Billy Zane
Waltzing with Brando trailer stars Billy Zane as the iconic actor wanting to live on a secluded island
Billy Zane
Billy Zane has displayed an uncanny resemblance to Marlon Brando, going all the way back to Dead Calm, where he looked like him in his On the Waterfront days. Zane is now able to capitalize on doppleganging the star of The Godfather and Apocalypse Now in Waltzing with Brando. Zane was first cast as Marlon Brando all the way back in 2019 – and things have been pretty much silent for the bulk of the five years that followed. The movie hit the Cannes market and now, Vmi Worldwide has released the first trailer.

Billy Zane’s Marlon Brando is from a pivotal era in the legendary actor’s career, with Waltzing with Brando taking place in the late ‘60s into the early ‘70s, when his work shifted dramatically and he reinvented himself. Appropriately, Zane has entirely reinvented his look to portray Brando. Photos made available courtesy of Deadline fresh out of...

“I’m not gonna read for you guys”: One Legendary Actor Wasn’t Even Ready to Audition for Donnie Brasco Until He Met Al Pacino
Image
Al Pacino is known for his gangster roles in films such as The Godfather trilogy, but the actor played against type in the film Donnie Brasco. Co-starring with Johnny Depp in the titular role, Pacino starred as Lefty Ruggiero, a mafia enforcer of a crime family in New York, and garnered universal acclaim.

While the lead cast had two legends, the supporting roles too were played by stalwart actors. Michael Madsen, who was known for his role as Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs, played Sonny Black in the film. He reportedly refused to audition for the role and only went for it after meeting Al Pacino.

Hugh Jackman Reveals Hilarious Method for Remembering Lines in Deadpool & Wolverine Blooper Clip
Image
Hugh Jackman's performance as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine has been praised by fans as one of the actor's best, and it might be because he used the Marlon Brando method. While Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) quips his way through the movie, a depressed, alcoholic variant of Wolverine carries the film's emotional weight. Jackman delivers some of the movie's most hard-hitting lines. But, according to a playful video released by Ryan Reynolds, the Australian actor needed some help remembering what they were.

Reynolds released a hilarious behind-the-scenes video on Instagram (which you can check out below) of himself and Hugh Jackman filming a scene from the movie. The fake blooper shows Jackman taking several attempts at the line, "I'm the best there is at what I do. But what I do isn't very nice." After Jackman delivers the line successfully, the camera cuts to Deadpool's coverage, showing the character wearing a...

How Had I Never Seen..."The Wild One" (1953)?
Image
by Cláudio Alves

Today marks the Marlon Brando centennial, and what better way to celebrate than to explore the actor's filmography? In my case, I decided to plunge into one of those iconic pictures that, for some reason, had never crossed my path till today. It's 1953's The Wild One, the prototypical biker film from which many more sprung forth, a crystallization of midcentury rebellion as understood by Hollywood's paramount moralist, Stanley Kramer. He produced it as one of his social issue flicks, taking inspiration from a Harper's Magazine story that was, in itself, based on a series of events that took place in Hollister, California, 1947. Brando plays Johnny Strabler, leader of the Black Rebels Motorcycle Club…...

Son to actor James Brolin, actor Josh Brolin gained recognition for his work in 1985’s The Goonies and was highly appreciated for his work. The actor had a resurgence with starring in 2007’s No Country for Old Men, and later, his portrayal in 2008’s Milk went ahead to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Josh Brolin as Cable in Deadpool 2

The audience and critics highly appreciated the actor for his exceptional work as Thanos in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Josh Brolin recently reprised his role as Gurney Halleck; former military leader of House Atreides and Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides’ mentor in Denis Villeneuves Dune: Part Two. The actor opened up about the failures he faced in the industry and about that one movie that saved him.

Martin Scorsese's Favorite John Wayne Western (& How It Inspired His Movies)
Image
Martin Scorsese considers John Wayne's The Searchers to be the best Western ever made, describing it as a masterpiece with a deeply painful core. The Searchers has had a significant influence on Scorsese's movies, inspiring scenes and characters in films like Taxi Driver and Mean Streets. The Searchers is also a favorite among the "movie brats," a group of influential directors including Spielberg and Lucas, who cited it as a major influence.

Martin Scorsese's favorite Western starring John Wayne has had a big influence on his career. Scorsese hasn't made his passion for cinema or filmmaking a secret, and he is essentially a living archive of the medium's history. He loves everything from the trashiest B-movie to the most highbrow drama, which is something that's reflected in Martin Scorsese's own movies. He has helmed everything from gangster epics to psychological horrors to biopics and everything in between.

