Proving decisively that social media chatter and hyperbolic headlines don’t define a film’s popularity, The Amateur made a strong push towards the $100 million milestone at the worldwide box office after just three weeks of release in theaters worldwide. Would anybody have expected it to do this well? It’s common for films designed for home video consumption to be given theatrical runs these days, even if they’re for publicity reasons. Just look at Den of Thieves 2: Pantera and The Accountant 2. Remarkably, The Amateur has grossed more globally than either of those films, despite appearing exactly like the kind of dad movie that will find an even bigger audience on PVOD.
In fact, its success serves as a curious counterpoint to Steven Soderbergh’s recent complaints about the underperformance of his film Black Bag, which couldn’t crack the $40 million mark worldwide despite unanimous praise and a...

Living next door to an action-movie star sounds glamorous until a helicopter drops onto the paddock behind your garden wall. Residents living near the home of British hard-nut action hero Jason Statham have been made to feel they were in the middle of one of his blockbuster movies recently, and it seems they have had enough of it.
According to a report in The Sun – naturally - Statham and his glamorous partner, model, designer, and former Transformers star, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, have been taking an unusual mode of transport recently – a twin-engine helicopter. You know, the kind of thing that is usually seen airlifting bad guys off skyscrapers and then being blown up by the hero in every action movie worth its salt. However, when one lands in the middle of a sports field next to a riding school, disturbs the peace and frightens the horses, then it is just not on,...

"She's not who I thought she was...! She's a total badass secret agent." Magenta Light Studios (a brand new distributor in town) has revealed the first official trailer for Bride Hard, a totally ridiculous action comedy arriving in theaters nationwide in June this summer movie season. A very cheesy concept mashup - take a spy comedy and wrap up with a wedding comedy about a maid of honor who also happens to be an assassin, and here we go. Also looks similar to JLo's Shotgun Wedding last year. It's directed by action movie veteran Simon West. This summer – you are invited to one unforgettable wedding. "Grab your bride or die." When a mercenary group takes a lavish wedding hostage, they have no idea what they are in for as the Maid of Honor is actually a secret agent ready to rain hell-fire upon anyone who dares to ruin her best friend's wedding.

When you think of Jason Statham, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? If it’s a fit bald dude beating the shit out of a nameless goon, good. That means we’re on the same page. Range is not Jason Statham’s forte, nor would we expect his characters to be able to spell “forte”. But the man has marked himself as maybe The action star in modern movies. And that’s good enough for us and his millions of fans. As Frank Martin said in The Transporter: Never change the deal.
Jason Statham was born on July 26th, 1967 in Shirebrook, England. A natural and gifted athlete, Statham was competing in everything from football to diving (he would later be inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame). Then came modelling because, well, look at that jawline!
But it was the screen he was destined for.

A Working Man made its debut on digital platforms at the end of last week, but that hasn’t stopped the film from continuing to earn at the box office. Jason Statham’s latest action vehicle now sits at $36 million at the domestic box office and $51 million internationally for a worldwide cumulative total of $87 million. While this is still significantly less than The Beekeeper, the latest action movie collaboration between Statham and director David Ayer, it is enough to make it one of Statham’s 20 highest-grossing movies ever. Despite mixed reactions from fans and critics — 49% score from critics and 87% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes — A Working Man has passed Snatch, which also stars Brad Pitt, to reach Statham’s top 20 list.
If A Working Man can scrounge together another $2 million at the global box office, it will move past Transporter 2 to become the 19th-highest-grossing Jason Statham movie of all time,...

Actor Jason Statham and Hollywood mainstay Sylvester Stallone have collaborated on six feature films together. They starred opposite each other in four "Expendables" movies (with Statham taking the lead over Stallone for the abysmal "Expend4bles"), and Statham starred in the Stallone-scripted "Homefront" in 2013. Most recently, Stallone wrote the script for the 2025 David Ayer-directed Statham vehicle "A Working Man." The pair, one can infer, know each other's work very well.
Statham, 57, has long been one of cinema's most reliable badasses, often playing cops, mercenaries, assassins, killer, or other ultra-capable dolers of violence. He has done a lot of his own stunts, and he ran down his injuries in a 2023 interview with Collider. He did a real helicopter stunt for the movie "Crank," which he said was quite difficult, and he recalled having to actually jump from a moving jetski onto the back of a speeding bus in "Transporter 2." Surprisingly,...

