- Ray invests money in a go-cart venture without telling Deborah. He says it is his money, so Deborah bills him for the job she does with the children and the house. Robert compares it to a wrongful death lawsuit - the value of life.
- Ray's high-school friends Scott Preman (Bob Odenkirk) and Walter (Brian Posehn) are opening a go-kart business and want Ray to invest. Ray says that go-kart is a great business opportunity as everybody likes go-karts. Walter's dad owns an amusement park and Scott is an engineer. Ray asks Debra for her opinion, and she asks for a presentation. The friends make a presentation, where they outline their business plan. They envisage a go-kart track, with a snack bar, video game arcade, and a hall for family functions like Bat-Mitzvahs. But Debra is still a no. Debra asks Ray to turn the guys down, as she leaves to pick up the kids. Ray asks for his $1000 deposit back (which he had given them a couple of weeks ago) and the guys tell him that they already spent the $1000 on the presentation to Debra. The money is gone.
Debra becomes angry when she finds that, without her knowledge or permission, Ray contributed $1,000 to his friends' scheme to open a go-kart business. When Ray says that it's his money to invest, Debra gets upset and makes a bill for the services she does at home. $75/week for laundry, general house cleaning $200/week, $300/week as personal cook, $1000/week as childcare. The total is more than what Ray earns in a full year. Robert comes in and declares that he has invested to Scott's go-kart business. Debra says that Robert is single and hence doesn't need permission to invest his own money.
When Marie and Frank walk in, Marie understands the issue and says that she is entitled to some of the money as she does more cooking and cleaning around the house than Debra. Ray claims that Debra is padding the bill. Marie and Frank have a huge debate over the worth of their contribution towards the house. Robert sits in and shares thoughts on how net worth cases are tried in court in case of insurance claims. Everything like attractiveness, the kind of person you are, what kind of life you led, were you a happy person, did you bring joy to others, did you stop and smell the roses, is considered by the jury before deciding net worth. According to Robert, Ray just brings in the paycheck, but Debra makes the house a home. Debra is the primary caregiver and nurturer. Frank says the person bringing in the money is the king.
Marie says that Frank brought the paycheck, but she controlled the money. Frank never knew where the money went, including the loan of $2500 she gave Debra when she got married to Ray. For 30 years Marie has been giving money to buy books for children in South America. Whenever Frank got a little nosy, Marie would make him a heavy meal and he would right to sleep. Frank never knew about the money that Marie saved for the trip to Italy. Debra says that she paid Marie back in 2 weeks and they needed the loan to get over a rough patch when Ray's bonus did not come in. Turns out Debra is like Ray, and she controls the money in the house after Ray brings it in. She takes more decisions without telling Ray rather than the other way around.
