Did You Know Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Halloween Episode Became a Tradition? Here’s How It All Started! (Photo Credit – Facebook)
When Brooklyn Nine-Nine introduced its first Halloween heist, fans knew they were in for something unique. Each Halloween, Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and the rest of the 99th Precinct crew would up the ante with a hilariously chaotic heist. By the time we reached Halloween, the fifth installment of these episodes, the tradition had become a cornerstone of the series—a chance for the characters to try out-cunning each other in a dizzying race to snag a “cummerbund” or “belt” and claim the title of “Ultimate Detective Slash Genius.”
Halloween, the fourth episode of season five, locked the heist into Brooklyn Nine-Nine history. Taking place entirely within the precinct, it captured the 99’s escalating rivalry, with betrayal, handcuffs, and a clever corgi named Cheddar. Things started when Jake...

In the "Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "Dos Cerritos," the premiere of the show's fifth and final season, Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) was thrilled to receive the latest issue of Fleet Magazine on his Padd. Boimler is excited because this was the periodical's annual 30-Under-30 issue, meant to highlight the career accomplishments of Starfleet's younger officers. In the show's previous episode, Boimler briefly took command of the U.S.S. Cerritos, a rare privilege for junior-grade lieutenants, and his actions warranted a write-up. Recall that there is no money in Starfleet, leaving prestige as the only currency. Boimler thinks he's going to be rich.
But as Boimler thumbs through the magazine, he doesn't see himself. It seems that his interview was cut. He is doomed to remain in obscurity despite his heroism, always earmarked to lose. He complains that other,...

Like many artists in the 1970s, Steely Dan rose to prominence while following in the footsteps of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The Beatles were a source of inspiration for the band. Still, they didn’t feel impressed by some of their actions after the band broke up. In 1972, they released a song that mocked Lennon’s brand of activism.
Steely Dan wrote a song about John Lennon
On his honeymoon with Yoko Ono, Lennon began engaging in bed-ins, a nonviolent form of protest in which Lennon and Ono sat in bed to promote peace. In 1971, Lennon released the song “Imagine.” In it, he detailed his vision for a better future.
The following year, Steely Dan released the song “Only a Fool Would Say That.” In it, they sing that Lennon’s vision for a peaceful future feels impossible.

While art doesn’t always require an audience, Square Enix’s choice-driven adventure game Life is Strange quickly found a home among young gamers (especially in the queer community) with an affinity for indie music and quirky sci-fi adventures thematically akin to Twin Peaks. Inspirations aside, Life is Strange has found longevity of its own, and since 2015 has blossomed beyond the scope of its initial cast of colorful, preppy characters with successful sequels highlighting America’s cultural diaspora.

[This story contains major spoilers from the seventh episode of Grotesquerie.]
Nothing in the marketing for FX horror series Grotesquerie tipped viewers off that this Ryan Murphy show is not what it seems. And, that was intentional. Because when the seventh episode of the Niecy Nash-Betts-starring series released, Murphy wanted a collective gasp from viewers. And that’s exactly what he got when the extended hour released on Wednesday night.
“The very fact that none of this got out is a miracle in today’s modern age,” Murphy, who co-created, wrote and directed Grotesquerie tells The Hollywood Reporter in a chat with his collaborative partner, John Landgraf, Chairman of FX Content & FX Productions.
The twist was so big, and the rollout was so unique, that the pair sat down with THR to unpack their master plan: Grotesquerie is a drama series, they say, that will continue to unravel twist after twist, leading up to a finale cliffhanger that will...

Spooky season is upon us and that means we've got some brand new horror movies hitting theaters. Could you imagine an Oscars ceremony without the glitz, glamour and a heavy dose of pop stardom? Can you imagine the ratings?
Well, the Oscars could get much more musical. This awards season, brace yourself for a “pop star era,” with music icons such as Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande all competing to receive acting attention from the Academy Awards, and in the same supporting actress race no less.
Pop stars have long dominated the stage, captivating millions with their music. However, some megastars have proven they can conquer more than the Billboard charts. Take legendary artist Cher, for instance — the “Goddess of Pop” didn’t just give us hits like “Believe,” she also took home an Oscar for best actress for her unforgettable role as Italian widow and bookkeeper Loretta Castorini in the 1987 rom-com classic “Moonstruck.” That crossover has also come from other genre artists.

