Not every hero wears a cape — some curse, cheat, and still save the day.

I’ve always been more of an anti-hero guy than a full-blown superhero fan. Don’t get me wrong, I respect the capes — but there’s just something way more interesting about characters who break the rules, bend the line between right and wrong, and still manage to save the day (sort of). That’s why I’m genuinely excited for “Thunderbolts*.” It looks like Marvel is finally embracing the messier side of heroism. So if you’re like me and prefer your heroes a little rough around the edges, here are my top seven anti-hero action movies you can stream right now, ranked.

Nicolas Cage is a renowned actor with numerous awards to his name, but his latest movie is struggling to gain traction. Merging the worlds of elite athletics and Hollywood filmmaking, soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo and acclaimed director Matthew Vaughn have kicked off Ur•Marv, a joint venture film studio.

The independent studio aims to disrupt conventional filmmaking by “embracing innovative technology, with a nod to tradition.” The partnership has already yielded tangible results, with two completed action films – which Vaugh and Ronaldo financed and produced together via Ur•Marv – and a third in active development, all part of the same series. Details of the first film will be unveiled imminently.

“This is an exciting chapter for me, as I look ahead to new ventures in business,” Ronaldo said.

Pierce Brosnan has weighed in on ongoing speculation around the future of the James Bond franchise, voicing support for actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a potential replacement for Daniel Craig.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Brosnan reflected on Taylor-Johnson’s past performance and presence on set. The two previously worked together on the 2009 drama The Greatest, where Taylor-Johnson played a leading role.

“I think he would be very good,” Brosnan said. “I cast him in one of the movies I made a long time ago called The Greatest, actually. And he played ‘the greatest.’ This young man came on the set and took the space, filled the space with passion and energy.”

I love a movie where the main character, with Meg Ryan’s eyes and Dennis Quaid’s jawline, prepares for a fight by punching his already bloody and battered fists into a shattered pile of glass to prove a point. Not only does Novocaine want to pull the viewer through the unthinkable, but it drags the viewer in on a enthralling ride that refuses to let up.

Novocaine pushes the envelope with its gallows humor. Tell me you don’t wince in pain watching bits of glass in Jack Quaid’s knuckles while laughing hysterically every step of the way. Kraven the Hunter is walking in the footsteps of another Sony Spider-Man Universe (Ssmu) movie with its recent Netflix streaming release date announcement. 

Spider-Man's big-game-hunter villain finally got the big screen treatment in the 2024 Ssmu movie, with Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson taking the role of the iconic Marvel character.

The movie has had a much-documented journey to this point, as it became one of the worst-reviewed superhero movies of all time, bringing to a close Sony Pictures' Spidey villain-based ventures and prompting the studio to entirely rethink its super-powered strategy.

The critically panned Spider-Man spin-off (which ultimately brought Sony’s ill-thought-out shared universe to an end), Kraven the Hunter is ready to enact brutal vengeance on Netflix next month. The comic book action outing, which stars Kick-Ass and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the Marvel antihero, caused yet another divide between critics and audiences at the time, with the latter crowd no doubt excited to be able to stream Kraven at home.

Kraven the Hunter will be available to stream on Netflix in the United States on March 13, 2025, according to What’s on Netflix. Directed by J. C. Chandor from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, Kraven the Hunter tells the origin of the Marvel character, much like Venom before it. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for "The Amazing Spider-Man" #15 back in 1964, Kraven the Hunter follows the title character on a violent vendetta.

It has been over two years since James Gunn announced his plans for Chapter 1 of the Dcu, Gods & Monsters. The comic book genre has exploded over the last decade. Whether it be DC or Marvel, there have been plenty of stories based on our favorite characters, like Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. However, some of the best films in the genre have been based on some lesser-known comics that have gotten new life thanks to their big-screen adaptations. One of the biggest examples of this would be 2010’s Kick-Ass. The day-in-the-life of a superhero jump-started a couple of its key stars’ careers while bringing director Matthew Vaughn into the mainstream. Now, as fans wait for Marvel to kick off the comic book slate for 2025, Kick-Ass has found a new streaming home.