Of all the free streaming services with two-syllable nonsense names, Tubi is emerging as the most popular. The platform, which is owned by the Fox Corporation, has the most monthly active users of any ad-supported streaming platform, with 97 million. It's also a goldmine of beloved TV shows from decades ago. You can watch everything from "Gilligan's Island" to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on Tubi, and the ad breaks are mercifully few and far between. Tubi also has some great horror movies, which altogether makes the platform a somewhat attractive proposition.
Much like the paid streamers, Tubi also tracks trending entertainment, and it seems Jason Statham is the latest star to see one of his movies rise up the rankings on the free streamer. But he hasn't done it alone. The British action star has had a bit of help from Jennifer Lopez, with the pair's 2013 action thriller, "Parker," managing to...

Jason Statham will always be known as one of the most iconic action actors of all time, but there have been some movies over the years that allowed him to flex his comedy muscles. One of those films is Spy, the 2015 slapstick comedy in which Statham stars alongside Jude Law and Melissa McCarthy. Spy also happens to be Statham’s highest-rated movie of his career, according to Rotten Tomatoes, with a 95% from critics on the aggregate site. Now that Spy is 10 years old, a blooper reel from behind the scenes of the film has resurfaced and gone viral online, showing Statham and his co-stars unable to keep it together while reading some of the film’s ridiculously hilarious dialogue. The full reel can be found below, with Statham’s first clip starting around the 2:00 mark.

Few Hollywood movie stars have had an illustrious and celebrated career quite like Jason Statham, with the beloved action hero starring in a slew of silver-screen knockouts over his more than two decades in show business. From thrilling flicks like Crank, The Mechanic, and Wrath of Man to fan-favorite franchises such as Transporter, The Expendables, and Fast & Furious, Statham has made a respected name for himself as one of the cinema's most fearless and commanding performers.
For the 2025 action thriller A Working Man, Statham reunited with both director David Ayer (The Beekeeper) and his Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone to help bring the popular Chuck Dixon novel Levon's Trade to life, with the gripping film following an ex-Royal Marines commando as he attempts to live a quiet existence with his daughter only to be pulled back into his former life when a teenager is kidnapped by human traffickers. Some cinephiles experience movies in such a way that they refuse to accept that certain films can be made with the simple goal of entertaining their target audience, vehemently arguing that every single flick must leave an unbelievably memorable impact on viewers. Personally, I believe the seventh art has room for all kinds of stories, so I find this way of thinking and watching cinema rather restrictive and quite selfish. This preface serves to justify the moderate, superficial expectations for A Working Man, directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad), co-written by Ayer himself and Sylvester Stallone (Creed II), and starring Jason Statham (The Beekeeper).
Levon Cade (Statham) left behind a decorated military career in covert operations to live a simple life in construction. But when his boss’ daughter is taken by human traffickers, his quest to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he could have ever imagined.

A Working Man may be the Jason Statham-iest film ever to Stath. With its man-on-a-mission, hunt-for-a-kidnapped-girl narrative, it borrows wholeheartedly from the likes of Commando and Taken, and effectively steals from John Wick in the “weapons sommelier” played by David Harbour. But this is first and foremost a Jason Statham film, boiled down to its essential ingredients — losing all flavour and substance in the process.
Statham ostensibly plays a character called Levon Cade, but in a very real, more accurate sense, he plays a character called ‘Jason Statham’: a tough guy with a mysterious military past and an unplaceable Essex-by-way-of-Beverly-Hills accent who dispatches a succession of forgettable goons in order to save the day. It is exactly the same type found in all his recent roles, often in films with similar job-title titles: The Mechanic, The Transporter, The Beekeeper.
The last — which featured the appalling line, “To bee or not to bee!

