It won’t be wrong to say that success is often measured by awards and accolades in the entertainment industry. But for Tom Cruise—the man who scaled the Burj Khalifa (remember the Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol sequence) and soared as Maverick—it seems that the true measure of achievement lies in the journey rather than the destination.
In a 2002 interview with Vanity Fair, the actor, now 61, revealed his deep desire to have a career-defining moment similar to Clint Eastwood’s Oscar-winning Western film Unforgiven. Arguably one of the greatest Western flicks of all time, Eastwood not only produced and directed this 1992 magnum opus but even starred in it.

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

The NCIS season finale ended on a big cliffhanger for Agent Jessica Knight (played by Katrina Law).
Much of the episode teased a terrible fate for Knight and Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole).
The duo was trapped in a ship that was destined to be sunk as an artificial reef. They had been locked inside by a murder suspect, and nobody knew their location.
Parker became seriously injured as the duo tried to find a way out, leading to Knight taking a swim through a dark passageway to find help.
Just before Knight drowned and Parker bled out, the rest of the team rescued them, ending that particular storyline. But that wasn’t the cliffhanger.
Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) had a job offer for Knight that would take her to Camp Pendleton – across the country from her current post.

The British singer-songwriter’s signatures have always been her powerhouse vocals, her confessional lyrics about heartbreak, and her unabashed emotion — she’ll make you cry or die trying. Her breakthrough came in 2008 with the release of her album “19,” which appropriately dropped when she was still 19-years-old. That collection was a modest hit — modest by her standards that is — peaking at number-four on the Billboard 200 albums chart and certified triple platinum in the US. It produced the single “Chasing Pavements,” which earned her her first Grammy noms for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and she won Best New Artist.
But that was just a hint of what was to come. Her next album, “21,” was a global phenomenon. Its lead single, “Rolling in the Deep,” became her first chart-topper in the US. The collection went 14-times platinum and swept the Grammys in 2012, including Album of the Year,...

People in the entertainment industry seem to get into awkward and embarrassing situations all the time, especially after getting drunk at some major events and afterparties. And while we do know that the first name to have popped into your mind after reading this must have been Jennifer Lawrence’s, this one’s about someone else entirely: Robert Pattinson.

As it turns out, Pattinson once got drunk enough to get into a fight after midnight with none other than the iconic diva who made her way to becoming one of the top artists in the music industry from scratch, Adele. And, unsurprisingly enough, things didn’t really turn out all too well for the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire star, as he later admitted just how much he regretted that encounter.

Taylor Swift is very easily at a career peak right now, at a level that most artists won’t ever come close to. Her popularity has skyrocketed ever since her “Eras” tour, which is the highest grossing tour of all time (and isn’t even over yet). Swift’s 2024 has already been quite busy, starting with two Grammys for “Midnights” in February, including a fourth Album of the Year award, which made her the first artist to win that many AOTYs, an impressive feat considering Swift’s career is not even 20-years-old yet. On top of that, Swift put out another new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” that will likely also compete for a win in that category and others. Now that the album has had some time to marinate in the pop cultural landscape, how do her chances look?

Update: A trailer for Never Let Go was shown during the Lionsgate panel at CinemaCon today, and JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance. Here’s a description of what he saw: “Halle Berry and her two kids are living in a cabin after the world ends. This cabin has a rope/pulley system & they must be attached to you when leaving the house. The monsters/entities (they are very vague on what the threat is but its something that is physical) can’t get you with the rope attached to you and so they (monsters?) are trying to convince one child to doubt the rope safety. They want them to detach and if so, we see that it would put them in grave danger. The kids are twins born in a house that they have never left because of the dangers on the outside. A big-budget series adaptation of a best-selling sci-fi epic, a new season of an acquired Peacock gem, a spinoff series of a Guy Ritchie crime feature, the return of one of the world’s most grueling reality competition shows, Millie Bobby Brown finding herself in all sorts of bother and Adam Sandler getting serious in a space drama are among the standout films and series hitting Netflix in March.

