While this was a good episode, House's infantile childlike attitude is growing tiresome. When he's in his element diagnosing patients, the show is great. But acting like a 5 year old the rest of the time is really annoying. It's enough to make me want to stop watching.
The episode reminds me of why I like their friendship so much, and of why I missed Wilson after Amber's death. The episode also delves into House's past and his issues with his father. There's a surprise thrown in that I didn't really see coming. It should make for some interesting episodes to come, though. Cuddy's role, while brief, is very funny.
Overall, it's an enjoyable episode with a lot of pranks, mischief, some painful (in a good way) moments, and fun. I highly recommend this episode.
OH! And House's ring tone kills me! It's Mmm Bop by the Hanson Brothers! I used to love those guys when I was little. Just the fact that House has that song as a ring tone cracks me up.
The case is a fascinating one, where an addicted Chinese girl, searching for her birth parents, finds herself near death. The issue is that conventional diagnoses don't seem to help at all. House even tries to continue his connection while in custody for reckless driving. He also makes quite the speech at the funeral. The conclusion is really great and out of the blue.
This episode finally restores the balance in universe. House is extremely mischievous and anyone in that "someone's" place will be extremely furious by his actions. Wilson was right he acts like a 5 year old boy.
Funeral episode was game changer. House was at his usual best. He made sure there is no laughter lost. It is not an episode where you will cry because you are touched. It is because something good happened.
What everyone was clamouring in last few episodes from the start of the season is now back on its path. We as viewers can now have a sign of relief and laugh out loud.
Thoroughly enjoyed the performance of House and rest of the team. It is a definite watch.
Once you watch the episode you will be pleasantly surprised. No more awkward or sentimental moments. All is well with house.
Don't miss.
While House is the featured mourner, don't think he is the only one. The others, Dr. Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) and the featured case (Samantha Quan), were also about death in a less subtle way.
But, House's travails, I suspect, would cause a lot of viewers to examine their relationships with their own fathers, alive or dead. And, like House, we would probably agree that, no matter how our relationship was then or how our memories are now, we are who we are because of our father, for better or worse.
Maybe it is not death that is the topic, but relationships. Whatever the case, it was another outstanding episode and an example of why this is the most intelligent show on TV.

- TriviaWhen House and Wilson attend a funeral, that funeral home is where they filmed the movie The Princess Diaries (2001). House and Wilson walk in at the same place where Mia (Anne Hathaway) waits to meet her grandmother Clarisse. House gives a speech about his father at the same location where Mia celebrates her new title as Princess at the end of the film.
- GoofsIn one scene when House and Wilson are in the car on the highway/freeway; the camera zooms in on the rear view mirror, in which you can see the police slowing traffic for filming.
- Quotes
Dr. Gregory House: [giving his father's eulogy] There's a lot of people here today. Including some from the Corps. And I noticed that every one of them, is either my father's rank, or higher. And that doesn't surprise me. Because if the test of a man is how he treats those he has power over... it was a test my father failed. This man you're eager to pay homage to, he was incapable of admitting any point of view but his own. He punished failure, he did not accept anything less than... He loved doing what he did, he saw his work as some kind of sacred calling, more important than any personal relationship. Maybe if he'd been a better father, I'd be a better son. But I am what I am because of him, for better or for worse.