Jason Statham is one of the most bankable action stars when it comes to making repeated appearances on free streaming charts with his older movies. Despite many of these movies being panned by critics, being originally released over a decade ago, and appearing on multiple streaming platforms simultaneously, it is hard not to stumble across one of them when looking at lists of what people are watching. Statham’s brand of loud, brash, and brutal action movie has found a perfect home on free streaming charts, with movies like The Mechanic, Parker, and many others appearing time and time again. Now, the 2012 movie Safe is once again beating up the competition on Freevee.
While audiences usually cannot get enough of the British actor, critics have always been a little more skeptical about the films he leads. Safe is one of the rare occasions that audiences and critics were completely unanimous...

Waltz and Lucy Liu lead this tale of an assassin grudgingly mentoring a younger up-and-comer, but their strong turns can’t fire up the ho-hum story
Action legend Simon West has put together a pretty moderate comedy-thriller with screenwriter Greg Johnson; the collective star power in its (undoubtedly) impressive cast isn’t quite strong enough to make it come alive. It is set in Belfast and Northern Ireland — perhaps because of production funding requirements. There is a slightly weird moment in which Lucy Liu’s character, speaking from a bar in London’s Soho, says wistfully of Belfast: “I’ve always wanted to go there … it’s got a great music scene.” Perfectly true, of course, but there is something rather autopilot about the way she delivers the line.

Ranking any performer's filmography comes with the need for at least some clarification, and that's especially true when it comes to action stars. Are they being ranked on the performance, the amazing action they deliver, or on the quality of the film as a whole? Are all films eligible or just the ones where the performer has a lead role? Does more action automatically land a film higher on the list? Does the person doing the ranking have impeccable taste when it comes to action cinema?

The action comedy Old Guy is an interesting take on two genres that audiences have grown accustomed to over the decades. The movie follows aging assassin Danny Dolinski (played by Christoph Waltz) as he's forced to train a much younger replacement, Wilhborg (Cooper Hoffman). Alongside Wihlborg and his close friend Anata (Lucy Liu), Danny learns about more important things in life and the film reveals itself to be heartwarming as well as funny.

The Beekeeper star Jason Statham continues to fly the flag for wonderfully no-nonsense action movie fare, and his next movie, the Jean-François Richet directed Mutiny, has now been given a release date. Sadly, it’s going to be a little while before we catch The Stath’s next violent vendetta.
As per a report by Deadline, Mutiny will land in theaters next year on January 9, 2026, with Lionsgate putting Statham’s latest action thriller up against Universal’s M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te, which releases the week before on January 2. Other than that, the path is clear for Mutiny to make a killing at the box office on its opening weekend.
Mutiny sees Statham in the role as both star and producer as he joins forces with the director behind 2023’s Gerard Butler-led Plane, Jean-François Richet, with the action outing finding The Mechanic star on the run while uncovering a major global conspiracy.

For over two sensational decades, beloved Hollywood leading man and bona fide action superstar Jason Statham has been thrilling moviegoers all across the world with his dazzling physical prowess and undeniable charm. In 2013, he continued his silver screen takeover when he starred in the taut action film Homefront, in which he appears as a retired DEA agent who moves to a remote Louisiana town with his young daughter to start a new life, only to have his checkered past catch up with him and cause more trouble.
With a stellar cast of fellow cinema greats including James Franco, Winona Ryder, and Frank Grillo, the criminally-underrated thriller performed solidly at the box office but nonetheless failed to achieve the recognition (or Rotten Tomatoes score) it rightfully deserved. Jason Statham has done a violent dance movie villains on land, sea, and occasionally even in the air, but in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, he relies a little more on some witty banter than straight-up bruiser tactics to deal with his adversaries. The British tough guy leads Guy Ritchie’s action caper, which sees him teaming up with Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Josh Hartnett, and a movie-stealing Hugh Grant in full Trump-tan, and pulls out a performance that audiences loved when the film was originally released in 2023.
The film operates in familiar territory for anyone who has followed Statham’s roles in his spy-orientated mode. This time around, he stars as Orson Fortune, a covert operative whose skill set and deadpan snark make comparisons to a certain British super spy inevitable, even if he likes to get a little more down and dirty than any 007 ever did. According to FlixPatrol, two weeks after being added to Max, Mechanic: Resurrection came in at #7 on the streamer's Top 10 list. Released in 2016, Resurrection sees Statham back in the role of Arthur Bishop, who had foolishly thought he had been able to put his murderous past behind him. However, when his most formidable foe kidnaps the love of his life, he is forced to travel the globe to complete three impossible assassinations, and do what he does best, make them look like accidents.

