Plenty of laughs here.

Dorothy is tasked with hosting, and recruiting for a talent show, she has those who want to see her fail, Rose offers a glimmer of hope. Sophia is keen to feature on the show, but after a few previous disasters, Dorothy is reluctant to give her a slot.

It's a glorious episode from Rose's point of view, it's so utterly zany and bonkers, that it verges on Surreal, there's no way this would have worked with Blanche or Dorothy, but Rose believing that Bob Hope is her father, perfectly acceptable.

Plenty of funny moments here, it's an episode full of laughs, Dorothy does some of her best ever stares. Sophia and her new fella provide some great laughs, but the bulk of laughs come from Rose.

Bob Hope's presence was something of a jaw dropping moment, but that just goes to show how huge this show was at the time.

8/10.

You Gotta Have Hope (#4.17)

Warning: Spoilers
The girls are having a charity benefit and everything around organizing it goes wrong. They don't even have a host and everyone applying for it is pretty bad. But Rose has a solution, she is sure that Bob Hope i her real father and that he will come to perform. Everyone thinks it is nonsense but she says it to the rest of the women involved in the charity and they are all excited. And then on the charity day Bob Hope suddenly shows up.

A very typical Rose situation. Only she can come up with something like that and actually believe it. The best is though how they kept us thinking that it won't happen and yet he did show up. Although I doubt he is her father.

Road to Paternity.

Warning: Spoilers
Another major guest star for this episode, and I'm not talking about the big guy who sings "Puff the Magic Dragon". I'm referring to the Del Rubio Triplets, a delightfully camp singing group of three sisters beloved in the gay community for their outrageous act throughout the 1980's and early 90's, appearing at pride festivals and in TV guest appearances and raising money for AIDS related charities. Ok, so not really, although their appearance is a delight. Bob Hope, nearing 90, is the guest, involved in a plotline where Rose sincerely believes him to be her father and wants to get him to host their find raiser variety show.

How many times during a TV series can one person's paternity be dealt with? Later on, we get another story of Rose's paternity which involves another veteran movie star, and that one had a ton more credibility than this episode. I used to turn the channel when I realized that it was this episode for the umpteenth time and only occasionally watch it past "Neutron Dance". But there are a few cute moments about it such as the single member of the Skarkevitch brothers trying to do a dual juggling act and Sophia's ancient magician boyfriend. The antics of the girls to try and find Bob Hope are only moderately funny so by the time he does appear, it's a major relief. At least he's still funny unlike the sad later appearance of George Burns on "The Golden Palace'.
