Joy and Sorrow - a great mixture, House-style

A truly atmospheric episode, it automatically became one of my favourites. The first scenes are like a a tribute to psycho thrillers. Even the colours adhere to the mood. And the House vs. Cuddy tension, although predictable, managed to shake me. He is cruel! Really, since the end of Season 4, House has become even more of a misanthrope. Which makes the episodes more moving, sad and.. fun. Of course, all is merged with moments of pure joy, the contrast makes the experience better. The episode title can be either ironic or... not really. For it is clearly about joy, though it's filled with sorrow. The additional characters, however, were flat and somewhat banal. (Especially that pregnant girl. Touching, but predictable. We've already seen that story on TV.) Which, in that particular case, is not such a bad thing, for these characters are like... let me use a metaphor... the raw, basic colours used as a background to outline the portrait of the main characters/ to convert the main suggestion more clearly. Like in old movie posters. Meaning: the episode is not too elaborated or too multi-layered. But it is elegant and influential. I absolutely loved it. And if you're in the right, dark mood, you will too.

There's a fair bit of medical misinformation about narcolepsy but great episode

Narcolepsy does not cause sleep walking. Narcolepsy causes the opposite of sleep walking: sleep paralysis. It can't cause both. And the condition is not usually genetic.

I notice a fair amount of medically inaccurate information on the show but it is a tv show after all and House is still my favorite show.

    Very Enjoyable...

At first I thought I had no idea what would happen in this episode, and then after I saw the trailer for it I realized I knew precisely what would happen. There would be the whole House and Cuddy thing, and I guessed immediately what would happen with the adoption.

There was also a very strange atmosphere, almost numbing throughout the beginning of the episode. Later I found out why, and at the end I could feel the House-e-ness seeping back in. It seemed inexplicably short, though...

Overall I really enjoyed this episode and I'm dying to see the new one in two weeks. Anyone else notice that ever since the writer's strike they've been doing that? Breaking the season up, I mean.

Anyway, it's a good episode and I recommend it to all House fans.

Cuddy brings Becca for evaluation through the ER. While Cameron disagrees with Cuddy's diagnosis, Cuddy admits her. In the next scene, Cameron is still doing the fetal evaluation. Cameron is a senior attending in the ER, so an obstetrician should be doing the fetal evaluation. However, this was probably done intentionally as a cost-saving measure to avoid paying another actor to do only one scene.
