Remarkable band, great music, a pleasure to watch

While I agree with the other review that this makes fine listening music -- the video isn't vital to appreciate it -- I couldn't let the other review stand alone without commenting on how great the music is. The key point this is wonderful music.

This is a remarkable band -- tight, playful, playing a great show. And the video is a lot of fun to watch. No light show, no lasers, no distracting dancing but if you love seeing artists producing excellent art, you'll love the video.

I'm a fan of Bela's anyway but particularly like this show. Where else do you get to hear jazz bassoon? And I found the throat singing fascinating, though you need to listen on a decent system to hear everything going on.

These guys are tight, having fun and I loved the video.

Talented Musicians But Not Much To Watch

Although Bela Fleck and his group are somewhat interesting to view - and definitely a different kind of band - this is one of those DVDs that isn't much more than a CD. What I mean by that is that you could just listen to this while doing other things because the visuals here are nothing to watch. The band is not animated, there is no light show, nothing to make this an exciting show to see.

It's mostly, if not all, instrumental jazz music. The band members run the gamut from young and wild-looking to older and more traditional. They are all excellent musicians. The strangest part of this concert was when an Asian man appears for some "throat singing."

Overall, I was disappointed because I really like Fleck more when he's strutting his banjo and helping out others, such as Bruce Hornsby. Fleck is a great "picker" but his band here isn't anything exceptional watch. I'd stick with the CD.
