It was all going well for Amber Heard’s career until she wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, which led to a messy legal drama between her and her ex-husband Johnny Depp. While both actors’ careers were damaged during their feud, Depp’s has been on the mend, while Heard’s appears to have suffered irrevocable damages.

Movie and television credits are, by and large, self-explanatory. Actors act, directors direct, and designers design whatever it is they design. Some of these off-camera credits aren't always fully representative of who was most responsible for a film/show's artistic quality (the list of screenwriters denied credit via the Writers Guild of America's murky arbitration process is long and distinguished), but at least in theory, the casual viewer knows what these people did.
The same cannot be said of producers.
To the film and television fan who's never read a behind-the-scenes account of how these entertainments get made, the role of the producer can seem awfully nebulous. To people who've been covering the industry for decades, the role of each credited producer can at times seem equally unclear. What differentiates a producer from an executive producer? Doesn't "co-producer" sound an awful lot like an "associate producer?" Are all of these producers needed on set,...

Were one to ignore the courtroom-set events over the past handful of years that have served to define the personal life of Amber Heard, it would be hard to deny the fact that, despite a few run-of-the-mill performances, most notably as Mera in her various Snyderverse appearances such as “Aquaman, “the ex-Mrs. Johnny Depp has a decent level of talent onscreen, ranging from the horror of “All The Boys Love Mandy Lane” to the comedy of “Pineapple Express” to the sultry drama of “Magic Mike Xxl.” “In The Fire” could be considered another example of her potential, an imperfect lead role in a film that brazenly emulates a type of film seen countless times since “The Exorcist” spawned countless imitators in the half-century since.

Aquaman star Amber Heard has reportedly quit Hollywood and relocated to Spain less than a year after the conclusion of ex-husband Johnny Depp's defamation trial against the actor.
Per the Daily Mail, the 37-year-old actor has "quit" Hollywood and quietly relocated to Spain with her two-year-old daughter, Oonagh. "She’s bilingual in Spanish and is happy there, raising her daughter away from all the noise," a friend of Heard told the outlet. "I don’t think she is in any hurry to return to work or to Hollywood, but she will probably come back when the time is right for the right project." The actor, who is best known for playing Mera in the DC Universe, sold her home in Yucca Valley, California, in July 2022. She reportedly now owns a home outside Madrid.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, you’ll no doubt find a number of genre outlets running lists of horror movies to watch for the most romantic day of the year. Warm Bodies is likely to appear on most if not all of them, but there’s another reason to revisit the 2013 film this year: Lionsgate is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a 4K Ultra HD (with Blu-ray and Digital) edition in Steelbook packaging, available exclusively at Best Buy.
I realize Twilight is practically a pejorative on a horror site, but we probably wouldn’t have Warm Bodies if sparkling vampires hadn’t paved the way. Both films are coming-of-age romances with monsters based on young adult books. Warm Bodies has the added benefit of the proliferation of zombies in pop culture heralded by The Walking Dead, plus a sense of humor akin to Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland.

Amber Heard has a very small role in the movie Zombieland, but she plays a character who is quite crucial to the plot. The 2009 horror-comedy tells the goofy, charming story of Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) as he travels cross-country fighting the undead. It's set in a world in which mad cow disease has led to an apocalypse where people who get sick become zombies. While attempting to survive, Columbus is joined by the tough Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) and sisters Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) and Wichita (Emma Stone). Heard appears in just one scene, but it's among the movie's most humorous moments, setting the tone for the remainder of the story.
After her first film role as Maria in the 2004 football drama Friday Nights Light, Amber Heard appeared in the crime drama Alpha Dogs before breaking out in the 2009 slasher All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. She has never strayed too far...

Ever since 1985, brains have been on the menu in zombie movies. It wasn't enough that the living dead could tear you apart and feast on your flesh, now they'll use your skull as a serving dish. But what if eating brains connected you with the person you ate, and what if all that's needed to be human (again) is a connection?
That's one of the conceits behind "Warm Bodies," Jonathan Levine's fourth feature film and his second horror picture after "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane." Levine adapts Isaac Marion's 2010 novel of the same name, itself nodding to Shakespeare's romantic tragedy "Romeo and Juliet." The two households both alike in dignity in this story are humans and the living dead, eight years after the fall of civilization in a zombie apocalypse.

Hollywood actress Amber Heard says she does not want to play somebody who fits into a category easily because she does not fit into a category easily.
At present, Heard is seen essaying the role of Nadine Cross, who has retained her virginity because she thinks that she is destined for something "dark and unique", in the dark fantasy series, "The Stand". There is no set definition that can be used to describe her character, and that aspect drew Heard to the show.
"That is exactly why I wanted to play Nadine... because of that element. That dynamic that people do not know what to make of her, makes her an infinitely more interesting character for me, and a much more compelling character to play. It is much more interesting to me as an actor for me to take on and embody," Heard said.

