    Enter Roger Moore

Debonair Roger Moore, a Maverick cousin from Great Britain makes his debut as Beau Maverick who accepts a job impersonating Robert Casper who is a real English twit. His father a titled Englishman Laurie Main wants to send him to a cattle ranch where he'll learn manhood. Casper, who I swore at first was Roddy McDowall has Bart Maverick negotiate with Beau for him to take his place. But there is an evil kidnapping ransom scheme afoot and Beau walks into it.

It's up to Jack Kelly to rescue cousin Beau from the clutches of the bad guys who really are rather inept though dangerous.

Maybe had Moore started with the series he might have been better accepted. But this was James Garner's breakout and the series gradually fell in ratings without him as Garner went on to a big screen career.

    Bundle of nonsense

I'm only elevating this to a 7 because of Roger Moore. Though you don't see that much of him. But also Quite a convoluted and silly story for the introduction to his Beau Maverick character.

I assume now there isn't going to be anymore James Garner's Brett that Jack Kelly has to do more double duty in comic episodes too.

I say everything in the current persona as to me I'm going through watching Maverick for the first time in my life. To me the series started out rough but the magic of James Garner has made it watchable. Not sure how I'm going to feel on just having to see Bart Maverick from now on. But looking forward to more Roget Moore.

    Bundle From Britain

Bart gets off the stage in St. Louis looking for cousin Beau. He does not even remember what Beau looks like. There is a long barroom brawl, a sign that the writing was going downhill by season 4. Beau was dubbed "the white sheep of the family" after he got his medal in the Civil War. Being from Texas, the Mavericks fought on the side of the south. Beau gets kidnapped in this confusing episode. As hard as they try, none of the Mavericks can stay out of trouble. It may have something to do with being gamblers. My grandmother always said a gambler never has anything. After a shaky start, season 4 got better, and some of Roger Moore's shows were quite good.

Max Baer Jr.'s first credited television role. Just two years later he began the role of Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies, which kept him steadily employed until 1971.
    • Goofs
In the 1870s, the fastest transatlantic ship crossing took two weeks. Rather than the five days that it takes the Marquis to arrive in St. Louis from England as shown here.
    • Quotes

Freddie Bognor: I regret the need to say it, but you're most adept with your hands, Mr...?

Bart Maverick: Maverick. Bart Maverick. You're sort of adept yourself.

      Freddie Bognor: Oh?

Bart Maverick: Like with four card draw.

Freddie Bognor: Oh. You mean three card draw.

Bart Maverick: No, four card. Three from the deck and one from your sleeve.
