With its impressive stunt scenes, pimped cars and groomed cops, Netflix’s “Lost Bullet” marks a big departure from the typical French thriller with run-down cops on the verge of depression or retirement.
Sara May, a Quebec-born executive who joined Netflix in 2018, has been a driving force behind a new wave of French action thrillers such as the “Lost Bullet” franchise that have been global hits on the streamer.
Released two weeks ago on the platform, the second opus of “Lost Bullet” currently ranks as the most-watched non-English language movie on Netflix, and it’s also in the top 10 across 80 countries. “Ticket to Paradise” nearly swept the VOD charts this week, falling short only at Google Play. The Julia Roberts-George Clooney rom-com success, heading to a domestic theatrical gross of perhaps 75 million, hewed to the studio’s standard plan of home release after three weekends. It’s still thriving in theaters, taking #3 for the weekend, providing more evidence that theatrical play elevates films for home play. The increased marketing might even help theatrical.
Theatrical success also was key for Netflix’s new #1. “Where the Crawdads Sing.” Sony’s very successful adaptation of Delia Reese’s best seller opened mid-July with a domestic 90 million total. Theaters can’t live by comic book and other franchises alone; they need a resurgence of standalone successes in other genres. “Ticket” and “Crawdads” are also the kinds of projects that top streamers want to corral, with limited or no theatrical footprint.

"What do you want?" "For him to pay!" Netflix has launched the full-length official trailer for Lost Bullet 2: Back for More, a "high octane" sequel to the French film Lost Bullet from 2020. That one has been on Netflix since 2020 and is one of the underrated gems that is worth a watch if you enjoy action movies. Lino is a car savant-turned-police officer with a need for speed. Determined to find the murderers of his brother and his mentor, Lino continues his hunt and won't let anyone – or anything – get in his way. Lost Bullet 2 is the exciting sequel to the 2020 French action thriller that "wastes nothing in its quest to deliver the goods." Starring Alban Lenoir, Diego Martín, Pascale Arbillot, and Stéfi Celma. This looks dope!! It doesn't seem as polished as the Fast & Furious films, but does have that same energetic streets-on-fire vibe. Enjoy. ›››

The Action Scene is a column exploring the construction of action set pieces, but it also considers “scene” in the sense of field or area: “action” as a genre and mode that spans different cultures and historical periods. By examining these two levels in tandem—one oriented toward aesthetic expression, the other toward broader contexts and concepts—this series aims to deepen appreciation for and spark discussion about action cinema.Above: Lost BulletWith 2020 behind us, we’ve rounded up some of the year's best action scenes. Although the pandemic-related delays to several would-be high-profile action releases invited worry that the year's genre pickings would be slim, such concerns turned out to be misplaced. If anything, the relative absence of blockbusters left more room for less “mainstream” fare to enter the conversation, which is precisely what this piece aims to facilitate. Structurally, this article approximates my best-of-the-decade roundup from 2019. The caveats...

Netflix has revealed its most popular non-English language films and TV series in the U.S., with the list containing an interesting mix of titles from Europe, Asia and South America, plus a few surprises.
Spanish-language genre pic The Platform, set in a nightmarish vertical-style prison, tops the list of most-watched movies after being released in March this year, when lockdowns first hit America. Netflix does not tend to reveal specific viewing statistics, and these charts do not include solid numbers, but the company did previously note this one was watched by 56 million households in its first four weeks of release, making the title one of its most watched original movies ever.

Netflix has revealed some color about its subscribers’ viewing habits during 2020.
The streamer saw foreign-language dramas such as Spain’s The Platform and Germany’s Barbarians boom, romance titles doubled in popularity and action titles such as Extraction and Cobra Kai flexed their muscles over the last twelves.
Some of the most interesting data provided by Netflix as part of its What We Watched 2020 report was around the pandemic and civil unrest over the summer. In March, as Covid-19 was starting to ravage the world outside of China, viewers were searching for home baking shows with almost a 50% rise from the previous month – a boon for the likes of Nailed It! and The Great British Bake Off.
The following month, searches for sad movies spiked nearly 30%, while subscribers were also calling out for stand-up shows between March and April. October was our biggest month for comedy viewing generally. Hubie Halloween,...

