Teaser: Gabriel Carrer’s Vigilante Film, The Demolisher
Apart from sporting a mean moniker, Gabriel Carrer’s vigilante film The Demolisher looks impacting and synthy; a hard edged throwback of citywide violence. The Demolisher is the fourth feature from Carrer, the Canadian indie filmmaker behind If A Tree Falls, Kill and the Henry Rollins-starring In The House of Flies. In the film, “Bruce (Ryan Barrett) is an ordinary repairman tormented…

Ten Canadian Genre/Horror Filmmakers to Watch For
Horror has been in Canada's snow for decades now, starting with the classic Cannibal Girls and Black Christmasin the early '70s, through the classic early Cronenberg years of Shivers, Rabid and The Brood in the late '70s. In the '80s, we got films like Prom Night, My Bloody Valentine and The Gate. In the past decade, we've had flicks like the Ginger Snaps series, Cube and PontyPool. In fact, you could even count the last three Dead movies by George A. Romero as Canadian — after all, he is a Canadian citizen now and made all three films in Toronto.

Being both a film writer and a host of a monthly horror film series called Fright Nights at the Projection Booth (based out of Toronto, Canada), I have noticed an incredible renaissance of grindhouse and horror directors coming out of Canada in the past few years. Southern Ontario,...

If a Tree Falls Will You Hear the Screams of the Murdered?
In the new indie horror flick If a Tree Falls, more kids get in a car for a scenic trip through the countryside and make it to their destination, happy and unscathed. Of course I'm bullshitting. That would be a completely awful movie, no?

Early Word and Teaser Art for In the House of Flies
Today we got word of a new indie project entitled In the House of Flies, which promises that, unlike previous horror films with people ‘trapped’ in a situation, this film is largely based on character instead of shock factor.

Canadian genre writer and director Philip Carrer, aka Pgc (If a Tree Falls, Troma Films’ upcoming fall 2011 release Kill, and the Lionsgate /Alliance Atlantis release Desperate Souls), along with producer Chad Archibald, surfaces once again in bringing Angus McLellan’s horror/thriller In the House of Flies to life.

Synopsis:

Set in the “retro” 1980's, In the House of Flies focuses around an abducted couple forced to tackle their way to freedom. Alone, isolated, and locked in an undisclosed suburban basement, Heather and Steve find themselves surrounded by numerous mysteriously sealed suitcases - each containing valuable clues to their very own survival. Both Heather (Lindsay Smith) and Steve (Ryan Kotak) must...

Philip Carrers In the House of Flies Teaser Artwork Reveals Just The One Fly
Director Philip Carrer's new genre project 'In the House of Flies' has got some early teaser artwork to help raise eyebrows and draw some attention to the new kidnap thriller. It features, well, a fly on it. Albeit quite a close-up, detailed view of a fly - but it seems to do the job. Philip Carrer ('If a Tree Falls', 'Kill') reteams with fellow producer Chad Archibald and will helm from a script penned by Angus McLellan. Check out the new one sheet, the synopsis and what Carrer had to say on the project, set to star Lindsay Smith and Ryan Kotak, below....
