- GoofsCora hands Matt a pistol she had kept hidden, saying "Belonged to my pa." Noting Cora's age, this should have been an older pistol, but it is a Model 1873 Colt Single Action Army, only a couple of years old at the time of this episode.

Another Unhappy Ending
Gunsmoke marches on in Season 5 with one unhappy story after another one. Once again Dillon is out on the prairie, and he tries to find help at someone's home after Miss Kitty fell off her horse.
However, since Dillon was taking Miss Kitty for a ride in the country, why didn't he take her in a buggy? Dillon brought no canteen of water, and when Miss Kitty gets thirsty, they ride to the Raff (Swenson) house to get water, and that is when Kitty falls off her horse. Why would anyone go riding into the prairie on a date without bringing some food and water? It should have been a picnic, and they should have been on the buggy, but that would have been a happy story, and nobody would have died.
When Dillon gets to the house with the injured Kitty, the father at the house acts totally insane. Swenson is off the chain as the nastiest character I can remember him ever playing. The son is played as some kind of mentally defective pervert by Don Dubbins, who is standing around leering at Kitty unconscious on the bed. Dubbins decides he is going to steal the sick Kitty, and take her away to be his wife.
Who ever wrote these stories must have had a great hatred of the people of the Old West. Matt Dillon rarely found any nice people on the prairie.
Dillon acts pretty nasty himself. It is pretty obvious these folks are very poor, and instead of offering them a few dollars for their help, he just yells at them and takes over their house. Raff (Swenson) complains to his wife that the Marshal took over his home, and later he asks Dillon why he should ride into town for free. Dillon should have been more understanding, and offered him and his son (Dubbins) a few dollars to ride into town to get Doc Adams, instead of bullying them, shaming them, and belittling them.
The only nice person is the Mother, played by Anne Seymour. She takes care of Miss Kitty, and she helps Dillon, but she gets nothing either. Dillon never says Thank You to anyone.