Much like the action movie icon Jason Statham himself, his panned 2016 sequel refuses to die on streaming. The Stath has become well-renowned for flying the flag for old school action fare, with the actor and martial artist demonstrating his particular set of skills in his return as Arthur Bishop in 2016’s Mechanic: Resurrection, which has now found success on its new streaming home.
Following on from the first The Mechanic, a remake of the 1972 film of the same name starring Charles Bronson, Mechanic: Resurrection finds Statham doing what he does best after his attempt at a quiet life is thrown into chaos when a figure from his past returns. Directed by Dennis Gansel and written by Philip Shelby and Tony Mosher, and starring Tommy Lee Jones, Jessica Alba and Michelle Yeoh alongside The Stath, Mechanic: Resurrection is now #7 in the top 10 on Max (formerly HBO Max). It is several months since one of Jason Statham's most underrated action movies landed on free streaming, and now it is heading back up the Tubi chart yet again. Statham’s brand of loud, brash, and brutal action movie has found a perfect home on free streaming charts with movies like The Mechanic, Parker, and many others appearing time and time again. Now it is the turn of 2012 movie Safe to kick its way into the Tubi Top 10.
Statham has stuck his battered and bruised fingers in many pies in the last decade, from franchises like The Expendables and Fast & Furious, to his own vehicles such as The Beekeeper and his upcoming A Working Man. While audiences usually cannot get enough of the British actor, critics have always been a little more skeptical about the films he leads. Safe is one of the rare occasions that audiences and...

As strange as it is, moviegoers are fascinated by the assassin. Paid handsomely for their skills of stealth, marksmanship, martial arts, and general wanton violence, these contract killers have been the focus of some of the most thrilling and emotionally provocative films ever made.
Maybe it's because many of these hit-people share many viewers' relationship to their own work -- a disdain for the spiritually emptying but financially necessary professions that command much of their life. Maybe it's because a criminal mastermind of this nature -- so devoid of humanity that they reduce human lives to zeros in a bank account -- reveals more about the world around them than any other character type.
Or maybe it's because we just like watching people fight with guns and swords. In any case, we've put together our own hit-list of flicks featuring them, ranked based on their quality, legacy, and depiction of these captivating killers.

February will bring several new additions to Max's streaming library, including a Jason Statham-led action movie sequel. Perhaps frustratingly, its predecessor will not be joining it.
On Feb. 1, 2016's Mechanic: Resurrection will be hitting Max. Directed by Dennis Gansel, the film is a sequel to the 2011 movie The Mechanic, which was itself a remake of Charle Bronson's 1972 actioner of the same name. Mechanic: Resurrection was a box office success, earning over $125 million worldwide – a sizable improvement over the first movie's haul of $76 million. For some fans of Statham, however, the movies are still best enjoyed together, so Max subscribers looking to first watch 2011's The Mechanic won't be able to do so on the same streaming platform in February.