The two big original releases on Netflix this month are Spaceman and 3 Body Problem. In Spaceman, Adam Sandler plays an astronaut alone and far from home who desperately wants to fix things with his wife. When he discovers an enormous alien spider in the bowels of his ship, a conversation between the two gets underway, and Sandler has a chance to make some big changes. To be clear: this is not a comedy!
Meanwhile, new sci-fi series 3 Body Problem hails from Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Along with True Blood writer Alexander Woo, they’ve spun a tale that is set to blow your mind this March. Your mileage may vary, but it certainly looks interesting! Welcome back to the big orange room! While it was nice to get more of Torres' backstory, NCIS Season 21 Episode 1 felt a little bit of a backslide for Nick.
He got sober and was in a really good place after all of his sessions with Dr. Grace during NCIS Season 20.
He managed to get past his pain when Bishop and then Gibbs left. This felt like we were revisiting the old Nick.
But hopefully, this is a temporary setback, and with Riva gone, Nick can finally heal. It was terrific to meet his sister.
The actresses who played young Lucia and current Lucia were perfectly cast; they really looked similar -- nicely done casting people!
But the biggest shock of the episode was the lack of the elevator ding.
I count on hearing that ding every episode, and this is the first in my memory without it. I hope...

Here’s a trivia question for you: Who was the first person to win the Grammy for Album of the Year? It was legendary composer Henry Mancini, who won for the soundtrack to the television show “Peter Gunn.” Let’s take a look back at all of the albums that have claimed this coveted prize in music history.
The attributes of what makes a great album always vary but a well made album will always be viewed as a work of art. Great albums can just be an amazing collection of songs that flow together musically or they can be songs that collectively make a statement. After directing three “Night at the Museum” movies, Shawn Levy didn’t want to be confined to directing family comedies for the rest of his career. If you’re doing something successfully, he told IndieWire, it’s easy to be “pigeonholed” by Hollywood into that one thing.
But he’s been far from limited under the banner of his own production company, 21 Laps. Levy and his company have been prolific hit-makers since it launched in 2006, and he has produced and directed everything from indie darlings (“The Spectacular Now”), ambitious Best Picture nominees (“Arrival”), studio blockbuster satires (“Free Guy“), prestige limited series (“All the Light We Cannot See”), Stephen King horror movies (“The Boogeyman”), and the biggest Netflix show ever (“Stranger Things”), all of which depart from the family-friendly event movies on which he cut his teeth.
“You need to refuse to be limited by everyone else’s assumptions,” Levy told IndieWire during a recent interview.

NCIS has said goodbye to many beloved characters over the years.
Sadly, the series will have to say goodbye to Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard following David McCallum's death in September.
CBS and those close to the show have yet to reveal whether a tribute episode is in the works, but there's no way the series will proceed without a fitting tribute to an actor who brought so much to the show.
For a series that's been on the air for 20 years, there has been a lot of cast turnover, meaning the show has an excellent opportunity to bring back some people who have been long gone to help say goodbye to Ducky.
But who should return for the big event?

Whatever your answer is, how do you think that movie would stack up against a potential Men in Black and 21 Jump Street crossover? Do you think fusing a deadpan comedic Sci-Fi story with the irreverent over-the-top humor of a buddy cop movie would actually work well together and become an all-time great movie mash-up? Now, y’all remember that infamous Sony email hack that went down in November of 2014? Well, among the many pieces of news revealed during the data breach was Sony Pictures’ plans to potentially turn 23 Jump Street into a Men in Black franchise crossover event.

