Sony is investing more and more in its planned reboot of the Anaconda movie series, which continues to take shape.

Debuting in 1997 – with Jon Voight’s sneer and a massive snake, all under the watchful eye of director Luis Llosa – Anaconda was a solid hit. Still, its subsequent sequels and crossovers never troubled the inside of a cinema.

However, the new reboot – which has been active since early 2020 – is heading for the big screen, and has attracted a notably comic cast.

Jack Black and Paul Rudd were early additions, and joining now is Daniela Melchior in what Deadline reports is in an ‘unknown’ role. We’ve got a bit of info on that, however.

Earlier this year, the news broke that Columbia Pictures is planning to squeeze new life out of the Anaconda franchise, with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent director Tom Gormican set to helm a reimagining of the 1997 giant snake horror movie.

Paul Rudd and Jack Black have now been confirmed to play the lead roles, and according to Deadline, Daniela Melchior has also joined the cast.

Melchior was most recently seen in the Road House remake, and also made a memorable appearance as Cleo Cazo, aka Ratcatcher 2, in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.

Gormican will also co-write the script with collaborator Kevin Etten.

The project is said to have been in development at the studio since early 2023, and has gone through numerous rewrites as the "filmmaker and Columbia tried to find the right balance of tones."

We've seen several teasers for the movie at this stage, and while we have caught a couple of chilling glimpses of Nicolas Cage as the titular serial killer, the character's full visage has been kept under wraps - with good reason.

While it is a little early to say that Glen Powell‘s Hit Man is the best film of 2024 it is sure to end up in the top 3 for many people. Directed by Richard Linklater, who also co-wrote the film with star Powell. Loosely based on the real-life of Gary Johnson, Hit Man follows the story of a psychology professor who moonlights as a pretend hit man for the police, but Gary’s life takes a complete 180 when he meets a beautiful woman who comes to him to have her husband killed. Hit Man also stars Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Retta, Molly Kate Bernard, Evan Holtzman, and Morgana Shaw. Nicolas Cage deserves at least one more installment to his action adventure National Treasure franchise. However, even after 17 years of the release of the second installment, the updates on the movie franchise have been vehemently silent. While most fans want National Treasure to be a trilogy, Cage would need an addition of one more movie to complement that.
