Very prescient

Warning: Spoilers
Jennifer Ringley guest stars as Joannecam, in this incredibly prescient episode of Diagnosis Murder. Rear Windows '98 debuted just over 25 years ago to this day, and 25 years is like 25,000 years in internet years. Rear Windows '98 really captures what lies ahead in the internet world and then some. For example, I chuckled when Steve asked "what's an earl?" when he saw URL. I chuckled when Mark wondered why people would want a webcam in their homes, etc, and I chuckled when Jesse had grand ideas to set up an internet portal for BBQ Bob's. Also a character mentioned "vegan", with this episode being one of the first to mention vegan. Docksing was also featured in a chilling part of this episode.

WRITER HAD THE MAIN CHARACTERS ACTING STUPID

Warning: Spoilers
I usually like Diagnosis murder but this episode had the detectives yelling about the murder in a crowded public restaurant and broadcasting their next move. One of them is a police lieutenant who would never do that. Naturally the serial killer was sitting at one of the tables listening. Then the doctor-detective who the killer has been stalking and terrorizing happily works alone in her dark basement office after hours and leaves her door wide open - with her back to the door. I understand that this was written in 1998 when people were just learning about the internet but there's no excuse for making your lead characters look like idiots. Hard to care about a murder mystery when the characters are too stupid to live.
