work hard for academic success. A series of unfortunate events for Yun Shu leads her to rely on Si Zian for a place to live. Si Zian's grandfather meets Yun Shun in a chance encounter and thinks this ray of sunshine would be the perfect match for his grandson who lacks warmth in his life. Now that Yun Shu is no longer a student, they have no reason not to please Si Zian's terminally ill grandfather's wish and strike a deal for a secret comtract marriage. What they find is grandfather may have had it right about them all along, they balance each other beautifully. But love that starts under such unusual circumstances is never easy and the two must decide if they want their comtract to become the real deal.

Review

This is a well paced, relatively straight forward plot, with a lot if really engaging characters.

The way the lead couple compliment each other makes it easy to see why they would fall in love. When she thinks she is not right because rhey are too different the grandfather says two parallel lines never intersect. That was such a profound and brilliant way to state it. Being too different can be a problem if it is not complimentary but being exactly the same can be boring. I like that having the Male Lead's support made her absolutely flourish. And the grandfather as the match maker was cute! He fell in love with her as a granddaughter candidate and knew she was perfect for his grandson who needed someone sweet and warm to offset his cooly logical personality. It ended happy and all major story lines were wrapped up.

Spoilers Practically perfect but it did end with some question marks. Did the grandfather ever go for treatment? Was the reconciliation of her two best friends as a couple successful? What happened with her webtoon career because it was taking off then she did not go abroad so how bad was it derailed? It would have been good to see her sister and her actor boyfriend fully together. It ended with him on relationship "probation."

#PerfectandCasual #WeiZheMing #XuRuoHan.

Best romantic series of 2020

This was definitely one of the best romantic fluffy series of 2020. The girl is too cute, and the romance is really nice and fun to watch.

Unoriginal, cliche-fest

15 episodes in and I can't take this anymore. This drama is so unbelievably tacky, stuffed with a nauseating dose of cliches. I'm annoyed that i did not give into my initial instincts and drop this way earlier.

Zhang Si Nian (Wei Zhe Ming), statistics professor, was considered to be perfect in every way and pursued perfection in every thing in his life. Then one day his world is filled with chaos when a statistics student, enrolls in one of his classes.

Yun Shu (Xu Ruo Han) is optimistic and a bit simple girl doesn't like t cause any problems. She quickly finds herself homeless when her cousin cheats her out of a large sum of money. Fate will have it any other way than to reunite Yun Shu and Si Nian who makes her an offer she can't refuse.

In comes the ailling grandfather that wants to his grandson settled and married before he dies. Si Nian sees Yun Shu and offers in exchange for pretending to be his girlfriend a place to live

Agreeing to a loveless contractual marriage they end up in a place neither of them would have expected. With time feelings naturally grow between them. Luckily they have the support of their close friends and family to help them. Of course no Romantic Drama would not be wort watching without the help of the ever "perfect" jealous shrew.
