The first of three television opportunities for Boris Karloff to play Jonathan Brewster, the role he had created on Broadway. Fearing the impact on the box office, the stage producers would not release him for the film version and the part was played by Raymond Massey. The second aired on January 5, 1955 on The Best of Broadway. The third was broadcast on February 5 1962.
As with all virtually all live TV productions prior to 1960, this broadcast of Arsenic and Old Lace, was recorded on Kinescope (essentially a film camera aimed at a TV Monitor in the studio during the actual broadcast) Unfortunately at this time only the
first 30 minutes of this production are known to exist.