‘Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning’ – The Unexpected Psychological Horror of a Bold Franchise Sequel
Image
These days, most audiences are aware that the law of diminishing returns also applies to movie franchises. That’s why numbered sequels are usually frowned upon when it comes to new releases in established IPs, with producers preferring it when moviegoers forget exactly how many of these rehashed films they’ve seen before. And as a series goes on, it becomes increasingly more difficult for franchises to experiment with their source material, leading to stale experiences and disappointed fans.

Thankfully, there are a handful of exceptions to this rule, and I’d argue that the most surprising of all would be the Universal Soldier franchise. In all honesty, I don’t even think the original 1992 film is all that great, benefiting from the natural charisma of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren while riding on the coat-tails of an intriguing premise (where deceased soldiers are revived as cybernetic zombies with...

As Johnny Depp Takes Cannes, Hollywood Says It’s Ready for His Comeback
Image
Johnny Depp has played Cannes many times, with four of his films in Competition: “Dead Man” and “Ed Wood” (both 1995), “The Brave,” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” (1998), but he’s never had this much at stake on the Croisette. As the randy King Louis Xv, powdered and wigged in the opening-night Out of Competition selection “Jeanne du Barry,” Depp will begin his latest effort at career rehab.

Depp, who will be 60 in a few weeks, is well past his movie-star prime and remains in recovery from a string of court cases. Depp lost his “wife-beater” U.K. libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard in 2020, but last June he won $10 million in compensatory damages in a U.S. court. Warner Bros. paid his $16 million fee for the third “Fantastic Beasts” film, but asked him to resign from playing the role of Grindelwald in the Harry Potter franchise. (Mads Mikkelsen replaced him.

Harry Styles and Florence Pugh in Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Don’t Worry Darling: Harry Styles’ performance branded ‘leaden’ and ‘robotic’ by critics
Harry Styles and Florence Pugh in Don't Worry Darling (2022)
The reviews are in for Don’t Worry Darling – and Harry Styles might want to look away.

The critical reception for Olivia Wilde’s upcoming sci-fi thriller, which stars Styles opposite Florence Pugh, has ranged from middling to poor, while the social media frenzy surrounding it has been captivating.

However, reporters have heaped praise on Pugh for her turn as Alice, a “1950s housewife living with her husband [Styles] in a utopian experimental community”.

While Pugh’s performance has been lauded, Styles’ performance as Jack has been labelled everything from “robotic” to “wooden”.

“Styles lacks charisma,” Geoffrey Macnab writes for The Independent in his three-star review.

“Jack is a one-dimensional figure, and the One Direction star fails to give him any hidden depth. Pugh is easily the film’s most vivid and compelling personality. She plays Alice in such fiery fashion that most other characters seem robotic by comparison.”

Macnab’s sentiment...

Academy apologizes to Sacheen Littlefeather over ’73 controversy
Image
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has issued a formal apology to Sacheen Littlefeather, who went down in Oscar notoriety five decades ago for refusing Marlon Brando’s The Godfather Best Actor award on his behalf.

The abuse you endured because of this statement was unwarranted and unjustified…The emotional burden you have lived through and the cost to your own career in our industry are irreparable. For too long the courage you showed has been unacknowledged. For this, we offer both our deepest apologies and our sincere admiration.”

Littlefeather, whose real name is Marie Louise Cruz, responded in tongue-in-cheek fashion: “We Indians are very patient people — it’s only been 50 years!” She added, sincerely, “It is profoundly heartening to see how much has changed.” Littlefeather, clearly putting the grudge behind her, is scheduled to appear at the newly opened Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

The incident, sparked...

On His Birthday, Taking The Measure Of Brando
"I admire Marlon's talent, but I don't envy the pain that created it." -Anthony Quinn In the wake of this iconic actor's death nearly five years ago, the prevailing sentiment was that Marlon Brando, who would have turned 85 last week, was a remote, tortured man who squandered his prodigious talent for easy money. Some critics at the time sounded downright miffed, as if...

Brando Memorabilia Stolen At Auction Party
Brando (2007)
A replica of Marlon Brando's leather jacket from 1953 movie The Wild One has been stolen from a party in New York at the weekend (2-4Apr08).

The $3,000 (GBP1,500) Schott design was on show at the bash, which celebrated Andy Warhol's famous silkscreen of the star - called The Double Marlon.

The party was attended by celebrity guests including Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter Rumer Willis, and British model Agyness Deyn.

A partygoer tells the New York Post, "Security stopped people at the elevators in search of the jacket, but it was never found."...
