It is safe to say that Jack Black is one of the most unique movie stars of the 21st century. Having appeared in films as early as the 1990s, as well as establishing himself as a comedic rock icon alongside Kyle Gass with their band Tenacious D, Black's rise to superstardom is particularly notable through his roles in family films. Whether it is through his voice work in animated films such as "Shark Tale, "Kung Fu Panda," and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," or in live-action fair such as "Nacho Libre," "Goosebumps," the "Jumanji" films, and most recently, "A Minecraft Movie," Black has left his mark on the family film genre.
Along with his extensive work within family films, Jack Black remains a beloved comedic actor thanks to his roles in more mature material. "High Fidelity" served as a wonderful cinematic breakthrough for him, whereas his roles in "Shallow Hal,...

Ben Stiller's dark comedy, which made over $128 million at the box office, has landed on Netflix's global chart 18 years after its release. Stiller has been a consistent comedic presence since the 1990s, starting with his sketch comedy series, The Ben Stiller Show. He went on to make guest appearances in television shows like Friends, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, and Extras, the last of which earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
After beginning his career in television, Stiller transitioned to film and starred in a string of successful studio comedies, including romantic comedies like There's Something About Mary and Along Came Polly, and more absurdist and satirical style comedies such as Zoolander, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, and Tropic Thunder. Since the mid-2010s, Stiller has shifted back to television, directing episodes of Severance and other shows. However, many of Stiller's...

Following President Donald Trump’s recent threat that he will hit movies made in foreign countries with 100% tariffs has Hollywood panicking. But, according to Tom Cruise fans, the Mission: Impossible star and action icon is guaranteed to set Trump straight.
The President of the United States threatened movies made outside America with 100% tariffs over the weekend, and while many have revealed how such a move would be extremely difficult, this has caused panic within the industry, which is still feeling the effects of both the Covid pandemic and the strikes in 2023.
Now, Tom Cruise fans have shared their thoughts on the situation, and believe that the Top Gun actor, who is often hailed as the last, true movie star and the savior of movies, will put a stop to Trump’s latest act of madness. Is the commentary track a lost art? For those who get their movies at home via streaming services, it certainly is. Unfortunately, the major services don't offer any sort of bonus features, while VOD purchases only come with a small selection of content. For those of us who still worship at the altar of physical media, the academic commentary track is alive and well, with every release containing at least one track examining a film. However, both groups have to endure the loss of what used to be a Hollywood staple: the cast commentary track for a recent film. While these continue to crop up on occasion, they've become exceedingly rare, which is bizarre for anyone who was around for the heyday of DVD. Heck, commentaries used to be such a prerequisite that in 2008's "Tropic Thunder," Robert Downey Jr.'s Kirk Lazarus (playing Lincoln Osiris) made a quip about...

Careful where you crack a joke—sometimes the joke cracks you back! This line has stuck in our heads ever since we saw Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and Jack Black try to set the internet on fire with their viral spoof for Tropic Thunder. But when Stiller cracked wise about Downey Jr.’s darker past with addiction and jail time, things didn’t just get awkward; they got radioactive. We mean, what was he thinking?
Honestly, watching that sketch felt like eating cotton candy laced with gunpowder. It started all chuckles and slapstick until Stiller decided to drop the Vegas-hooker-cocaine line like it was some edgy inside joke. Spoiler alert: it backfired hard. Let’s unpack how an attempt at viral gold turned into a full-blown cringe-fest!

The Penguin Lessons came to us in the form of a memoir by Tom Michell in 2016, and it has finally been made into a movie. Adapted by BAFTA-winning writer Jeff Pope, the story follows a British teacher who takes a job in Argentina in 1976. With the country’s political turmoil as the backdrop, the movie tells a human tale that reminds us that even in times of chaos and uncertainty, the bonds we form become the reason to stay alive.
Oscar-nominated director Peter Cattaneo helmed the dramedy and promises to bring his signature blend of heartfelt storytelling and nuanced character portrayal. Cattaneo is known for creating the comedy film The Full Monty, for which he won multiple accolades. Military Wives is another one of his projects that gained recognition.

With the production already commencing for Doomsday, it was only a matter of time before the internet was flooded with posts alleging to be official leaks. But amidst the various alleged set images, including the likes of James Marsden, Sir Ian McKellen, and Benedict Wong, the one that has caused the most hoopla is Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom.

