For the budget and the time constraints whilst directing this film, Gun of the Black Sun is incredibly well executed and enjoyable. Real WW2 history is buried deep within the script and is a treat for anyone interested in the era. Humour and conflict are well balanced by the editing and incredible score. Gary Douglas excels in a realistic and sympathetic performance as the leading man, and the rest of the cast is similarly entertaining to watch. If you are bored on a Saturday night and seek something a little more underground than mainstream Hollywood, this film will scratch that itch for you.
This movie does what all movies are supposed to do! You start watching, it takes you in and you want to see what happens. An entertaining romp around Romania to London tongue in cheek not taking itself seriously, we all had a good time watching it. Lovely to see the wonderful Richard Lynch in his last film role and he does not disappoint. Gary Douglas does a fine job looking somewhat bewildered while all these fantastical events unfold around him. Ian Wright in a film role, worth a look in itself. Sexy looking girls are plentiful, Harley D's are exciting, and can't beat a red Ferrari and a golden Luger. A must see!
From a previous review: "With Gary pulling off the classic (Roger)Corman trick of casting himself in the lead (keeps the budget down and puts the producer on set every day :-)" WTF? Corman has probably produced over 100 films and though he has sometimes made Hitchcock-style walk-on appearances, he has never played the lead in any film! 'Bikeboy' references Corman about 10 times in his review but has he actually ever seen a single Corman movie? Smells like someone involved in the production trying hard to link Roger's good name with this inferior product... Jeff Burr is a good atmospheric director given decent material but unfortunately this messy film falls far below his usual standard, with the late lamented Richard Lynch being about the only reason to sit thru it. Whoever thought having a Luger pistol as a world-threatening super-weapon was a great idea? An excellent handgun for sure but not exactly the Ark of the Covenant...

The film is a thrilling and imaginative adventure that explores the hidden secrets of Nazi occultism and its connection to modern day technology and music. The film follows a Nazi Luger pistol with dark and mystical powers that re-emerges in modern day Bucharest and is taken to London by a media mogul who intends to use its power to recreate the Fourth Reich.
The film showcases the creativity and passion of the filmmakers and the actors. The film manages to combine elements of action, horror, and history in a unique and original way. The plot is fast-paced and full of twists and turns, the characters are complex and intriguing, the dialogue is witty and clever, and the special effects are impressive and realistic. Gun of the Black Sun is an enjoyable romp throughout Rumanian Nazi and folk-loric weirdness. There is a golden Luger involved, lots of shapely starlets and the extraordinary appearance of that wizard of football Ian Wright. We love the utterly bizarre connections and this film as it barrels from dizzying punch -ups to top-less beach love trysts with a hero whose ulster accent keeps the whole thing on a terrestrial level. As they used to say about onion bubble gum "Looks like chewing gum, tasks like onion - it's weird. But also Fun.... Deliciously bonkers therefore a must see for a great experience.