Chris Hemsworth is taking Netflix by storm, and not just because of his Netflix original movies. The actor rose to prominence in his home country when he starred as Kim Hyde in the Australian soap opera Home and Away from 2004 to 2007. However, Hemsworth gained worldwide recognition when he joined the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor in 2011. He played the titular character, of course, and would go on to appear as Thor in ten more movies in the MCU, four of them his own.

Well, Schmoes, as 2024 finally draws to a close, we reflect on a year full of ups and downs, box office shocks and surprises, and many unexpected hits and misses. If there is one thing for sure, there are always movies highly overrated and underrated by critics and fans alike. As the UnPopular Opinion Guy, I felt it was only fitting to issue my list of the movies I felt the masses got wrong. Some of these may shock you, and some may piss you off, but these are my honest-to-goodness perspective on the movies of 2024. This all happened during the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012. Jim Carrey wasn’t okay with the violence the film portrayed anymore. In a tweet, he declared: “I did Kick-Ass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”

Creator Mark Millar was baffled by the whole stuff. He took to his blog, alluding, “[I’m] baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay 18 months ago.” Ouch.

2024 had multiple blockbusters and sequels that were critical and financial successes, yet the year, like any other, had some underwhelming movies. There is no worse feeling for a viewer than seeing a movie they had high hopes for, or thought would be at least decent, turn out to be a disappointment. These films garnered much anticipation due to either a promising IP, an ambitious premise, or the talent involved on and off-screen.

Alas, these once-intriguing movies fell apart for audiences and critics when they were released. There are many reasons why these movies fell below expectations, whether it was questionable storytelling, glaringly obvious CGI, or, if they were part of a franchise, they couldn't create the same magic from previous installments. From Joker: Folie à Deux to Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the 2024 movie season was occasionally plagued by these letdowns.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson found the role of serial killer Ray Marcus in ‘Nocturnal Animals’ “really, really difficult”.The 34-year-old actor starred opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon and Isla Fisher in Tom Ford’s 2016 crime-thriller as the serial killer, though struggled to portray such a vicious character and felt “so out of [his] depth”.In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, Taylor-Johnson said: “I had a real issue taking on that role. I found it really, really difficult.“I couldn’t understand why Tom – who I knew, sort of, from dinner parties here and there – wanted me to play a serial killer. My feeling was: ‘I can’t. I don’t see a way in here. I don’t even know what you want me to do.’ I was so out of my depth. “Tom’s whole thing was, ‘I just feel like this character should have so much charisma. That’s what’s unpredictable about him.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has quickly become a notable name in Hollywood, having appeared in a handful of memorable films over the last decade. He will still be best known to many audiences for his starring role in Kick-Ass (2010) and the 2013 sequel, but he also played the lead in 2014's Godzilla, which remains a highlight of Legendary's MonsterVerse.

More recently, Taylor-Johnson has appeared in movies like Tenet (2020), The King's Man (2021), Bullet Train (2022), The Fall Guy (2024), and the critically-acclaimed Nosferatu (2024). These days, Taylor-Johnson is mentioned most commonly as the actor who is seemingly a front-runner to be the next James Bond. One of his most important roles, however, couldn't be further away from 007, with Taylor-Johnson having played an unhinged serial killer back in 2016.

James Bond 26 could still be quite a ways off, as a new report recently revealed tension between producer Barbara Broccoli and Amazon, the new owner of MGM.

What’s Good: The film’s tone doesn’t shy away from the comic-book feeling of old, an element that most modern superhero films try to avoid in favor of a more realistic feeling.

What’s Bad: The script is just nonsense, and the way they changed some of the main aspects of Kraven as a character feels like a betrayal to the character itself.

