Image
Exclusive: Oscar-nominated screenwriters Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson have signed on to pen the screenplay for Skyway, a WW2 action-drama based on the true story of Captain Moon Chin – an unsung Asian American hero of the “Hump” airlift mission, the most perilous aviation route of World War 2.

Their other credits also include Patriots Day, The Outpost, and most recently The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Relativity Media Plots Return, Aims To Jumpstart Growth With Content Partners Investment
Image
Content Partners Capital, the newly launched private capital division of Content Partners, and Relativity Media have closed a strategic growth financing, a move they say marks a major step in Cpc’s mission to offer “bespoke capital solutions to entertainment and media businesses” while supporting the transformation of a well-known Hollywood name.

Cpc’s first investment will bolster Relativity Media’s capital base for acquiring new films for theatrical distribution and help it expand its film and television library, acquire IP and build out its independent film and TV slate. The size of the investment wasn’t disclosed.

CEO Lex Miron said Relativity intends to spend approximately $100 million acquiring domestic film rights over the next three to five years. The plans is to release 4-6 projects within the next year, and 7-10 projects within the next two years.

“This transaction exemplifies our core thesis at Content Partners Capital — to back...

Relativity Media Wants to Be a Player Again
Image
The Relativity Media banner may conjure memories of the Ryan Kavanaugh era. There was that data-driven formula to “predict” box office success and minimize risk, the highs of hits like Bridesmaids and Mamma Mia!, the lows of the likes of Masterminds, the nine-figure financing rounds and ultimately the bankruptcy filings. (The Kavanaugh quote “Am I sorry? Of course I am,” once graced the cover of The Hollywood Reporter as the company crumbled ten years ago.)

Since Relativity Media emerged from bankruptcy in 2018 it hasn’t been affiliated with Kavanaugh and has kept a lower profile than its heyday. Its ownership group is titled UltraV Holdings LLC and includes former Bally Technologies chief David Robbins, Miron and funds managed by CEO Stephen Ketchum’s Sound Point Capital.

Relativity started its latest chapter with U.S. rights to Angelina Jolie and David Oyelowo-starrer Come Away in 2020. This was the Covid year of shuttered theaters,...

Jenna Ortega & Robert De Niro Will Play Pool Hustlers In New Movie From Oscar-Nominated Director
Image
Jenna Ortega and Robert De Niro will star in Shutout, a new movie from David O. Russell. 2022 marked a game-changing year for Ortega. She starred in X that year, in addition to co-leading Scream (2022) opposite Melissa Barerra. That was also the year in which she debuted as the star of Netflix's Wednesday, which then paved the way for a role in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice(2024). De Niro, on the other hand, a screen veteran, is coming off of projects like Zero Day (2025) and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023).

Per Variety, Ortega and De Niro will lead the cast of Shutout, a new movie that explores the world of pool hustling. The Oscar-nominated Russell will direct and produce the film, which features a script by Alejandro Adams. Black Bear is set to launch sales of the movie at the Cannes Film Market later this month. 15 Actors Who Hated Working With Their Directors
Image
Like any workplace, tensions can get pretty high on Hollywood sets. Actors and crew members are often working long hours day after day to create something that is the singular vision of one person: the director. When that vision isn't clear enough for everyone to see, or that director is maybe not a healthy collaborator, things can come to a head very quickly. That's why there's a stereotype of directors being very controlling, argumentative, and narcissistic, given that, in the case of most studio films, there's a lot of responsibility on their shoulders to make a good film.

We've all heard stories about famous actors who refuse to work with each other, despite the on-screen chemistry their characters displayed. However, fewer people know the dirty details about actors who hated working with certain directors, whether it be a matter of personalities clashing, actors not being invested in the project, or...

Christian Bale’s Real-Life Magic In ‘Ford v Ferrari’
James Mangold in Logan (2017)
Image Source: 20th Century Studios One of the most discussed contenders during the 2019 awards season was the compelling sports biography, Ford v Ferrari. The film, which had four Academy Award nominations including the coveted Best Picture, attracted greatly attention. Under the capable James Mangold and with the star power of two Academy Award winners – Christian Bale, portraying the tenacious race car driver Ken Miles, and Matt Damon, embodying the visionary former driver and automotive designer Carroll Shelby – the stage was set for a compelling cinematic experience. Mostly because of the strong core performances, Ford v Ferrari enthralls fresh viewers even years after its original release. A testament to its continuing brilliance, the movie has an amazing 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Particularly for his subtle interpretation of a real-life character, Christian Bale earned a lot of praise. Bale had previously won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his gripping...

