This is one of those famous "you can't win either way" tales for Beave. Ward and June believe he should get involved in more school activities, so Beave joins the drama club. It's a lot of fun until Miss Landers chooses him to play the lead in the "Little Dutch Boy" play. What?
Not exactly Beave's kind of material --but it gets worse. Miss Landers chose him because she believes he's the most mature, capable of handling this role which includes KISSING a girl? Holy smokes! Of course to add to the dilemma is the presence of Gilbert and Richard, not Dutch Boy fans.
Best part has Ward and June trying to convince Beaver that even movie stars DO kiss girls. Just plain hilarious stuff, written by producers Joe Connelly and Bob Mosher --who I am certain wrote this from personal experiences.
Character actress Katherin Warren plays Mrs. Prescott, who appeared in several classic movies, such as THE CAINE MUTINY and the GLENN MILLER STORY. She passed a few years after this episode following a long illness. Always applause for talented Karen Sue Trent as Penny. She's always fun to watch.
This may have inspired yet another classic BRADY BUNCH episode, this time where Peter is cast as Benedict Arnold in a school play, also chosen because he's such a responsible student, which makes a similar mess out of his life.
Interesting that Dann Cahn directed this, long time production supervisor for Lucille Ball and Danny Thomas. If he was directing anything, it was very rare. But he holds the cast together quite well.
Truly a 10 Plus episode. Everything clicks. SEASON 4 EPISODE 24 remastered.