Loo Break: The start feels a bit slow, but you must go on that break before things go wild and into ridiculous territory.

Watch or Not?: This is a pass unless you are an Aaron Taylor-Johnson fan. If not, move along, as there are better films out there.

For months now, Kick-Ass and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been rumored for the role of James Bond, with the Kraven the Hunter the favorite to take over from Daniel Craig following 2021’s No Time to Die. But, has the critical and financial failure of his Sony and Marvel outing hurt his chances? Maybe, as a new favorite has now emerged...and he could be fantastic.

According to the betting site Coral, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star Callum Turner has seen his odds halved from 4-1 to 2-1, meaning there’s now far more chance that he could be the next actor chosen to sport the iconic tuxedo. Best known for roles in the Harry Potter spin-off franchise, as well as Green Room, Assassin’s Creed, and the acclaimed television series Masters of the Air, Turner certainly fits the criteria as laid out by longtime 007 producers Barabara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

As part of its Limelight series of audio dramas, BBC will be debuting on December 27th the audio thriller “Don’t Listen to This” on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds. Created by Pulitzer Prize-winning Canadian writer Anthony Del Col, the story centers on the death of a top esports athlete and his former team psychologist’s journey to uncover the truth behind it. Her journey through the world of esports – its fans, owners and players - leads her towards the abandoned development of an online arena battle game, its deceased creator and an audio clip from a cut scene… that may have the power to kill people.

“The world of esports is the perfect place to set a story – full of drama, intrigue, friendship, ego, money and more,” Del Col says. “I’m so excited to have teamed up with BBC Studios and a fantastic cast to create this...

An affordable streaming service with plenty of options for their subscribers to choose from, Peacock is definitely worth paying for. Next month, the platform will add a slew of films to its already extensive catalog, and viewers won’t want to overlook them. From horror films to comedies, audiences are bound to find something worthy of a movie night.

While some of the films scheduled to hit the platform next month will certainly warrant plenty of tears, others will only garner laughs. However, no matter what viewers are in the mood to watch, Peacock has them covered. Given the various genres set to arrive in January, viewers will likely find something they’ll enjoy.

Released in 2010, Kick-Ass was a superhero black comedy film that starred Johnson as an ordinary teenager named Dave who becomes a real-life superhero called "Kick-Ass." Dave soon gets caught up in a larger battle when he comes across the former cop Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) who is trying to take down crime boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong). The film also starred Chloë Grace Moretz as the violent vigilante Hit-Girl and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Red Mist, the son of D'Amico.

Since The Boys is finally ending its run with season 5, Jack Quaid will likely need a worthy replacement for the show in the action genre. Interestingly, it looks like the actor's upcoming movie will not only be the perfect follow-up to his portrayal of Hughie in The Boys but also give him a strange but fascinating superpower from a 17-year-old superhero flick. Even before Jack Quaid starred as Hughie in The Boys, he had a few mainstream movie and TV projects, like Logan Lucky, Vinyl, and Rampage, under his belt.

However, he became a household name after appearing as one of the main characters in The Boys, which also paved the way for him to land other big roles in movies and shows, like Stark Trek: Lower Decks and Oppenheimer. Since The Boys is about to conclude with one final installment, Jack Quaid's tenure as Hughie might finally come to a close.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. and DC Studios shared the first poster for Superman. The movie will serve as the true launching platform for the new Dcu after Max's Creature Commandos, and excitement for Thursday's trailer is rapidly rising.

In the motion poster shared on social media yesterday, we heard what appeared to be composer John Murphy's score for the reboot. Taking its cues from John Williams' work in Superman: The Movie and, to a lesser extent, Hans Zimmer's Man of Steel theme, it's received a positive response from fans.

Today, Murphy has posted a 30-second clip on YouTube in a video he's named "Theme From Superman." We don't know if this is the Man of Tomorrow's main theme, but it seems to be at least part of it (we'd imagine a full "reveal" is being saved for the trailer).