The 2009 film "Nine" — not to be confused with the 2009 film "9" — was an Oscar darling in the most frustrating possible way. It was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Supporting Actress (Penélope Cruz), Best Art Direction, Best Costumes, and Best Original Song. That was just enough nominations for mad Oscar completists to have to see "Nine," a movie that, many agreed, looked dull and baffling. The critics seemed to think so, anyway, as "Nine" only has a 39% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's the lowest approval rating of any film to star Daniel Day-Lewis.
"Nine" requires some explanation. Firstly, the film was based on a Broadway musical that debuted in 1982. The original production starred Raul Julia, playing a character that was very similar to, but legally distinct from, real-life Italian master Federico Fellini. The character, named Guido Contini, found both his marriage and his creative spirit flagging in the face of a midlife crisis.

The Zurich Film Festival will this year present director Edward Berger with its prestigious Golden Eye A Tribute To…Award, honoring his life’s work.
Berger, whose 2022 war epic All Quiet on the Western Front was nominated for 9 Oscars and won 4, is back in the award conversations this year with his latest feature, Conclave. The gripping Vatican-set drama stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow in a behind-the-scenes thriller about the selection of a new pope after the death of the previous pontiff.
“With Conclave, Edward Berger has successfully created a masterpiece,” said Zurich Film Festival artistic director Christian Jungen. “Edward is a master of the classic style who allows his character actors like Ralph Fiennes to give room to their talent and whose directions are entirely intended to serve the story. He is multifaceted, able to navigate a wide range of genres and always manages to find the appropriate style and tone.

Naruto’s live-action movie is seeing both positive and negative sides to its development. On one hand, Destin Daniel Cretton helming the project gives it credibility and hope that it would be directed well. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings gave the director enough to go with. On the other hand, it was said that the film would take an original take on Masashi Kishimoto’s story.

The movie has both good and bad expectations on its back but it is through One Piece that faith isn’t dead. The Netflix live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece was a success when no one thought it could be. All the things it got right created a sense of competition for every other adaptation to come. However, it also taught everyone something in the process.

The devil is in the details, or in the case of Hysteria!, in a local heavy metal band.
Hysteria! is one of two original series Peacock has lined up to scare the bejesus out of viewers this Halloween.
The other is Teacup, based on Robert McCammon’s 1988 science fiction horror novel Stinger, set to premiere on October 10.
(Photo: NBCU)
Horror icon Bruce Campbell guest stars in Hysteria! as the town’s police chief, so you know it’s going to be good.
Here’s everything else we know so far about Hysteria!
What is Hysteria About?
Set in the fictional town of Happy Hallow, Michigan, in the 1980s, Hysteria! explores the “satanic panic” of that era.
The story follows a group of high school kids who decide to put the pedal to the metal, literally, by rebranding their heavy metal band as a Satanic metal band.
Why would they do such a devilish thing?...

When the TV series based on the popular video game franchise Twisted Metal made its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in July, it quickly became one of Peacock’s top five original series, racking up 400 million viewing minutes in its first weekend and earning the honor of being the streamer’s “most-binged” premiere. Now season 2 is speeding ahead and is currently in production. A couple of months ago, it was announced that Richard de Klerk (A Teenage Prophet), Patty Guggenheim (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), and Tiana Okoye (Mrs. Davis) had joined the cast in unspecified recurring guest roles. Now Deadline reveals that Saylor Bell Curda of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series; Michael James Shaw, who was seen wearing the pumpkin-colored amor of the character Mercer in the final season of The Walking Dead; and Lisa Gilroy of Interior Chinatown have also joined the cast, playing unspecified recurring roles.

In the past, crime procedurals combined quirky investigations, important relationships between the cast, and witty banter to create a fun, light-hearted series.
However, many current procedurals focus more on gritty violent crimes, and it’s challenging to balance between showing realistic cases and adding some humor.

When it comes to "Star Trek" characters, there's no one quite as legendary as James Tiberius Kirk, the Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise on the very first "Star Trek" series back in 1966. Played by William Shatner, the character became a cornerstone of a greater franchise universe -- the captain who really set the tone for all of the other captains to come. Shatner last played the character onscreen in the 1994 film "Star Trek Generations," which was a complicated and controversial send-off for Kirk. However, he told The Hollywood Reporter in March 2024 that he is open to playing the character again ... with two major conditions.
Bringing back an older version of Kirk back would be sort of difficult since the character died in "Generations." Of course, given that various timelines and time travel are a part of the "Star Trek" universe, it isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Frank Herbert's "Dune" has a longer timeline than one might expect. The first book takes place in the year 10,191 A.G., referring to a time after the inception of the Spacing Guild, the organization devoted to faster-than-light travel. Later sequels refer to the year 11,200 B.G. as the year humans first developed space travel, lining it up with A.D. 1960. "Dune," then, takes place about 20,000 years in the future.
"Star Trek," in contrast, takes place in the relatively near future. The original series takes place in the 23rd century, and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" -- and its immediate spinoffs "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek" Voyager," and "Star Trek: Lower Decks" -- all take place in the 24th century. Extending the timeline, "Picard" takes place in the early 25th century, and the bulk of "Discovery" takes place in 32nd century, thanks to a time warp. Comparatively, those...

