"Here Comes the Bride, There Goes the Bride" opens with Sanford and Son wearing tuxedos for Lamont's wedding day following a two month courtship with Crystal Simpson (Carol Speed). Fred recognizes the church as the same one in which his wife Elizabeth had her funeral! He also doesn't think much of the bride's family: "bunch of jive ni--ers...they playing Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and you Sidney Poitier!" Reverend Trimble (Alvin Childress, later seen in "The Engagement") announces Crystal's arrival then begins the ceremony. Fred's comments continue to aggravate his already nervous son: "she ain't in no big hurry to get up here, is she?" All goes well until Reverend Trimble comes to the part where the bride is supposed to say 'I do,' because she don't! Lamont drowns his sorrows at home when the family shows up, not so much to comfort him but to get all their gifts back (none of these relatives ever returned). Fred nearly comes to blows with Aunt Hazel, played by veteran Lillian Randolph (later seen in "The Older Woman"), best remembered as Annie the maid in "It's a Wonderful Life," while TV pioneer Alvin Childress played cab driving Amos Jones on AMOS 'N' ANDY (this was the first, but hardly the last, time that we would hear the 'N' word).