Warm Bodies helmer Jonathan Levine is set to direct all eight episodes of Hulu’s anticipated tentpole limited series Nine Perfect Strangers, starring Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Samara Weaving, Luke Evans, Melvin Gregg, Grace Van Patten and Tiffany Boone. Levine also will executive produce the series, based on Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty’s book. The project hails from David E. Kelley, Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories, Kidman’s Blossom Films and Endeavor Content.
Co-written by Kelley, John Henry Butterworth and Samantha Strauss and co-showrun by Kelley and Butterworth, Nine Perfect Strangers takes place at a boutique health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation as nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living. Live-action remakes of classic Disney animated movies have been all the rage lately. From Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens to Guy Richie's most recent Aladdin starring Will Smith, Disney taking another swing at some of their classics doesn't seem like it's going to be ending any time soon. And speaking of which, today we have word that casting is starting to heat up for Disney's planned live-action Hercules movie with True Blood and The Legend of Tarzan star Alexander Skarsgard being the front-runner at this time.
But this Alexander Skarsgård casting news is all merely a rumor at this point in time.
And speaking of rumors, today's gossip has me wondering about a previous bit of business from a year or so ago that said Vikings and The Hunger Games star Alexander Ludwig was the top pick for the Greek God. While I have...

It’s a familiar enough pattern: a rising director helms one or two well-received indie films that hit big on the festival circuit, gets enough attention to hit up Hollywood, and signs on for a blockbuster feature or two. From Ryan Coogler to Chloe Zhao, it’s no longer news when a filmmaker jumps from Sundance to Marvel. But when filmmaker Jonathan Levine was in the mix to direct the latest iteration of “Spider-Man” after his well-reviewed festival hits “All the Boys Love Mandy Lane” and “The Wackness,” the director passed on the opportunity to take a different path: directing studio comedies.
Though Levine recently told IndieWire he interviewed “a few times” for the latest cinematic incarnation of “Spider-Man” — in 2015, he was rumored to be on a short list with other filmmakers like Ted Melfi and John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, before the gig went to Jon Watts...

Judging from our own comment section, both on the site and at Facebook, there aren't too many Amy Schumer fans visiting us on a daily basis. Either that, or they're staying hidden for fear of persecution. So our next story will either have some running and hiding, while others will be smiling from ear to ear as they race to the local theater to get a peek at Ms. Schumer's exposed breast this Friday in the new Mother's Day comedy Snatched. Yes, you heard that right. For the first time in a movie, the popular comedian is doing a nude scene of sorts. While we can't confirm that there will be nipples exposed, the comedian herself does confirm that the scene in question left her poor brother gagging. And apparently, he may never recover.
Amy Schumer is the first to take the sting out of any jokes coming her way.

It was back in 2009 that Australian writer-director Sean Byrne burst onto the scene with his debut feature film, The Loved Ones, igniting a firestorm of positive praise that seemed poised to light the world on fire for this brash and seemingly fully formed talent. But, praise or not, 2009 was a difficult time for the independent film industry, with business models and release platforms seemingly changing by the day and, much like fellow festival darling All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, The Loved Ones became a victim of the changing landscape, languishing on the shelf for a frustrating length of time while the industry-at-large tried to get their shit together and ultimately squandered all that love and leaving Byrne spinning his wheels for far,...

When I reviewed the original The Blair Witch Project, it was March of 1999. I saw it in Austin, in the apartment of a couple of my friends, thanks to Harry Knowles, who had been sent a VHS copy of the film by the filmmakers during its Sundance run. I went to Austin in February, and Harry had been sitting on his copy, waiting for us to get to town. We were there for the third Quentin Tarantino film festival at the still-young Alamo Drafthouse, and on the last night of the festival, my friends and I were set to hit the road as soon as the movies ended. We were road-tripping, and between the four of us, we figured we’d be able to do the entire drive back to La straight through with no stops for sleep. Harry asked us not to leave town right after the film, though.

To celebrate the release of True Deception – available on DVD 25th April – we have a copy to giveaway!
A stellar ensemble cast of James Franco (127 Hours), Ed Harris (Snowpiercer), Amber Heard (The Danish Girl), and Christian Slater (True Romance) stars in this semi-autobiographical story about a writer’s obsession with his own past and a real-life murder case. An unnerving thriller packed with stunning performances, shock twists, and psychological tension.
Director Pamela Romanowsky has also done a fantastic job in her feature debut, crafting a film that’s equally dark and complex as the source book, Stephen Elliot’s acclaimed memoir ‘The Adderall Diaries’. With its flashbacks and non-linear narrative, True Deception will have you second-guessing Elliot’s story every step of the way and promises to be one of the year’s most psychologically affecting thrillers. Not to be missed.

