Though filmed in late 2006, Carriers was not released by Paramount until September 2009, following the success of Chris Pine's appearance in Star Trek (2009), released earlier in 2009.
Though Danny, played by Lou Taylor Pucci, is the film's main character, Chris Pine as Brian gets top billing over him, a conscious decision made by Paramount Pictures following his newfound fame from Star Trek (2009).
Due to real life parallels, the film saw renewed interest during the Covid-19 pandemic along with similar disease-related works The Stand (1994), Outbreak (1995), and Contagion (2011).
