J.J. Abrams' Duster will take us on an exciting ride along (Trailer)
Image
Ready for a wild ride? That's what J.J. Abrams’ Duster looks like it's going to deliver, with high-stakes action, gritty drama, and a compelling story set against the backdrop of 1970s America. Slated to premiere on Max on May 15, here's everything you need to know about this new original series.

Ordered by Max in 2023, Duster is described as a crime thriller. It's created by Abrams and Latoya Morgan. You might know Abrams for co-creating shows such as Felicity, Lost and Fringe. He also created the beloved TV show Alias, which starred Jennifer Garner in the leading role. Morgan, on the other hand, is known for writing for shows like Parenthood, Shameless, Into the Badlands and The Walking Dead. With these two talented creatives at the helm, I'd say Duster is in very capable hands.

Now, let's take a look at the thrilling, action-packed trailer for a sneak peek of what's to come!

Image
Joshua Jackson was 15 years old when he first appeared in The Mighty Ducks film series. The actor recently recalled how co-star Emilio Estevez's advice helped him appreciate success as a celebrity.

Speaking on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jackson said he was still "just a child" in 1992's The Mighty Ducks, one of that decade's feel-good sports comedies. "Emilio gave me a ton of great advice," he recalled. "I learned how to be on set from [him]." He noted one incident that would have led to a bad turn in his career, if Estevez hadn't intervened. In The Mighty Ducks, Jackson played Charlie Conway, a youth hockey team's hotshot rookie who learns the true meaning of winning by the end of the film.

Jackson said his behavior behind the scenes resembled his conceited character in the first movie. After filming a scene for the 1994 sequel, D2: The Mighty Ducks, he remembered...

Mr. Wick is again trying to retire in John Wick: Chapter 4. Ambitious TV Shows That Were Sadly Canceled After One Season
Image
In recent years, seeing a show with tons of intrigue and a high-quality concept get axed after one season has become an unfortunate trend. Many point fingers at Netflix, a streaming service that has been continuously canceling beloved shows before they get a second season. However, while Netflix has received backlash for many undeserving cancelations, other networks and services have done it before.

What stings the most about these specific series is how many fresh and promising ideas they contain. These shows could have been memorable additions to their respective genres, yet their one-season run hindered that potential. Because low ratings and viewership couldn't justify the cost that went into these shows, their networks or services pulled the plug. 1899, Terra Nova, and The Society are just a few of many series with outstanding premises, but they only had one season for audiences.

Oscar Winning Writer Akiva Goldsman Tapped to Helm Famous Irwin Allen Sci-Fi Series

While it may sound odd that the same visionary writer that brought fans both the moving drama Cinderella Man and the goofy comic book film Batman Forever is now working on a re-imagined retro sci-fi TV universe, Goldsman has always had a diverse portfolio. He has worked on a variety of projects, like the Best Picture winner A Beautiful Mindand the hit...

Netflix cancels its best attempt at Yellowstone after one season, and it's a shame
Image
Netflix just canceled its best answer yet to Yellowstone and it may be a mistake!

There's an old rule in television that when a show is a hit, you're going to see a lot of copycats trying to capture the same success. Thus, when Yellowstone became a sensation, it's no shock that other streamers would try their own shows of a family of ranchers fighting for control.

Among them was Territory, an Australian series that was released globally in October 2024. The six-episode series was pushed well with hopes of a second year.

Sadly, that won't happen as C21 Media confirms the series won't be returning for a second year. In a rarity, Netflix issued a statement on the cancellation from Que Min Luu, Netflix's director of content for Australia and New Zealand.

"We are incredibly thankful to have had the chance to work with the wonderful cast and production team...

Crystal Lake: Linda Cardellini in talks to play Pam Voorhees in Friday the 13th series?
Image
On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. Things were moving ahead at a good pace, filming was expected to begin this July, but then the project hit a speed bump at the end of April with the firing of Fuller and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray. Things got back on track in late August with the hiring of a new showrunner – and that person is Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer of It: Welcome to Derry,...

'Friday the 13th' Prequel Series May Have Found Its Pamela Voorhees in Linda Cardellini
Image
The long-gestating Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake that's in the works from A24 seems to be back on track after the departure of showrunner Bryan Fuller last year caused it to undergo a complete overhaul. Brad Caleb Kane, who recently wrapped production on the It prequel series Welcome to Derry, is now running the show, and we have our first bit of casting news that Linda Cardellini is in talks to play Pamela Voorhees.

The news comes by way of industry insider Jeff Sneider (via Bloody Disgusting), so take it with a grain of salt right now until it's been confirmed by other sources, but if true, Cardellini would be the first official cast member for Crystal Lake. First announced in 2022, the show is described as an "expanded prequel" to the popular slasher franchise, and will focus on not only Pamela, but her son Jason as well.

Cardellini...