Bonnie Aarons Reprised Nightmarish ‘Mulholland Drive’ Role on John Mulaney’s Netflix Show!
Annabelle Creation Premier
Horror fans have become well acquainted with Bonnie Aarons in recent years thanks to her role as Valak the demonic nun in Conjuring Universe spinoffs The Nun and The Nun II, but what you might not realize is that Aarons was invading your nightmares long before that.

Remember the nightmarish “Bum” from David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive? Many consider the character’s brief jump-scare appearance to be one cinema’s most genuinely terrifying moments; back in 2015, Indiewire named the shocking appearance of the filthy vagrant one of the 40 Scariest Movie Moments of all Time, coming in at a respectable #10.

Yes, it was Bonnie Aarons who played the Bum before becoming the Nun!

Elsewhere in the film world, Aarons made her feature debut in 1994’s Exit to Eden as “The Prostitute,” subsequently appearing in films such as Dear God, Shallow Hal, Wristcutters: A Love Story, I Know Who Killed Me, Hell Ride,...

When Christian Bale Said Heath Ledger’s Joker “Ruined” His Plans In The Dark Knight Because Of This Reason
Image
Why Did Christian Bale Say Heath Ledger’s Joker Ruined His Plans? ( Photo Credit – Facebook )

Christian Bale played Batman in what many fans called the gold standard of superhero cinema. But while the world raved about The Dark Knight, Bale quietly walked away feeling like his own performance missed the mark. And the reason? Heath Ledger.

In a surprisingly candid throwback interview with Yahoo!, Bale admitted, “I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would. Chris did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.’ Heath turned up and just kind of completely ruined all my plans. Because I went, ‘He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.” That line said with a touch of admiration, captured the shockwave Ledger’s Joker sent through Gotham and the film itself.

When The Dark Knight hit theaters in 2008, it exploded past the comic book mold.

Ever since Rocky took the world by storm in 1976, people have been enamored with the idea of an underdog fighting his way to victory. Watch Shia Labeouf Spar with Star Toby Kebbell in New Film 'Salvable'
Image
Whatever you think about Shia Labeouf, his intensity and commitment is unquestionable, and he's not afraid to be outspoken. Labeouf's interesting career path was diverted among a variety of scandals and allegations, and you could hardly call it a comeback when he returned in 2023 with the film Padre Pio. Which is a shame, because he gives a great performance, and Abel Ferrara always creates fascinating films. It was perhaps just too niche a movie to give the former Transformers star the spotlight again. That likely won't change with his next movie, Salvable, which recently released its first trailer. You can watch the trailer for the film, also starring Toby Kebbell, below:

The synopsis for Salvable reads as follows:

"Shia Labeouf and Toby Kebbell star in an emotional, action-packed film about a prize fighter’s battles both inside and outside the ring. When a battered boxer past his prime finds his...

George Foreman, Boxer Turned Foreman Grill Infomercial Star, Dies at 76

George Foreman, the charismatic boxer turned infomercial star who had a retail hit with his Foreman Grill product line, died Friday. He was 76.

The Texas-born Foreman became Heavyweight Champion of the World, and segued into a TV staple and pop culture icon. He was swept up in the swirl of decade-defining events surrounding Muhammad Ali as well as Joe Frazier and other high-wattage pugilists of the 1970s. In the 1990s, Foreman took advantage of the availablity of low-cost TV time to launch his Foreman Grill home grill product through a series of infomercials that he hosted.

As the industry encounters a wave of diversity, equity and inclusion rollbacks, Amy Adams, filmmaker Karyn Kusama and Telluride Film Festival executive director Julie Huntsinger are booked to discuss representation in front of the next generation.

The trio will participate in a student-led Q&a panel as part of the Archer Film Festival at the Writers Guild Theater in Los Angeles on April 11. Why Christian Bale Refused To Play James Bond
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

There are certain roles that can change the course of an actor's life. Few of them are quite as big as that of James Bond. The iconic MI6 spy has been a staple of cinema for more than 60 years, dating back to Sean Connery's debut as 007 in "Dr. No." Every actor, save for George Lazenby, has been catapulted to another level of stardom due to their involvement in the "James Bond" franchise. As a result, it's tough to imagine an up-and-coming actor turning the role down. Yet, that's exactly what Christian Bale did.

