Much like “Hannibal,” it’s difficult to believe a show as spooky and complex as “Evil” ever aired on network television. But as the horror series about an unlikely trio investigating reports of demonic incidents for the Catholic Church debuts its entertaining final season on Paramount+, where the Robert and Michelle King-created series moved in Season 2, it’s also hard to believe the show exists anywhere, as it remains wholly unlike anything else on TV.
In Season 4, the first episode of which is now streaming, the series continues to balance its unique cases of the week with storylines involving overarching mythology, all while engaging with and exploring the personal beliefs and fears of Kristen (Katja Herbers), David (Mike Colter) and Ben (Aasif Mandvi). And then there’s that little issue of the antichrist and the fact it’s Kristen’s biological child. All of these things come together nicely...

Every parent will tell you time really does fly. As the cliche goes, one minute they are in diapers; the next, they are asking to borrow your car keys.
For its fourth season, the Apple TV+ series Trying leans into that adage. When viewers last left Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall), they formally adopted their two foster children Princess, age 10, and her brother Tyler, age six.
But when Trying returns for a fourth season on May 22, the series leaps forward six years. Princess (Scarlett Rayner) is now a 16-year-old teenager learning to drive and very curious about her birth mother. Tyler (Cooper Turner), now 12, is struggling to find friends and fit in. Nikki’s uptight sister Karen (Sian Brooke) discovered she was pregnant in the third season finale. Now that baby is six years old.

Created by Andy Wolton, the Apple TV+ original series stars Rafe Spall and Esther Smith as Jason and Nikki, an adorable couple in their mid-thirties who have been having difficulties getting pregnant. The series shows us one of the most beautiful love stories with the help of a brilliant cast who really turn on the charm and bring love with every word they say on screen. So, if you love the relationship of Nikki and Jason and their desire to be good parents in Trying here are some similar shows you could watch next.

Apple TV+‘s sweetest family comedy Trying is coming back with a bit of a time jump as parents Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) deal with the growing pains of teen children. After officially adopting Princess and Tyler in Season 3—which saw the couple finally tie the knot—Nikki and Jason are six years into their marriage and parenting journey. And while their close-knit unit is solid, lingering questions direct them and their kids down some adventurous paths in Season 4. “We are six years ahead, which is quite a rare time jump in television in the comedic world,” Spall tells TV Insider. “And Princess is now a teenager and our son, Tyler, is 11. And obviously, having a teenager and kids at that age presents a lot of challenges in conventional families.” Both Princess and Tyler are played by new older actors, Scarlett Rayner and Cooper Turner. Some shows are big cultural hits and juggernauts, and some quietly go on season after season; maybe not a huge critical giant, but there are enough ardent fans to justify their existence. And that’s probably where Apple TV+’s “Trying,” a heartwarming British comedy television series created by Andy Wolton (“The Amazing World of Gumball”), lands; it has its fans, and it keeps successfully chugging along, though to be fair, it does have its U.K.

One of Apple TV+‘s sweetest treats returns to television this spring as Trying continues with a fourth season on the streamer beginning Wednesday, May 22. When last we saw Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) in the Apple TV+ comedy series “Trying,” the couple was trying to pull off a reverse shotgun wedding — well, sort of. The long-term partners decided they finally wanted to get married, but rather than get hitched before people knew they were pregnant, they wanted to tie the knot before their kids were taken away from them. Luckily, Nikki and Jason won their court case against their adopted children’s biological grandmother, and with that out of the way, all their worries were over.
Ok, not quite. “Trying” takes a warts-and-all approach to parenthood (if not life in general), so there will always be concerns, big and small, for the family to deal with — the key is sticking together, no matter how trying things get. Season 4 brings a fresh set of family matters, as the story jumps six years into...

It’s rare to find a truly endearing comedy that deals well with the nuances of parenting and deftly handles dramatic moments in a compelling way. I’d argue there are two vastly underappreciated such shows, Trying from Apple TV+ and Breeders from FX. The former was renewed for a fourth season almost a year ago, and the fourth and final season of the latter is officially here. If you haven’t seen either, now is the time to check them out, and I would highly recommend starting with the lovely Breeders, which you can find on Hulu.

The theatrical requirements for movies vying for the Oscars top prize are getting a little tougher.
Starting with the 97th Academy Awards in 2025, best picture hopefuls will have to spend more time in theaters to qualify for film’s top prize. The changes, announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this week, come after three years of adjusted release standards due to the pandemic.
On top of the current one week “qualifying run” in one of six U.S cities — New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco or Miami — best picture contenders would now must also now play for an additional seven days in 10 of the top 50 U.S. markets. Additionally, there’s several other new rules about when the movies must play in theaters.

“The English” is hoping for a successful Emmys season coming up, with the show on the precipice for a Best Limited Series bid as well as a Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actor nomination for Chaske Spencer, while Emily Blunt is odds-on to be cited in the lead actress category. But they may be joined by the ever-reliable supporting player Rafe Spall, who emerged from Amazon Prime Video’s sweeping western series as one of the best things about it — if not the best.

The series also stars Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Jaren Lewison, Darren Barnet, Lee Rodriguez, Ramona Young, and Jeff Garlin.

Crime dramas are rarely revolutionary – we often watch them because they’re comfortingly formulaic – but every so often you get a gem that changes the game. We saw it with Line of Duty, Happy Valley, and Luther – and now Blue Lights is here to make you sit up, stop scrolling and get invested.
What the detectives from the above shows all have in common is experience, but Blue Lights focusses on three fresh-faced officers on probation in Belfast, Northern Ireland’s most dangerous city. Annie (Katherine Devlin) is scrappy and impetuous, Tommy (Nathan Braniff) is bookish and a terrible shot, and Grace (played by Trying’s Sian Brooke) is naively optimistic about making a difference despite having joined the force in her forties after a career as a social worker.
