James Garner on-Camera Interview: Rockford Files Season 1 DVD

1 review
7/10

Who IS that Guy?

He sounds like James Garner, he acts like James Garner, but who is this old, old man talking about "The Rockford Files"?

If you haven't seen James Garner in awhile, his appearance is almost shocking. His dark mane of hair is all but a memory, his neck is all wrinkled with flaps of skin hanging loose, and he has those "old man" eyebrows. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Cary Grant aged quite well. Garner is almost unrecognizable.

Except when he talks. And its quite enjoyable to hear him talk about the Rockford Files, his fights with the studio to make it humorous, his battles to get Stuart Margolin on the show, his affection for Joe Santos. It's well illustrated by scenes from the first season as a promotional tool for the DVD. You just wish he'd give us more. More about Noah Beery Jr. More about who decided on the change from the first actor who played Rocky; more about Gretchen Davenport and why she left the show; just more. For Garner remains as charming and interesting as ever.

Just like the Rockford Files, you wish he'd just have given us more. Perhaps on future DVD collections he will.