Given the anticipation surrounding Rdj’s Doom, it’s easy to see why the alleged set leak popped off, but according to one scooper, its authenticity is questionable, to say the least.
Is there any truth to Robert Downey Jr’s alleged Doom leak?
Major productions have been no stranger to set leaks, with the most recent example being Superman, whose set images were making headlines during its filming in Cleveland Cincinnati. However, Marvel, for the most part, has been pretty successful in deceiving audiences,...

Did Robert Downey Jr. Ever Roast A Christopher Nolan Movie? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Robert Downey Jr. once threw serious shade at a Christopher Nolan movie. Fast forward to 2021, and he walked straight into the heart of one and walked out with an Oscar. Talk about a bridge well burned, then casually rebuilt with gold.
Back in 2008, Downey was riding high off Iron Man and Tropic Thunder. Around the same time, The Dark Knight dropped and blew up pop culture. But Downey didn’t understand the hype. He openly admitted the film just wasn’t his thing and called it overly cerebral.
The MCU star jokingly added that he’d probably need a college degree to understand what was happening. DC Comics didn’t escape the roast, either. He cracked that it just wasn’t for him. Still, Robert Downey Jr. made it clear he was half-kidding. He shrugged off the remarks,...

TV dramas like Black Mirror have gone mainstream, proving there's a wider audience for dystopian horror. Series creator Charlie Brooker said he's now jealous of Severance because he keeps hearing that it’s a "much better" show.
Charlie Brooker said he's not watching Severance; he's heard enough people asserting that's a better show. "There's certainly a show I haven't watched that's made me jealous. People keep telling me to watch Severance, and I haven't let myself do it because they also say to me, "Oh, you'll love it. It's a bit Black Mirror-y, but it's much better,'" he told THR. It's been 13 years since Brooker delved deep into dystopian horror; Black Mirror Season 1 instantly gained a cult following as an unapologetically dark TV show. Severance gained its fan base similarly, but quickly broke into the mainstream in Season 2.
Black Mirror and Severance have one more thing in common.

The secret to a huge payday at the box office? These days, the magic name is "Jack Black." Between the record-breaking success of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (where he voiced the big baddie Bowser) and now the ridiculous performance of "A Minecraft Movie," Black is the man on top and can't be stopped. It's also unsurprising, considering he's been one of the most recognizable comedy faces in Hollywood for decades, with roles in films like "Saving Silverman," "Shallow Hal," "School of Rock," "Nacho Libre," "Tropic Thunder," the "Kung Fu Panda" franchise, and the recent "Jumanji" reboot movies (in addition to his band Tenacious D) keeping him a superstar.
But what about the roles that people might not be as familiar with? What about those hidden gems in Black's filmography that don't get as much attention because they aren't as showy as some of his more notable works? In honor...

You know what they say, “life’s a series of bumps, bruises, and breakthroughs.” And when it comes to Hollywood, few stories prove this more than the journeys of Terrence Howard and Robert Downey Jr. These two actors’ paths intersected at a pivotal point in Iron Man (2008), but their personal and professional lives have been anything but easy sailing.
Howard’s early life was marred by relationship turbulence, with two divorces from Lori McCommas before 2007. Yet, amid that chaos, he snagged the role of James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes in Iron Man. But a contract dispute led to him being replaced by Don Cheadle.

On the flip side, Downey Jr. was battling his demons in the form of substance abuse, but Iron Man became his redemption, breathing life into his career, and creating the foundation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Their stories mirror each other in many ways,...

How did Jack Black nail his gender-swap role in Jumanji?(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Sony Pictures’ Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle revived the beloved 1995 classic with a bold, modern twist—reimagining the mysterious board game as a retro-style video game that drew players directly into its world.
Instead of the jungle spilling into suburbia, this film flipped the script: the jungle consumed its players via video game. Four high school students were sucked into the game and took on avatars wildly different from their real-world selves, turning the adventure into a body-swap comedy with a digital edge.
In the movie, Dwayne Johnson embodied a socially awkward gamer trapped in a heroic explorer’s frame, while Kevin Hart portrayed a confident jock who ended up as a short, fast-talking zoologist.
But perhaps the most striking transformation belonged to Jack Black, who hilariously played Professor Shelly Oberon—the in-game persona of Bethany White,...

