Glowflare Horror Film Festival Kicks Off with Vampires, Sorcery and Amnesia
Image
The Glowflare Horror Film Festival has announced the first titles in its 2025 programme, setting the stage for a weekend of unsettling cinema in East Yorkshire this May. Running 17-18 May at Parkway Cinema in Beverley, the festival kicks off with three fiercely independent horror features, all of which promise to test the nerves and expectations of its audience.

First on the list is All This Time, the new psychological time-loop chiller from Rob Worsey. Starring Emily Rose Holt, the film follows a mother ensnared in a never-ending night within a mysterious house where reality slips further away with each repetition. Pursued and manipulated by a sinister vampire, played by Dan De Bourg, Grace must confront a labyrinth of memory and trauma to escape. With gothic imagery, an enigmatic housekeeper, and echoes of The Others and Triangle, Worsey’s film looks set to be a standout entry for fans of character-driven terror.

Hulu Spotlights Love Triangle Murder Of Mike Williams In True-Crime Docuseries
Image
Exclusive: Hulu has greenlit a docuseries about the murder of Mike Williams, a Baptist from Florida who was originally thought to have been eaten by alligators.

The untitled four-part series will premiere over the summer on Hulu and is produced by UK production company Plum Pictures and ABC News Studios. Post-production is currently underway.

The true-crime series chronicles the events surrounding December 16, 2000, when Williams set out for a duck hunting trip on Lake Seminole and never returned.

Williams and his wife, Denise, had what seemed like an idyllic friendship with Kathy and Brian Winchester in Tallahassee, Florida.

The two young couples loved hunting and the great outdoors, doing everything as a foursome, including planning the birth of their babies within months of each other.

But after Williams went missing and Brian Winchester divorced Kathy and married Denise, the accident suddenly looked a little more sinister.

In 2017, nearly two decades after Williams vanished,...

Watch Sean Bean Probably Die in This Medieval Cult Horror Max Streaming Hit
Image
Sean Bean dies a lot. It’s been something of established lore since Bean first broke through to mainstream audiences in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. There, Bean’s Boromir had a volley of arrows shot his way in the finale, precluding him from appearing in either subsequent sequel. I’m not sure if the lore first took hold there, because he died plenty of times before then. He died in 1993’s Patriot Games. He died in 1994’s Scarlett. He died again in 1995’s Goldeneye. Watch out for satellites, folks.

His most famous death is undoubtedly Game of Thrones, of course, but Bean has a secret, thematically similar death in a horror movie you most likely missed (and not John Fawcett’s The Dark). I’m talking about Black Death, director Christopher Smith’s hidden medieval horror gem. Surprising everyone, Black Death...

11 Midseason Replacements That Became Broadcast TV’s Biggest Hits
Image
A midseason replacement is exactly what it sounds like: a show that comes on at the mid-point of the television season to replace another series.

Back in the day, this could have been because a series was on the verge of cancellation, and they were looking to slot something in its place. But nowadays, series have long-planned breaks in their seasons where another show can slide on in since repeats aren’t really a thing anymore.

This 2024-2025 television season has been filled with some impressive midseason fare like Doc on Fox and The Hunting Party on NBC, which have become favorites here at TV Fanatic. But will these shows turn out to be long-running, established hits?

(Disney/Anne Marie Fox)

A midseason show has the odds stacked against it because even though shows have been premiering midseason for years, many people still don’t realize that a new show...

Sean Bean's 15-Year-Old Medieval Horror Movie Gets a New Streaming Home
Image
Sean Bean's characters have suffered brutal deaths on TV and in films. The most notable has been 2010's Black Death, in which his onscreen demise wasn't gratuitous or graphic, but was arguably the most horrifying to date.

Black Death will be streaming on Max from April 1. The action-horror film features an ensemble cast led by The Day of the Jackal's Eddie Redmayne. It also includes Game of Thrones actors Sean Bean and Carice van Houten. Director Christopher Smith filmed Black Death as a realistic depiction of Europe in the Late Middle Ages, during the onslaught of the Bubonic plague.

