FAQ

The Muppets

FAQ

Gary (Jason Segel) and his Muppet brother Walter help Kermit and Co. get back together and put on a show to save the Muppet Theater when it is scheduled to be destroyed.

Yes, the plot is similar to other classic Muppet projects, but it's a way to reintroduce these characters to a brand new generation of fans.

From Entertainment Weekly: "Walter is a sweet, slightly naive twenty-something Everypuppet who, in the movie, is the brother and roommate of [Jason] Segel's character, Gary. Both Gary and Walter are die-hard Muppet fans. "Walter is the kind of guy who faints when he sees Kermit," [James] Bobin says. Of course, Walter's Muppet fandom is complicated by the fact that he is a Muppet himself. "Walter has a bit of a self-confidence issue because he's the only person like him that he's seen aside from the Muppets," Segel explains. 'His dream is to meet the Muppets and be around people who are like him.'" Walter will be puppeteered and voiced by Muppet performer Peter Linz.

Classic puppets. According to most sources, the script contains very few shots that would require the use of CGI. Computer technology was still used to remove arm rods, etc., as has been the case since at least Muppet Treasure Island.

With the exception of Muppets from Space, one cannot expect a Muppet movie without singing. The film will have songs written by Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie, along with Muppet classics such as "Rainbow Connection," "Bein' Green", and "Mahna Mahna".

Frank Oz, as stated in a recent interview, was dissatisfied with the original script and how it portrayed the characters and therefore declined to reprise his roles in this movie. Prior to Disney approving Jason Segel's script, Frank Oz had written a draft script for the new Muppets movie, however Disney declined the draft and approved Jason Segel's script instead after making a few alterations. Frank has also unofficially retired from his performing Muppet career after filming Muppets from Space, focusing instead on his directorial career. While he still occasionally performs his Sesame Street characters, he has turned over his classic Muppet Show characters to Eric Jacobson.

"We Built This City" by Starship.