He’s given us the slasher film All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, the coming-of-age drama The Wackness, the comedy-drama 50/50 and the paranormal romantic zombie comedy Warm Bodies. Now, writer/director Jonathan Levine brings us his latest effort, The Night Before, which just might become a new Christmas classic.
The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie as a trio of friends who have spent the past fourteen years searching for a great time in New York City on Christmas Eve. But now that tradition is coming to an end as adulthood proves to be inescapable for two of them, and this Christmas Eve looks to be their last one together. Still, nothing’s going to stop them from attending the craziest and most exclusive Christmas party that New York City has to offer.

A bawdy and big-hearted stocking-stuffer for the adults used to enduring all manner of kid-friendly rubbish around the holidays, The Night Before is also much, much better than the movie it’s being sold as. Yes, this is an R-rated, drug-filled, profanity-laden comedy about three friends (Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie) who set out to end their annual tradition of Christmas Eve debauchery on a (very) high note. And yes, it totally follows through on that premise, taking said friends on an insane adventure through the snow-dusted streets of New York City as they struggle to make their way to that most hallowed of holiday bashes: the Nutcracka Ball.
But The Night Before is also the work of writer-director Jonathan Levine (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, The Wackness, 50/50, Warm Bodies), who has over the years proven himself remarkably proficient at taking just about any genre and cutting through all its B.

It was back in 2009 that Australian writer-director Sean Byrne burst on to the scene with his debut feature film, The Loved Ones, igniting a firestorm of positive praise that seemed poised to light the world on fire for this brash and seemingly fully formed talent. But, praise or not, 2009 was a difficult time for the independent film industry with business models and release platforms seemingly changing by the day and, much like fellow festival darling All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, The Loved Ones became a victim of the changing landscape, languishing on the shelf for a frustrating length of time while the industry-at-large tried to get their shit together and ultimately squandered all that love and leaving Byrne spinning his wheels for...

Trainwreck opened last weekend in the UK, where it managed a middling 5th place at the box-office. That’s not indicative of the movie’s global performance though, which has surged to $111 million in receipts.
That success is largely on the back of leading lady Amy Schumer’s sudden ascendancy. Earlier this summer she announced the next step in her meteoric rise as a mother/daughter caper flick, with Jonathan Levine now set to call the shots on that venture.
Levine’s a competent pair of hands (50/50 is great and his 2006 slasher All The Boys Love Mandy Lane is criminally under-seen), although he won’t be able to offer quite the same level of expertise as Schumer’s Trainwreck helmer Judd Apatow. Apatow courted Schumer for that gig, and forced her to make Trainwreck’s narrative semi-biographic, building the outrageous comedy on a bed of dramatic authenticity.

With the growth of technology over the past decade, it’s become possible for literally anybody to record a song, write a book or make a movie. With the inundation of content into the marketplace, it’s become more difficult than ever before for real filmmakers to get their work made, seen and, perhaps most significantly, monetized. Hollywood wants $300 million-budgeted tentpole comic book movies that will play as well in Beijing and New Delhi as they do in Muncie and Canoga Park. The indie film movement, once occupied by names like Quentin Tarantino, P.T. Anderson and Steven Soderbergh during its 1990s heyday, is basically non-existent now, those filmmakers having moved on to big-budget (or at least bigger than their salad days), more epic filmmaking. Many aspiring directors and producers find this landscape to be a bleak one, akin...

There are a lot of great movies arriving on VOD for the month of August, which should undoubtedly please all you genre fans who love to catch on some of the best indie horror and sci-fi titles from the comfort of your own homes. We kick things off with The Last Survivors from Dark Sky Films and the very same day, Uncork’d Entertainment is unleashing their werewolf flick Dark Moon Rising which stars Eric Roberts.
On August 7th, A24 is planning on taking viewers to some Dark Places, and we’ve got a handful of movies arriving in mid-month including the thriller Cop Car starring Kevin Bacon and the stylized revenge tale Final Girl featuring the always great Abigail Breslin. A few days later, SpectreVision’s The Boy arrives on VOD and one of my personal favorite films of 2015, the spunky post-apocalyptic action adventure tale Turbo Kid, will be released on August 28th.