In Frank Oz's 2001 film "The Score," Robert De Niro plays Nick, a master safe-cracker who is approached by a thief named Jack (Edward Norton) about a potentially lucrative heist. This is all suspicious from the jump, however, as Nick is usually recruited for heists by his fence and longtime associate Max (Marlon Brando). Jack seems to want to take control of the situation, which Nick doesn't care for. Like all the best heist movies, "The Score" is mostly a procedural, detailing how Nick and Jack plan to break into a safe that contains a valuable golden scepter. Cleverly, rather than crack the safe in a traditional fashion, Nick thinks to drill a hole in its top, fill it with water, and then lower a small bomb inside. The detonation will cause the water to expand and the door to blow off the safe. It's just physics.

The song from one of the most memorable scenes from the Severance Season 2 finale has been released in its entirety, even for those who don’t have an Apple TV+ subscription. Apple TV+ has dropped The Ballad of Ambrose & Gunnel by Theodore Shapiro, the song played during the Marching Band scene, in the final episodes of Severance Season 2. Mr. Milchick (Tramell Tillman) calls upon Lumon’s Choreography and Merriment department to celebrate Mark Scout (Adam Scott) finishing Cold Harbor, but things don’t go as planned when he gets locked in the bathroom and the entire band turns on him. The Defiant Jazz scene from Severance Season 1 had long been regarded as one of the most iconic moments in the show, but the Marching Band scene takes the cake and is now Milchick’s best moment.

Eddie Murphy famously had beef with David Spade after his Hollywood Minute segment on SNL’s Weekend Update took a wicked shot at him. “Look, children, it’s a falling star,” Spade snarked next to a picture of a smiling Murphy. “Make a wish.”
@doubleimpactpodcast
Spade had been much crueler to other celebrities, but Murphy, fresh off his first box-office flops, was incensed. He repeatedly called the SNL offices to berate a terrified Spade. “My heart stopped. Wtf?” Spade remembered. He finally accepted the call, and “I took my beating.”
But if Spade’s one-liner riled Murphy, what did he think of that fake movie trailer that ran before Tropic Thunder? Multiple trailer spoofs in that movie parodied the worst of Hollywood. Ben Stiller’s character, Tugg Speedman, starred in Scorcher VI: Global Meltdown, the latest in a series of over-the-top action blockbusters that made less money with each sequel.

Fans of Ghostbusters comedy legend Harold Ramis will be able to stream his last-ever movie next month. The filmmaker's final directorial effort before his death in 2014 was the prehistoric comedy Year One.
Even some of Ramis' biggest fans may have missed Year One since it under-performed in theaters in 2009, and was largely dismissed by critics. Hulu subscribers will get to decide for themselves about whether Year One was wrongfully ignored when it becomes available to stream on April 1, 2025.
Year One Comes to Hulu in April
Jack Black and Michael Cera starred in Ramis' spoof of the biblical Book of Exodus, as two primitives traveling to the sin-filled village of Sodom to save their love interests (June Diane Raphael and Juno Temple). The comedy boasted a hugely impressive cast, including a Superbad reunion for Cera with co-star Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Bill Hader, Olivia Wilde, Paul Rudd and David Cross all featured in Year One too.

[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of Apple TV+’s Severance, “Cold Harbor.”]
Mark S. murdered Mr. Drummond in Severance‘s season two finale. His finger pulled the trigger of a gun while shifting from innie to outie in Lumon’s elevator, and Outie Mark (Adam Scott) woke up to a fountain of blood streaming from Drummond’s (Darri Ólafsson) throat. Upstairs, Innie Mark had just finished a brutal fistfight with Drummond, which began with the security chief’s near-successful strangulation of Mark and ended with goat lady Lorne (Gwendoline Christie) throwing several key punches.
In the testing floor’s elevator lobby, Drummond’s blood spurted, then bubbled, then pooled around his dead body on the shining white tile. Outie Mark used his blood-saturated tie to circumvent a DNA barrier to rescue Gemma (Dichen Lachman), who in turn guided her husband back to the severed floor, where Innie Mark pushed Gemma through a doorway and then, to the lilting snare...