The story follows Ulric (Redmayne), an envoy to the regional bishop, as he's sent to a remote village reportedly untouched by the disease. Novice monk Osmund (Bean) escorts him along with a small group of local soldiers. Smith previously described the film as a "medieval guys on a mission...

10 Amazing Horror Movies That Leave You With More Questions Than Answers
Image
All good horror thrives on the unknown, but sometimes it really thrives on the unknown. While plenty of scary movies love to tie things up in a neat, terrifying bow, others seem dead set on making sure you leave the theater (or your couch) more confused than when you started. These are the films that don’t just end on a question mark -- they practically mock you for expecting anything else.

Of course, some of the best horror stories don’t hand you all the answers because the real horror lies in uncertainty. Ambiguity keeps the fear alive, lingering in your brain long after fans finish watching the film. However, some movies revel in unsettling mysteries more than most and not only refuse to explain themselves and actively create more questions than they do answers.

How Was Gary Oldman Convinced That Christopher Nolan Is A Great Director? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

Gary Oldman is widely regarded as one of the finest actors of his generation. With a career spanning decades, he has showcased remarkable versatility, earning critical acclaim for roles in films like Sid and Nancy (1986), Leon: The Professional (1994), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), and Darkest Hour (2017), which won him an Academy Award for Best Actor. However, to a new generation of filmgoers, Oldman is fondly known for playing Jim Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy.

Kanye West’s life seems to be spiraling into utter disarray, both in his home and personal affairs. If You Love 'The Menu,' You Need to Watch 'Triangle of Sadness'
Image
The Menu, Mark Mylod's decadent, dark satire, saw a resurgence in popularity this month after its addition to Netflix on January 29. The 2022 film, which stars industry legends like Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, and many more, follows a high-class chef as he prepares an exclusive and deadly dining experience for a list of elite guests. While The Menu, which functionally intends to serve as a sort of interrogation and take down of the very wealthy, did receive generally positive reviews from critics and viewers, there were many (the author of this article included) that felt that it left something to be desired.

However, there is another film from the same exact year that accomplished The Menu's goals and, arguably, surpasses them, even garnering itself an Oscar nomination for Best Picture in the process. If The Menu whet your appetite for an even better (and more disturbing) examination of class,...

‘Opus’ Review: Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich Can’t Rescue This Celebrity Cult Horror Misfire
Image
Ariel Ecton (Ayo Edebiri), the keen and ambitious journalist at the center of Mark Anthony Green’s sluggish feature debut Opus, is desperate for a big break. Like many young people in magazines, she gets passed over for consequential features and splashy profiles, even when the ideas come from her. So when Ariel receives an auspicious invitation from the legendary musician Alfred Moretti (John Malkovich) to preview his new album at a remote compound in Utah, she immediately accepts. The pop star, a David Bowie variant, hasn’t released music in 30 years, and covering his return is the opportunity of a lifetime.

A steady procession of relatively mediocre black comedies have primed us for Opus. Triangle of Sadness parodied the wealthy class and their out-of-touch behaviors; The Menu gorged on monstrous culinary world personalities and the sycophants who feed them; and most recently, Blink Twice confronted the protective bubbles shielding powerful men from accountability.

10 Modern Anime Tropes We're All Going To Find Problematic In 10 Years
Image
As a medium, anime is rife with tropes, and depending on their nature, they can make or break an anime. The tropes fans find acceptable today may not hold up in the future, because both society and public opinion are always changing. What passes one day may be seen as problematic the next, and depending on how problematic the tropes are, they could even wind up getting an anime canceled.

Reactions are sometimes overblown, of course, but public opinion is still a key factor, especially when it comes to entertainment. Tropes fans once found endearing don't stand the test of time, as viewers reexamine them in the present day and find them either lacking or troublesome. The same will most assuredly happen to the anime tropes that are relevant and popular now. In ten years, the common tropes fans tolerate today may be seen as too problematic to include in future anime.

Video Nasty episode 1 review | Welcome back to 1985
Leia Murphy, Justin Daniels Anene, and Cal O'Driscoll in Video Nasty (2025)
The BBC’s new comedy drama Video Nasty is a wonderfully nostalgic ode to an era of banned horror on VHS. Here’s our episode 1 review.