Update: We are getting a flood of phone calls tonight that Netflix’s B-roll filming of limited series The Perfect Couple in Nantucket was significantly disrupted by local SAG-AFTRA pickets.
We just heard from several local SAG-AFTRA actors and a local strike Captain in Nantucket there that when they learned of the production resuming shooting via permits –even without the series’ major cast– they smelled something fishy and headed to the Massachusetts island. Essentially, the word was out that the production was looking for people who were just driving cars. That’s a union actor’s job being taken away. “They’re messing with our money,” one Massachusetts actor tells Deadline tonight. Again, none of the major cast showed up to filming today.
It is unclear if Kidman and producers were aware of this B-roll shoot. Kidman was recently part of the group of celebrities who each donated $1M or...

Peter Atencio’s Hollywood chops have mainly been planted in the garden of comedy for his more than 20-year career — Key & Peele, the Jean-Claude Van Johnson series and this year’s satirical mobster film The Machine, to name a few.
But when old friends Phil Lord and Christopher Miller invited the 40-year-old helmer to direct what he was told would be one of the most complex and challenging episodes of the second season of The Afterparty — Apple TV+’s whodunnit murder mystery series — he tells The Hollywood Reporter that a more dramatic approach was needed to get to the core of the funny.
How serious can directing comedy get? Atencio breaks it down for The Hollywood Reporter in a recent Zoom interview.

Morgan Wallen continues to dominate the Billboard 200 albums chart. His “One Thing at a Time” spent its 14th week at number-one for the tracking week that ended on June 22. That’s the most weeks any album has occupied the top spot since Adele‘s “21” more than a decade ago. “21” spent a total of 24 weeks in first place between 2011 and 2012, so “One Thing” has a while to go before it reaches that mark. Read more about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.
“One Thing at a Time” achieved another 110,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales, and online streaming performance. That’s down just one-percent from last week. The album has accumulated six-figure album units in all 16 of its weeks on the chart so far, matching Bad Bunny‘s “Un Verano Sin Ti” from 2022. The BET Awards ceremony went without a host for its performance-heavy telecast Sunday on BET from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Coco Jones, Burna Boy, Latto and Beyoncé Knowles were among the artists who scored wins at this year’s celebration of music, film, television and sports.
This year’s awards show packed the broadcast with music performances honoring the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, along with highlighting the year’s top talent. Only a fraction of the awards were announced during the live show.
Performer Lil Uzi Bert opened the show alongside hip-hop legends The Sugarhill Gang, who performed their hit “Rapper’s Delight.” Other highlights included tributes to Tupac Shakur and Biz Markie, along with Migos collaborators Quavo and Offset reuniting onstage to pay tribute to their late bandmate Takeoff (who died in November). Warren G. performed “Regulate” and Tyga went back to his hit song “Rack City.

After a couple of weeks dropped down to the number-two spot, country singer Morgan Wallen‘s “One Thing at a Time” is back at number-one for a 13th nonconsecutive week. For the tracking week that ended on June 15, “One Thing” achieved 111,500 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales, and online streams, with streaming accounting for the vast majority of his units, as usual. Read more about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.
In the last 10 years only three other albums besides “One Thing at a Time” have spent 13 weeks at number-one: the “Frozen” soundtrack, Drake’s “Views,” and Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti.” The last time an album spent longer at number-one was Adele’s “21,” which was on top for a whopping 24 total weeks between 2011 and 2012.

Foo Fighters released their new album “But Here We Are” on June 2 to some of the best reviews of their career, but it was a bittersweet occasion. The album pays tribute to bandmate Taylor Hawkins, who died in 2022, as well as to frontman Dave Grohl‘s mother, who passed a few months later. However tragic the circumstances, though, the music press is applauding their artistic accomplishment, and the band’s industry peers may follow suit with a Grammy nom for Album of the Year.
The hard rock band has surged into 10th place in our odds as of this writing. Those odds are calculated from the combined predictions of Gold Derby users who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. And there’s plenty of precedent for it. Foo Fighters have been nominated for Album of the Year twice before, for “Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace ” in 2008 and...