Tropic Thunder is still Robert Downey Jr.'s most controversial movie, it continues to face heavy backlash for its divisive themes. He said they set out to challenge tropes but anticipated the criticism. Fans can watch Tropic Thunder for free on Tubi this April.
Tubi is streaming Tropic Thunder for free on Apr. 1.Directed by Ben Stiller, the R-rated comedy follows a group of egotistical actors who believe they're making a war film; none of their scenes were make believe, however, and they stumbled along, oblivious to the peril. Tropic Thunder stars Stiller, Jack Black, Brandon Timothy Jackson, and Robert Downey Jr., who plays Kirk Lazarus, an Australian method actor who takes his latest role to the extreme. Lazarus undergoes "pigmentation alteration" to play Staff Sergeant Lincoln Osiris, a black character and war veteran. Critics have since called out Downey Jr.'s character and his portrayal of African-Americans.

When Tom Cruise and Shah Rukh Khan honored Slumdog Millionaire (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Shah Rukh Khan holds a hefty reputation as Bollywood’s “king,” yet the actor has willingly distanced himself from heading west. The Devdas actor has graced Hollywood’s talk shows and media often, occasionally venturing to compare himself with Tom Cruise to effortlessly spotlight his own lavish life and career in India.
That’s not to say Khan has ever lacked tantalizing offers from Hollywood. In 2009, Danny Boyle, director of the Academy Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire, eyed him for the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host role. Khan politely declined the part, hinting at his reluctance to chart gray or negative parts at that stage in his journey, and was replaced with Anil Kapoor.
However, Srk did resurface at Boyle’s invite during the Slumdog Millionaire promotional push, even helming its intro at the 2009 Golden Globes, as...

Jamie Foxx was part of a press conference today while promoting his Apple TV+ documentary production, Number One on the Call Sheet, and MovieWeb had a chance to ask Foxx about the challenges of moving behind the camera to direct his first feature-length fiction film, All-Star Weekend. It's apparently a wild comedy full of vignettes, like the absolute classic Robert Townsend comedy, Hollywood Shuffle. And apparently, Robert Downey Jr. is ditching the Blackface of Tropic Thunder for a different skin complexion. As a matter of fact, so is Jamie Foxx.
Foxx discussed calling in a variety of people to take part in what seems like an outrageous comedy — not just Robert Downey Jr., but also Benicio Del Toro, Gerard Butler, Snoop Dogg, Jeremy Piven, Eva Longoria, DJ Khaled, The Game, and many others. In a hilarious Downey Jr. impersonation, Foxx imitated the actor accepting the role, and then detailed Downey Jr.

Danny McBridehas been one of the most consistently successful creative storytellers of the past several decades, as he has managed to star, produce, and create a series of highly successful HBO shows like Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, and The Righteous Gemstones. Although McBride’s shows are brilliant in their own right, he certainly earned a reputation for being one of the funniest living actors thanks to hilarious performances in modern comedy classics like Pineapple Express, This Is The End, and Tropic Thunder. McBride has a rather extensive filmography, as he has frequently collaborated with the acclaimed independent filmmaker David Gordon Green. Although he would later work with Green on writing and creating the new Halloween reboot trilogy, McBride has a small role in the brilliant romantic drama All the Real Girls.

There aren’t many actors in film history who have managed to pull off a comeback quite as impressive as Robert Downey Jr.’s sudden reemergence in the first decade of the 21st century. Although Downey Jr. had once been considered a generational talent due to his brilliant performances in Chaplin and The Pick-up Artist, among many others, his personal addiction issues led to an extended period in which he was essentially unemployable. Downey Jr.’s perseverance paid off when, in 2008, he landed two roles that would reshape his career forever; Tropic Thunder earned him enough praise for the bravery of his performance that it earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and Iron Manmade him the face of the most popular multimedia franchise of the century. However, this was a comeback that was already in the works two years prior, as Downey Jr. gave one of his most personal,...