US viewers consumed 50% more foreign-language content in 2020, with The Platform from Spain, Barbarians from Germany and Rogue City from France the most popular choices.
While the streaming service provided no hard data on viewership of individual films and shows in its What We Watched 2020 briefing released on Thursday (December 10), the information at least offered guidance on trends.
K-drama viewing almost tripled in viewership compared to 2019 with Kingdom S2 and The King: Eternal Monarch proving the most popular, while consumption of anime doubled in the US led by Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution and Blood Of Zeus.

As the current pandemic takes yet another boring turn, so far as self-isolation at home is concerned, Netflix is continuing to add a ton of new content on an almost daily basis.
Now that distancing laws have effectively brought our social lives to a halt, binging through the content found on streaming platforms seems like an inevitable form of entertainment to turn to these days. As such, Netflix has repeatedly come out on top and vanquished the competition with its rich library of TV shows and movies. As if that weren’t enough, the company continues to provide and meet the demand of its stupendous userbase with tons of new titles. But which ones are the most popular?

After launching in France in 2014 with rather disappointing numbers, Netflix has since become a major contender, with nearly 7 million subscribers at the start of the year and probably many more after a lengthy Covid lockdown this past spring.

After only adding one new program on Saturday, Netflix have released two new movies and one new TV series today. In a week where the streaming platform continues to add a diverse range of content, today we received the films Goldie and Woodshock, as well as season 1 of Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, joining K-drama It’s Okay to Not be Okay‘s premiere yesterday.
For those unfamiliar, Woodshock is an A24 title starring Kirsten Dunst as a woman who begins experiencing strange hallucinations after taking a powerful drug. Most of the action revolves around Dunst’s character Theresa taking poison-laced joints that, rather than killing her, put her in an increasingly fragile mental state that turns fantastical. While Woodshock divided critics upon its 2017 release, it looks to be worth checking out.

Netflix Originals are some of the service’s most successful content, and immensely popular shows like Money Heist, Stranger Things and Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness have brought in record viewer numbers. While not every new original release is quite so beloved, the sheer amount of them ensures that the streaming platform always has something for fans of nearly every genre. As a matter of fact, Netflix’s Top 10 list is being dominated today by four very different Netflix Originals, and some of them are high-quality content that you’re not going to want to miss.

It’s finally the weekend and that means it’s time to dig into some new content. That’s right. No matter what your preferred streaming service is, there are a number of new movies/TV shows coming down the pipeline over the next few days.
Be it Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, or Showtime and Starz, each platform is offering a nice selection of titles this weekend. Admittedly, it’s not the meatiest time for new content that we’ve had, as the last few weeks of any given month tend to slow down a bit for fresh releases, but there’s still enough here worth getting excited about.
So, let’s dive in, shall we?

Don’t know what to do with your life today? Well, you can always watch Netflix, as they’ve added a bunch of new content to their collection, just in time for the weekend.
First up is a drama called Feel the Beat. Produced in 2020 and directed by Elissa Down, it tells the story of a dancer who, after failing to make a career for herself on Broadway, returns to her hometown to teach young kids instead – a job which, though devoid of glitter and glamour, is actually a lot more meaningful than she dared hope. Kind of like School of Rock, but with dance – and without Jack Black.
Up next we have a comedy series called Floor Is Lava. Have you ever seen the Community episode in which they play this children’s game? If you enjoy watching adults act like little toddlers, this reality series may be for you.

Leading off the lineup are the debut of “Da 5 Bloods,” a film by Oscar winner Spike Lee about four Vietnam vets revisiting their past, and the second season of Ryan Murphy‘s satire “The Politician.” And just in time for Pride is season 5 of “Queer Eye.”
The documentary slate is filled with such varied films as “Spelling the Dream” about the Scripps National Spelling Bee, “Lenox Hill” about the staff of the famed New York hospital, and “Athlete A” about the sexually abuse scandal that rocked the Us gymnastics team