Undercooked Mechanics in ‘Urban Myth Dissolution Center’ Leave You Wanting More [Review]
Image
One of my favorite episodic formats is investigating strange happenings. The X-Files, Supernatural, Fringe, these shows all set up a case of the week about a weird incident, then unravel the truth behind it through a series of compelling twists and turns. This is the vibe that Urban Myth Dissolution Center, a new adventure game/visual novel from developer Hakababunko, tries to capture, but with its own anime-inspired flavor.

You play as Azami Fukurai, a young woman with clairvoyance powers to see ghostly images of the past through her glasses. At the beginning of the game, she gets awkwardly roped into working for the titular organization (long story short: she breaks a cursed chair and has to repay the damages), pairing her with Jasmine, who drives her around and helps her with the more mundane aspects of the investigation. Running the center is Ayumu Meguriya, a psychic who runs operations...

It's official: Sarah Michelle Gellar is developing a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran from 1997 to 2003 and had an important role in shaping the tone of The WB network, which later became The CW. Fans loved Buffy for its quick wit, high stakes (I swear no pun was intended), splashy action and deep characters. Recently, reports have been going around that the series could get a revival on Hulu. Now, original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar, Buffy Summers herself, has confirmed that she is indeed working on one. From her Instagram Stories:

So… you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you haven’t heard from me.

Three years ago, I got a call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman. She told me that she wanted me to sit down with Chloé Zhao to hear her take on a potential ‘Buffy’ revival. I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but,...

‘The Rookie’: Mekia Cox Breaks Down Nyla’s Killer Cat-and-Mouse Game: ‘She’s Almost Flirty With Him’
Image
Note: The following story contains sppilers from “The Rookie” Season 7, Episode 5.

It sure didn’t take time for Detective Harper to find her footing after her traumatic serial killer scare in the fourth episode of “The Rookie” Season 7, which left the seasoned detective temporarily paralyzed and truly rattled for the first time in a long time.

But the fifth episode of Season 7, titled “Til Death,” found Nyla back on her game in a big way, doggedly pursuing the serial killer, and embracing some of her undercover training to charm and disarm her suspect.

“I think what’s kind of fun is that she comes in and she’s almost flirty with him,” Cox told TheWrap of the cat-and-mouse dynamic between Nyla and her suspect. “Fringe” and “Big Sky” actor Seth Gabel steps in as the vending machine supplier, Glasser, who catches Nyla’s eye as the prime suspect during her investigation.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot with Sarah Michelle Gellar close to happening
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer concluded in 2003 after seven seasons on the air, and remains a beloved and influential show to this day. There's been talk over the years of rebooting Buffy, with original series creator Joss Whedon working with showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen on a new show a while back. But that idea fizzled out a couple of years ago, probably because Whedon was accused of toxic behavior on his sets and has since been excommunicated from Hollywood.

But lately there have been signs of something stirring, with original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar coming around to the idea of a revival. “I always used to say no because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” she said last month. "But watching [recent reboot shows] Sex And The City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”

She may...

Image
In every generation, there is a chosen one — again.

Variety has learned from sources that a sequel series to the beloved show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is nearing a pilot order at Hulu.

Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series.

Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce via Suite B, while Dolly Parton will executive produce via Sandollar. 20th Television and Searchlight Television will produce. Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton were all executive producers on the original “Buffy” series.

Why Rachel Garrett From Star Trek: Section 31 Looks So Familiar
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Section 31."

It's been a while since "Star Trek" fans have gotten a new movie, and even longer since we've gotten a movie that doubles as an introduction to a new slate of characters. "Star Trek: Section 31" is full of surprises, from its surprisingly light tone to its subversive use of pre-existing cultural lore from the "Star Trek" universe. (A non-celibate Deltan! A laughing Vulcan!) One of its biggest surprises, though, is that despite having been refashioned from a TV show to a TV movie, "Star Trek: Section 31" signs off as if its newbies are going to stick around.

Given the final tease that sees the Section 31 team take on a new assignment from Control (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), this may not be the last we see of Chameloid Quasi (Sam Richardson), Augment Alok (Omari Hardwick), Deltan Melle (Humberly Gonzalez...

“I thought it was going to be a very different thing”: Anna Torv Was Relieved ‘The Last of Us’ Didn’t Make Her Do the Most Disgusting Scene in the Series
Image
HBO’s The Last of Us is one of those rare video game adaptations that worked almost as well as its source material. Based on the incredible games by Naughty Dog, the show starred Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as the leads, going on a cross-country adventure in a zombie-infested apocalyptic world.

Anna Torv’s Tess is one of the most memorable among the many guest stars who appear in each episode. Her relationship with Joel at the beginning of the series and her ultimate sacrifice are endearing and heartbreaking. However, she is involved in one of the most disgusting scenes in the show, but thankfully, Torv did not have to perform it for real.

Anna Torv thought her ‘kiss’ scene in The Last of Us was going to be much more gross Pedro Pascal in The Last of Us | Credits: HBO

The Last of Us has many harrowing deaths in each episode.