Remember the good old days of strolling into a video store and spending at least an hour picking a film? Or getting your big brother or an older friend to rent one of the classic horror films for you before you were old enough to do it yourself? It’s an era I often look back on and miss. Browsing on Netflix just isn’t the same, but BBC’s new 6-part comedy horror series Video Nasty lets us relive those good old days, with a side of murder mystery.

As you likely already know, several horror films – most of them brilliantly deranged and gory – were banned and/or branded as a video nasty in the 1980s in the UK. Naturally, illegal copies of...

Well, first of all, just the series as a whole. It’s such a great platform for actors. It was so clear that it’s a show, production, and team that wants to be a venue for bringing in great actors to work on great material. So the company they keep is so wonderful.

Image
Warning! Spoilers about Fire Country season 3, episode 1 ahead.

Gabriela looking back to Bode made Fire Country season 2s finale end in a cliffhanger, but season 3, episode 1 finally showed what Gabriela plans to do in her future after the helicopter crash effectively stopped her wedding. Gabrielas feelings for Bode hadnt disappeared in Fire Country season 2, no matter how much she wanted them to and how focused she was on starting her life with Diego. That became clear during the campaign fire in Fire Country season 2, episode 9 when the impossible settings forced Bode and Gabriela to talk about their past and how Bode hurt Gabriela.

Their kiss during the campaign fire only made things difficult in Fire Country season 2s finale when Gabriela was debating whether to have the ceremony inside or outside, using the two options as a metaphor to decide whether to choose the dependable Diego or the heartbeat-skips-inducing Bode.

Liam Hemsworth's $3.3 Billion Movie Franchise Proves He Can Replace Henry Cavill As Geralt In The Witcher
Image
Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher season 4, and the actor's $3.3 billion movie franchise proves he'll be able to do so successfully. After Cavill's impressive stint as The Witcher's lead, Hemsworth has big shoes to fill heading into the next outing of Netflix's fantasy series. Season 4's Geralt recast has proven disappointing and surprising for many fans of the franchise, despite the fact that Hemsworth is a worthy successor to Cavill. And even though Hemsworth is inspiring confidence through his interest in the role, he'll have to work to win fans over.

Fortunately, Hemsworth's best movies from Triangle to The Dressmaker prove he's capable of giving standout performances. And the actor's role in the $3.3 billion Hunger Games franchise is perhaps the greatest proof that he can handle the role of Geralt. While The Witcher season 4 will no doubt be an adjustment, Hemsworth...

Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 2 Review: Fall From Grace

High school reunions bring back petty grievances and rivalries as much as they rekindle lost romances and friendships.

Featuring Gibson’s 50th reunion during Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 2 explored many storylines, including the case-of-the-week.

However, it also expanded on Karl and Cassandra’s romance and developed the camaraderie between the newbies on the police force.

(Kailey Schwerman/ Fox) A Love Triangle Imploded At the Wrong Time

When someone snapped photos of Kayla (Malaika Hennie-Hamadi) and Bobby (Greyston Holt) kissing, that was a red flag.

Sneaking around never works, and her husband Ivan (Nathan Witte) confronted her at Molly’s with the photo, so she couldn’t even lie out of it.

The confrontation between the men seemed more heated than usual. Granted, most men are angry if they learn their wives cheat, but the words and punches seemed personal.

It got violent quickly, with Molly’s customers...

10 Times Supernatural Copied Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Image
Supernatural is unquestionably one of the best fantasy TV shows around, and actually got a lot of its ideas from the seminal '90s show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While Buffy ran between 1997 and 2003, Supernatural ran between 2006 and 2020, giving it time to absorb Buffy's brilliance. Many crew members of the Supernatural show have been vocal about their appreciation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Supernatural producer Ben Edlund wrote for Angel, the popular Buffy spinoff. This link inevitably created some of the Buffy influence seen in Supernatural. This influence ranged across tone, theme, and subtle Easter eggs.

Supernatural showrunner Eric Kripke (who also helmed The Boys) went as far as saying, "Buffy really taught me about effectively using metaphor in genre... I used that same philosophy on my run of Supernatural" (via Yahoo Entertainment). Many of the best Supernatural episodes display this process, with Whedon's "high school is hell" metaphor...