No film so perfectly encapsulates the generation gap in America in the '60s than John Wayne's corny Vietnam War epic, The Green Berets. The genre has reached such a level of ubiquity and cliché that soon it birthed its own parody in the form of Tropic Thunder. There’s no shortage of productions exploring the political nuances and the social ramifications of the war today, but that was a different story in 1968.
Adapting the 1965 best-selling novel of the same name to theaters, it boasted John Wayne in the lead, with The Fugitive star David Janssen, Jim Hutton, and George Takei in supporting roles. The Vietnam War was a travesty in many respects. Blame US Defense Secretary Robert McNamara. For the movie, that is. Come to think of it, blame him for the war too. Reactions to the action flick were unkind. For screenwriters, journalists, and directors, it only...

Jon Stewarthas taken some heat over the past month for supposedly not attacking the Trump administration enough. A week after Donald Trump was officially inaugurated as President of the United States, Stewart spent his weekly monologue on The Daily Show warning people to not overreact to every single thing the Trump administration does, and to not scream "fascist" every day. It was a more centrist take than the left wanted to see after the first week of Trump's presidency, resulting in a bevy of criticism and YouTube comments like, "Glad to read I am not the only one who doesn't see it the way Jon does tonight. Fascism doesn't come in with a bang; it slithers in and erodes the institutions from within." It's safe to say that, one month later, things have heated up.
Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, saw one of Stewart's most immediately acclaimed monologues since his return to The Daily Show in Feb.

James Mangold directed films across genres including rom-coms, dramas, and biopics. He also helmed 2007's 3:10 to Yuma, one of cinema's best Western remakes.
James Mangold's 3:10 to Yuma joins Hulu's streaming library on Mar. 1. This 2007 Western is an impressive remake of the 1957 film, one of cinema's genre-defining classics. With an impressive ensemble led by Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Peter Fonda, and Ben Foster, 3:10 to Yuma is a darker, grittier version of the original, which had a hopeful, triumphant ending. In contrast, James Mangold's remake is character-driven with its complex villain and tragic protagonist. The film was a modest success upon release, and it has since earned a cult following; Western fans consider it a worthy remake, acclaimed by critics and the general audiences.

Ben Stiller has always been politely outspoken with his views, far from neutral but worlds away from a Rachel Zegler-style "F**k Trump." This has gotten him in the proverbial crosshairs of Elon Musk in recent months, along with Musk and Trump's fans. Back in November 2024, Musk called him a "r*tard" for voting for Kamala Harris, in a reference to Stiller's 2008 film, Tropic Thunder. More recently, he reposted misinformation alleging that Stiller was paid by Usaid for a humanitarian trip to Ukraine. All of this was brought up during Stiller's recent interview with Tim Miller for The Bulwark, and it led to some hilarious dream-casting for a Tropic Thunder sequel.
"I'm obligated to bring up the fact that the Shadow President, Elon Musk, did tweet that you "went full r*tard above a pick of you with your endorsement of Kamala Harris," explained host Tim Miller. "I guess...

As a director, Ben Stiller is a wily one. After skimming the surface of Gen-x disillusionment with his debut feature "Reality Bites," the son of comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara made his name helming silly-smart films whose zany exteriors belie their depth. Take his 1996 comedy "The Cable Guy." Though it initially proved to be something of a divisively dark curiosity (Roger Ebert actually listed it among his picks for the worst movies of its year), it's since undergone a reevaluation and is now regarded as being prescient in its satirization of the public's true crime obsession. Stiller's 2001 fashion industry burlesque "Zoolander" has likewise become a full-fledged cult classic, while his edgy takedown of Hollywood ego and excess, "Tropic Thunder," is just as audacious now as it was when it first arrived in 2008.
In contrast to their barbed social commentary, these films are pretty broad when it comes to their humor and characterization.

Raunchy rom-com There's Something About Mary is climbing the streaming chart, currently sitting at number six on Hulu. Starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, the comedy was directed by the Farrelly Brothers (Peter and Bobby), and became a massive smash hit when it premiered in July 1998. The film went on to earn nearly $370 million at the global box office against a $23 million production budget. It currently sits at a positive 84% critical and, surprisingly, only 61% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
Following the success of Dumb and Dumber in 1994, and, to a lesser extent, Kingpin in 1996, the Farrelly Brothers went to work on There's Something About Mary, which starred Stiller as Ted, Diaz as Mary, and Matt Dillon as Healy. Years after a disastrous high school date with his crush Mary (you have to see it to believe it), Ted gets another chance years later when his best friend Dom (Chris Elliott) suggests he find her.