Move over, Daft Punk, because Nine Inch Nails is moving closer to the future of the Tron series, with the industrial band landing scoring duties for the upcoming Tron: Ares.
Even though a lot of their music (the Ghosts albums come to mind) can often play like a soundtrack, Nine Inch Nails has done very little work in that realm, having previously only done the music for video game Quake. With Tron: Ares, Nine Inch Nails will finally give us an idea of all that could have ever been.
Even still, Trent Reznor — who was the sole member of Nine Inch Nails since its inception in 1988 until Atticus Ross officially joined in 2004 — has made an incredibly successful transition from the music studio to the movie studio. With Ross, Reznor first won the Best Original Score Oscar for The Social Network, next nabbing it for Soul (alongside Jon Baptiste). They would...

Walt Disney Studios finally dropped a first look at Tron: Ares at D23 last night, offering a better idea of what's to come in the highly anticipated, latest instalment in the groundbreaking sci-fi franchise. The movie is a follow-up to Disney's 1982 seminal science fiction film Tron and its 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy.
The trailer hasn't been officially released, but as we first reported on SFFGazette.com, fans on X and Reddit have wasted no time sharing footage and photos from the action-packed sneak peek.
It opens with Evan Peters' character, Julian Dillinger, talking about the rise of artificial intelligence and hints at how the Grid will factor into that. Action-packed shots of several characters come next, and unlike blue-tinted previous instalments, this movie's colour palette is very red.
Jared Leto is also shown suited up, as is the returning Jeff Bridges. The latter's appearance drew cheers from fans at D23 and,...

Who's ready for some more biodigital jazz, man? Throughout its 40-plus year existence, the "Tron" franchise has always been a little too far ahead of the curve for its own good. Steven Lisberger's original 1982 "Tron" film was notoriously overlooked by the Academy in spite of its groundbreaking computer-generated visual effects, and even Stan Lee didn't really get what Lisberger was going for. When Joseph Kosinski's "Tron: Legacy" arrived 28 years after that, it similarly pioneered digital de-aging and the legacy sequel formula at a time when neither of those things were in vogue. Nevertheless, the forward-looking sci-fi property has gained a loyal following over the decades, which explains why we're currently awaiting a third movie in the form of "Tron: Ares."
Whereas the original "Tron 3," the canceled "Tron: Ascension," would have been more of a direct continuation of "Legacy," this new film shifts its focus to the eponymous...

Nine Inch Nails will score the upcoming Tron movie, Tron: Ares, Disney announced during its D23 presentation on Friday.
Nin members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have become among the most celebrated composers in the film industry over the past 15 years, winning two Academy Awards and numerous other accolades. However, Tron: Ares is the first film score specifically attributed to Nine Inch Nails. It also marks the first project from Nin since the release of their ambient instrumental music collections, Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts, in 2020.
In an interview earlier this year, Reznor and Ross revealed that they had several projects in the works, including a TV show with The Bear creator Christopher Storer; a film with horror director Mike Flanagan; a clothing line called Memory Fades; and a collaboration with Epic Games involving the Uefn ecosystem Epic has built around Fortnite. The duo also said they were...

Drumming sensation, multi-instrumentalist, and all-around musical prodigy Nandi Bushell has taken a short break from crushing drum covers and joining icons on stage to deliver a haunting cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt.” Watch her rendition of the song below.
Bushell posted the clip to social media on Wednesday (August 7th), writing that she was so taken by the Downward Spiral cut, as well as the Johnny Cash version, that she felt compelled to put her own spin on it.
“I discovered the song ‘Hurt’ by Trent Renzor and Nine Inch Nails from the Johnny Cash version. It’s so powerful,” she stated. “Obviously, I can’t [relate] to the lyrics. But I wanted to create my own version to understand what makes it such a moving piece of art. Although it will never compare with the Nine Inch Nails or Johnny Cash version, I hope my take on ‘Hurt’ makes...