In the early 2000s, Bale was very much one of Hollywood's most promising stars. From "American Psycho" to "The Machinist," the actor was earning high praise for his deep commitment to various roles. That's probably why the "James Bond" producers, namely Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson,...

15 Best Boxing Movies Of All Time, Ranked
Image
For whatever reason, boxing plays better on the big screen than in real life. Perhaps it is the cinematic spectacle of watching two people square off in a boxing ring surrounded by rabid fans, or maybe it's the rush of watching a hero exorcise their demons while battling a seemingly superior foe, or perhaps we're all just suckers for fantastic workout montages set to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger." At any rate, movies about boxing tend to hit harder than other sports dramas, literally and figuratively, producing classic underdog stories that stand the test of time.

You don't have to enjoy boxing to get a kick out of "Rocky" or know the difference between an uppercut and a hook to stand and cheer for "The Fighter." Need proof? Check out this terrific list of the 15 best boxing movies of all time, ranked, and try to find one that doesn't get your juices flowing.

When Mike Tyson and Jake Paul announced that the duo would be going face-to-face in one of the most celebrated boxing matches of the year, fans of the 58-year-old legend went crazy. After all, this would be the chance to witness the maestro in action again.

While the result must have been a little anti-climactic (and it is slightly debatable how real the fight was), fans of the former Boxer know really well that this won’t be what defines Tyson. It is his tenacity and the spirit of never giving up that make Tyson the man he is. And they have (and will continue to) inspire people over the years.

Christian Bale's 19-Year-Old War Movie With 90% on Rotten Tomatoes Lands on Prime Video
Image
Rescue Dawn was a dramatized adaptation of Little Dieter Needs to Fly, Werner Herzog's 1997 documentary. Both films depicted one prisoner of war's harrowing experience after being caught behind enemy territory.

Prime Video is now streaming Rescue Dawn, Werner Herzog's 2006 epic war drama. Based on the true story of German-American pilot Dieter Dengler (played by Christian Bale), the film depicted Dengler's ordeal after being captured in Laos during the Vietnam War. Herzog previously recounted Dengler's story in Little Dieter Needs to Fly, which detailed the suffering Dengler's fellow prisoners endured, including torture. These were depicted in Rescue Dawn but toned down for a PG rating. The sequences were shot in reverse order over 44 days, so Bale and his co-stars can gradually gain weight during filming.

From real to reel: 7 must-watch movies based on true docs
Image
When reality is stranger than fiction, Hollywood takes notice - these films prove it.

I caught “Last Breath” in theaters this weekend, and wow - what a ride. Beautifully shot, intense, and suspenseful - and incredibly, it’s all based on a true story. It follows a deep-sea diver who gets stranded 300 feet below the ocean with only minutes of air left… and the rescue mission to try and save his life. After the movie, I got to thinking about other great scripted movies that have associated documentaries. There are some incredible films out there that take real-life stories and turn them into gripping, cinematic experiences. So, here are my top 7 favorite scripted movies inspired by true-story documentaries.

Image
Quick LinksMark Wahlberg's Role and the Plot of 'The Substitute'Why Mark Wahlberg Avoided TV for the Movies

Mark Wahlberg is one of the few people who have successfully made the career jump from rapping to acting. The Hollywood A-lister has come a long way from his time as part of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Today, he's appeared in dozens of movies across a 30+ year acting career. He recently headlined the action-thriller flick Flight Risk. However, in that three-decade span, Wahlberg only had one role in a scripted television program. Believe it or not, it was his very first role.

Wahlberg's first credited appearance came with 1993's television film The Substitute. He played Ryan Westerberg, a student who encounters a substitute teacher with a dark side. While obscure today, the role was the launching pad for Wahlberg's eventual leading-man career status. But why has he never made a return to TV?...

“The Fighter” TV series review
Image
A scene from the Swedish TV mini-series “The Fighter.” Courtesy of MHz Choice

“The Fighter” (originally titled “Lea”) is a dark Swedish TV miniseries covering the ordeal of its eponymous boxer (Madeleine Martin) as she struggles to succeed in an environment in which her ring opponents are the least challenging obstacles to winning a championship. As the film opens, she’s in her first match after a two-year suspension for drug allegations that may have been unwarranted. Adrian (Joel Spira), her ex-hubby and father of their young son, is the sort of screw-up who is easy prey for the abundance of crime bosses who sully the sport. He’s in deep to Balthazar (Emil Almen), a vicious jerk who deals drugs, fixes fights and pounces on whatever sleazy opportunity may arise, supported by thugs to impose his will on the unwilling. Adrian’s problems are highly contagious.

