Outstanding!!
PossumD1 November 2007
Outstanding. TV doesn't get much better than this. An absorbing and moving episode superbly acted by Jack Coleman and Hayden Panettiere. "Company Man" is one of the most revealing episode of Heroes where several more layers of the mysterious Mr Bennett are unravelled. The viewers start to get an idea about Mr Bennett's motives and see his transition from reluctant parent to the doting Father he became. The last few scenes between Jack Coleman and Hayden Panettiere are particularly moving. Jack Coleman is especially good and shows a more human side to the character. It's a mystery why he hasn't been nominated for a stack of acting awards. Great acting, writing and directing; the pick of season 1 in a must see drama.

It is not Marvel comics.

The last five minutes with Claire and Mr Bennet were really moving, I thought. Mr Bennet is only human to love his adopted child like his own. And Claire is only human to love and hate her known father. It was sad, though, I hope the end of the series would bring them back together as father and daughter. Most of the flashbacks were interesting too as it started to connect everyone. What makes this show so addicting is that the people are so ordinary but so special and it shows both aspects equally. It is not Marvel comics. After each show, it makes you want to believe that there are everyday people with special abilities indeed yet they are more human and are not immortals. Great show. Looking forward for more.

Company Man is one of the best episodes of Heroes
tavm2 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The last episode ended as the Bennet family was being held hostage by Matt and Ted. This one almost exclusively keeps the focus on them. During the whole hour, Matt reads the minds of Mr. Bennet and Claire and finds out most of their backstories as a result. As a result, Matt shoots Claire, who is indestructible, then he and HRG take her to her room to talk things over about revised plans that don't include Ted. They let Ted stay while they go to the paper factory Claire's dad works at to get the needle that reduces the power of Ted's fire making. Ted has the mother and son tied up after the son tries to hit Ted with a baseball bat. When Matt and HRG return, they give Ted all the info he wants temporarily distracting him while Claire unties her mom and brother. Ted's thirst for revenge overwhelms him, however, so he flames up to the point of burning the house. The father tries to inject Ted but is led out of the house by Matt as Claire takes the needle to do it herself. She comes out burned but alive as she slowly heals herself and gets embraced by her family. Much of this is witnessed by HRG's boss who now wants Claire in the "organization". Later on, HRG, Claire, and the Hatian man come to the bridge where, in a flashback, Mr. Bennet shot the invisible man and left thinking he died there. Now the Hatian man shoots Claire's dad below the fatal heart area and then wipes his mind. Claire cries and embraces her dad saying, "I love you"...Perhaps the best episode of the season so far with a more singular focus than we've been used to in the last few weeks. Fascinating use of black and white in the use of various flashbacks of the father's initial hiring and subsequent events of his adopting Claire from Hiro's dad (welcome return of George Takei with amusing depictions of young baby Claire-with her half smile-and an under 12, video game playing Hiro), his partnering with the teen-aged "mute" Hatian, getting assistance from his daughter in picking glasses, and the invisible man's shooting. Eric Roberts makes an appropriate creepy debut as HRG's boss. Great emotional performance from Hayden Panettiere. Next week should be just as, if not more, exciting. Until then...

Chapter Seventeen 'Company Man'
Prismark1017 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For sci fi fans this is an iconic episode in many ways.

You have flashbacks where Doctor Who meets the Master with Mr Sulu in the background.

It is a shock to see Claude Rains as a clean cut Company Man. He is teamed up with Mr Bennet by the mysterious Thompson (Eric Roberts.)

You also find out how Mr Bennet was given baby Claire to raise as his own by Hiro's father Kaito Nakamura but told she will always belong to the company. They will come for her if she ever displays any powers.

The reason why Mr Bennet has been so protective of Claire. Yet he shoots Claude when ordered to do so. Claude realised that he his hurting his own kind and betrays the Company.

The main thrust of the episode is Ted Sprague and Matt Parkman forcing their way into the Bennet's house to get the truth.

However Matt realises that Ted is unstable and he and Mr Bennet need to work together.

The episode concentrates on just a few characters. Yet so much background is filled by the flashbacks.

Linderman revealed?
falconcc_2427 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
In "Company Man," there were constant flashbacks of HRG/Mr. Bennett. One recurring element was Eric Roberts. They never mentioned his character by name, and I noticed that on IMDb he's not mentioned as a guest star, but I wonder if he's the elusive Mr. Linderman that Hiro's searching for for the sword and that seems to definitely have several fingers in various people's peripheral lives.

We know that Simone worked for him (she REALLY should have left that key at Issac's), and that he owns the "godsend" sword. However, we've never actually seen him conversing with anyone. I have got to admit though, that I was impressed to see Hiro's father giving Claire to HRG. Plus, why the hell would he have brought young Hiro to that building?