When it comes to the Christmas comedy, there are two basic kinds. The warm, fuzzy version that's fit for grandparents and grandkids alike. Then there's the vulgar, raunchy adult comedy that would probably have too much eggnog and puke all over the warm and fuzzy version. Can you guess which side of the fence The Night Before starring Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anthony Mackie is on? Directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane), The Night Before features that trio of R-rated regulars playing friends who have long held an annual tradition of having a wild time in New York City on Christmas Eve. But since one of them is becoming famous (Mackie) and one is becoming a dad (Rogen), the tradition is going to come to an end. Instead of moaning...

I first became aware of cinematographer Darren Genet when I encountered his work on All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, a surprisingly lyrical and beautiful horror film that had more in common with the work of Terrence Malick and ’70s-era Peter Bogdanovich than with other teen slasher films. A year ago the trailers and stills were creeping online in the usual way in preparation for a September 5 release date. But then suddenly The Green Inferno, Eli Roth's first film as director since 2007's Hostel II was pulled from the schedules over internal problems at financiers Worldview Entertainment. It's been in limbo ever since, but is now finally set to emerge thanks to a new deal with Jason Blum's distribution label Bh-Tilt.A bit of notoriety never hurt any horror film in the long run, but sadly The Green Inferno's woes were nothing to do with its grisly content. The prosaic reasons were apparently due to Worldview's new CEO Molly Conners baulking at the publicity-spend commitments made by her outgoing predecessor Christopher Woodrow. The situation left Us horror fans crossing their fingers that Green Inferno wouldn't turn into another distribution farrago like All The Boys Love Mandy Lane,...

Before we even go any further, it's worth pointing out that the short lists for directors on big projects isn't always that accurate. For example, James Wan wasn't on a rumored list for Furious 7, nor was Scott Derrickson on the reported list for Doctor Strange, and both directors landed those projects. But it can be fun to speculate on a movie's future based on the names getting tossed around, and in the case of the new Spider-Man reboot, the list and its accompanying rumor is pretty telling. According to Deadline, Marvel and Sony have narrowed the competition down to six names, two of whom would be directing together. They are: Jonathan Levine (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Warm Bodies) Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) Ted Melfi (St. Vincent) Jason Moore...

New Line Cinema has picked up the upcoming memoir Home Is Burning from Dan Marshall in a competitive bidding situation, with Miles Teller set to star and Jonathan Levine attached to direct. Both the actor and filmmaker will also produce the adaptation for New Line. The book, which is Dan Marshall's first, will be published in October through Flatiron Books.
The plot follows the author as he has to move back home into his parents' basement, after finding out that his mother's cancer has relapsed and his father is diagnosed with Als. At the time, Marshall was a recent college graduate living in Los Angeles, when he returned to his family home and reunited with his four siblings, who The Hollywood Reporter describe as all "colorful characters with life challenges of their own." Together they formed "Team Terminal" to help their parents fight off the terminal afflictions.

A couple years ago, there was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal about the distribution trials behind Jonathan Levine’s first film, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, which changed hands four times before finally seeing a release seven years following its Tiff premiere. About Elly, Asghar Farhadi’s Silver Bear-winning precursor to A Separation, experienced a similar quagmire when its original distributor, Here Films, went out of business. Since 1988, the Midnight Madness slate at the Toronto International Film Festival has catered to a boisterous bunch of night-dwelling denizens looking for something off-beat from their Fest experience. Over the last quarter-century, selections have included films from legends such as George A. Romero and Dario Argento, and early films by the likes of Peter Jackson. Midnight Madness has even been the springboard for loads of directors, including Eli Roth.
What's unique about this genre slate is that it's programmed by a single individual. These are 10 films handpicked by one very knowledgeable host, Colin Geddes. A fan's fan, he's a guy that started out as a member of those early audiences, parlaying his passions into taking over from Noah Cowan back in 1998, shepherding it into one of the most entertaining and cinematically engaging aspects of this annual festival.
Moviefone Canada spoke to Colin over lunch days after this year's selection was announced.

It’s been quite a while since we posted anything on that Dead Island video game-to-film adaptation, but it looks like Occupant Entertainment and Deep Silver are digging it up again. It’s a role-playing survival game in which a highly infectious disease turns a resort full of people into zombies after which four immune survivors are tasked with tracking down supplies and finding a way to call for help. Not only has Dead Island sold over eight million units worldwide, but it’s also got an absolutely stunning Cannes Golden Lion-winning teaser trailer that even inspired a live-action remake. You can check out both trailers as well as more details about the possible film adaptation after the jump. Back in 2011, it was Lionsgate that snatched up the rights to the game, but the project stalled.
