    Good boy

No pun intended - it's all in the family and all that. Of course you have to suspend your disbelief with this one. While it seems to be based in reality, it really goes off the rails quite quickly. Try to see this as a fairy tale of sorts. A quite violent one - or at least brutal. Nothing for the sensitive souls for sure.

Good effects and a crazy story. Maybe you identify with the loneliness of the main character (well if you can call it that - he is not "alone" - or is he?) - but of course no one should try anything that is shown is tried at home. If you like weird stuff, you will feel right at home (no pun intended once again). This also has a killer poster art ... just saying.

A charmingly endearing if barely much of a genre film

After the death of his mother, a lonely teen is taken unable to move on is forced to make friends which allows him to dig up recently-deceased corpses to use as a family but the more he spends with them the more he tries to keep them safe the family of corpses allows him a different life than he wanted.

This was a rather solid effort if suffers somewhat as a genre outing. The film has an entirely effective cheesy atmosphere throughout here that becomes its greatest asset, working a highly effective tone here with the spot-on satire on old-school corny tone at the sight of everything happening here. That comes from the flashbacks to the entirely goofy idea of the creatures coming to life for a fantasy-based series of encounters that maintain a highly enjoyable tone that carries on throughout here. All of the various whimsical situations throughout the second half come off quite nicely as it weaves through the secondary storyline involving the need for a person's independence and sense of family that this one carries throughout here. For all of this, though, the film does stumble as a genuine genre effort as the whole thing flies in the face of more traditional zombie fare. Rather than engage in the more expected flesh-ripping and entrail-munching that would be expected in these kinds of films, the zombies are treated more as a ghostly imaginary friend role that is constantly undecided whether or not others can see them. Despite his insistance that they're living with him and that they're constantly around him, this one tends to go back-and-forth as to their existence since there's nothing about how they come back to life as he just finds them awake one morning with no hint as to how they reanimated. It comes off as the one main flaw with this one, however, so it's not a completely crippling factor as those who can buy the whimsical setup will have a lot to like with this one.

    Rated Unrated/R: Violence and Language.

    well halloween...

Is just around the corner, filled with dead and creepy skeltonized figures wherever you turn around, and its surtainly the season to be jolly if you like horror comedies like the one i review here, or the more smashier of the matter.

This is all happening in the glorious 80's, when the music whamed you and still do, a lonely boy has to make a friendship or go to the house of insane...

well he makes friends for sure, quite a neckrofilia love story it is, with a sharp script and a naive style of acting that may feel by far gotten by the most horristic part of the audience, but comedywise and as a decent look at the halloween traditions made in the u.s.a. It really follows the thick red line, with pinkish backgrounds and superstyled set decorations and and choice of locations is superbly done.

My acclaim though goes to the makeup and specialeffects departments, the yokes made arent the most advanced nor costliest in the movie business but they work. The script is filled with dead earnest irony and picrasy, well hidden in the acts and words performed by a rather pictorial whacked out acting crew. Playing dead aint easy and they know the acts of stilleben, and doing the most hilarious acts to countermeassure your angsts and other frights in life...

a well made film, perfect playtime, and wellmade and chosen score. The grumpy old man wouldve died from laughter if seen back in the eighties, but it still have that tremendous power to make me laugh (with my spouce) today too. A recommend...

Essential film for the Horror Comedy genre

Not everybody appreciates dark humor and this film is dark humor perfected. Wife and I loved it! Definitely gonna be a buy via Redbox.

My thought is that this film may have grossed out the squeamish which only serves to demonstrate that this type of film is an acquired taste and not for someone looking for typical horror fare.

Perhaps a bit more niche but feel this is on Everything Everywhere All at Once tier for entertainment. The subtle quips and attention to detail are on par. The film also has a aesthetic that reminds me of Stranger Things and it's nostalgia.

People need to stop judging the corpse based on superficial rotten flesh. Not cool guys!

one of a kind story, with an eyecatching aesthetic

Love the mix of horror and comedy (and some drama), two of my favourite genres. The delivery of satire was perfect. Had a laugh watching it. But what really attracted my eyes was the set. I love the atmosphere of a peaceful 80s house. The details, the set, everything! It was amazing, perfect, and beautifully executed - matched with such an amazing, underrated and talented cast that perfectly played their roles.

Honestly, a must-watch. Besides, Halloween is approaching. This would be a perfect movie for a night spent with family and friends. It sure captures the essence of halloween pretty well.

    • Trivia
In the scene in which Oliver's "mother" Susanne phones Chloe's mother Rachel to invite Rachel's family to a Halloween party, classical piano music is heard in the background. The piece being performed during the short phone call is the fourth movement of Franz Schubert's Sonata in B-flat Major, D. 960.
    • Goofs
When Oliver is playing the piano and asks Mitch "do you know this song", it's the "King Of Wishful Thinking" by Go West which came out in 1990. The date on the camcorder in a later scene says the year is 1987.