Lea had been...

The 15 Best Actors Who Have Never Won An Oscar
Image
Every awards season, movie fans and aspiring pundits across the country become obsessed with the ever-coveted Academy Awards. The longstanding awards show has long been considered the holy grail of the film industry and can often feel like an all-encompassing part of the discourse, particularly around the four acting categories. In the lead-up to Oscar Sunday, many of us debate who will win, and once the ceremony comes and goes, there are still debates over who should have won.

Amidst this hubbub, it's important to remember that the Oscars are but a modicum of what represents the best performances in film. In fact, several of the best actors working today have never been given the honor of an Oscar despite years of treasured performances. The disparity between what Oscar voters love and what history remembers has always been a widening gap, but we can guarantee these 15 omissions from the winner's circle are particularly egregious.

A Steven Spielberg Movie Almost Made Christian Bale Quit, but His Most Unhinged Role Made Him Love the Job Again
Image
Christian Bale is literally built different when it comes to acting. With his crazy weight transformations, extreme dedication to his craft, and even his scary method acting, the star can jump between totally different roles like it’s nothing. But while he has delivered cult classic films like The Fighter and donned the brooding role of Batman, there was a time when he had almost quit.

Although Christian Bale is not known for taking the easy way out, one of Steven Spielberg’s films almost led the star to consider quitting Hollywood. Experiencing a tough time handling his Hollywood fame at 13, the World War II movie Empire of the Sun almost forced Bale into a hiatus. Thankfully his role as the cold-blooded sociopath in American Psycho made him fall in love with acting, all over again.

Christian Bale movies: 16 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Christian Bale is thought by many to have become an “actor’s actor.” He is fully committed to his characters, often staying in character during shooting, and he is not afraid to lose or gain weight in order to make a character more believable, as was the case with his Oscar-nominated role as former U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney in “Vice.”

Good reviews are something that Bale has gotten used to during his three-decade film career, beginning with his starring role in Steven Spielberg‘s “Empire of the Sun” when he was only 13 years old. In that time, Bale has been nominated for three Oscars (winning one for “The Fighter” with bids for “American Hustle” and “The Big Short”), three Golden Globes and five Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations of which he won two (for “The Fighter” and “American Hustle”). His 2022 films included “Amsterdam” for David O. Russell and “The Pale Blue Eye...

Commune With Mark Wahlberg in All His Religious Glory Next Month on Streaming
Image
Mark Wahlberg is notorious for playing bad boys. From the early years of his career in films like The Basketball Diaries and Boogie Nights to more recent ventures including Daddy’s Home and Uncharted, the actor’s insane workout regimen has certainly allowed him to put that toned physique to good use in his career. But, he’s also shown his deeper drama range in other movies, such as The Lovely Bones and The Fighter. Both of those worlds collided in 2022 when Wahlberg took on the leading role in the biographical drama, Father Stu. The story essentially follows a bad boy turned priest, a performance that Wahlberg was more than capable of. Also featuring performances from Mel Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Teresa Ruiz (Narcos: Mexico), Cody Fern (The Assasination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) and Aaron Moten (Fallout), the movie is preparing to bless audiences with its February 11 arrival on Max.

American Psycho Cast & Character Guide
Image
Christian Bale leads the American Psycho cast in an unforgettable role, but there are other familiar faces in the pitch-black satire. Released in 2000, the movie adapts Bret Easton Ellis's puzzling book, introducing the unconventional Patrick Bateman, a successful banking executive. Despite being rich and an influential businessman in New York City, Patrick decides to give in to dangerous instincts, consumed by an insatiable desire to kill. American Psycho is a sharp send-up of men's obsession with materialism as Patrick effectively represents the embodiment of toxic masculinity and male privilege.

American Psycho is one of the best movies set in the '80s, capturing a rich and vibrant Manhattan in contrast with Patrick's dark impulses. Bale cemented himself as one of the most interesting actors of the 21st century with his mix of dark intensity and goofy humor. The other characters in American Psycho add to the surreal nature of...