With a 25-year career on his shoulders, director Simon West seems to have a knack for helming remakes. He first set out to bring 1979’s When A Stranger Calls to a present-day audience in 2006. Seeing the decent success that it had at the box office, he then aimed to adapt an even more prestigious title from the '70s, Charles Bronson’s The Mechanic. Actor (and all-around tough guy) Jason Statham was announced to be in the lead role soon after the project was initially developed. The film was praised by critics and welcomed by audiences as well when it was released in January 2011.
Seeing how West was on a roll with reboots, he saw it fitting to continue digging deeper into this filmmaking niche. Could he pull off three successful remakes, though? When it came to his modern take on a 1986 neo-noir thriller, Heat (based on a novel of...

Jason Statham is a man who knows how to please a crowd, and even if his movies are hammered into the ground by critics, he can manage to blast his way to a spectacular victory every time. While he found huge critical and commercial success with 2024’s collaboration with director David Ayer on The Beekeeper, back in 2016, Mechanic: Resurrection was buried under the weight of a 31% Tomatometer score, but now the film just refuses to lay down and die on the free streaming platform, Tubi.
Following up his 2011 hit, The Mechanic, it was a no-brainer for Statham to reprise his role as Arthur Bishop, a master assassin coerced out of retirement to carry out more increasingly impossible hits. The movie has plenty of the usual intense and over-the-top action sequences, accompanied by a simple plot, and plenty of the usual Statham swagger to boot. Action icon and The Beekeeper star Jason Statham is transformed into a video game icon in this concept trailer for a potential Hitman adaptation. Taking footage from Statham’s previous movies, the much-maligned Hitman movies that have already been made, and using a touch of AI (shudder), the footage (via Screen Trailers) demonstrates what a movie led by The Stath as Agent 47 could look like. And no doubt fans of The Mechanic star will be hoping it becomes reality.
The Hitman video games, which follow the mysterious assassin Agent 47 as he travels the world taking out targets assigned to him by the even more mysterious International Contract Agency (Ica), has already been adapted for the big screen twice before. But neither has really satisfied fans of the game, action fans, or, well, anyone, really.

The Transporter is one of Jason Statham’s most iconic action movie franchises, but it remains unclear if he’ll ever play Frank Martin again in Transporter 5. The franchise debuted in 2002 with the release of The Transporter, which marked Statham’s first headlining role in a major action vehicle. The titular stoic mercenary-turned-driver quickly became the defining role of Statham’s career and opened the door to other opportunities in the genre. Not only did he go on to star in other action films like War, Crank, and The Mechanic; he reprised his role as Frank in two more Transporter movies.
The trilogy got bigger, bolder, and better with each movie. 2005’s Transporter 2 expanded the scope with even more bonkers action scenes and 2008’s Transporter 3 became the highest-grossing entry in the series. The Transporter franchise continued after that, with a fourth film and a TV spinoff, but Statham never played Frank again.

Jason Statham is one of the most recognizable action stars of this century, but his highest-rated film is actually a comedy. Jason Statham's filmography includes popular franchises such as Fast & Furious, The Expendables, and The Mechanic, in addition to a plethora of standalone action movies. While the actor does prioritize action films over other genres, Statham has also appeared in several comedy movies. Statham's best comedy movies include Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Mean Machine, and a 2015 film with 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Upon its release, Spy became Statham's highest-rated movie. In addition to Statham, the cast of Spy includes Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Rose Byrne, Miranda Hart, and Bobby Cannavale. It seems that two Jean-Claude Van Dammes are worth one Jason Statham, as the Muscles from Brussels’ 1991 panned action thriller Double Impact has become the most-watched movie on Tubi this New Year, narrowly beating another resurgence for Statham’s equally panned sequel, Mechanic: Resurrection. Heading into 2025, this clearly proves that action is still the name of the game on free streaming platforms, just like it has been for several years now.
While Double Impact initially arrived on Tubi 12 days ago, the film lay low over the festive period before quickly ascending the chart as January 1 approached. Quick Links Jason Statham Had Six Consecutive Flops Before The Expendables 2 How The Expendables 2 Restored His Winning Streak
When it comes to action films, stars like Keanu Reeves or Tom Cruise may come to mind first, but Jason Statham is arguably as well-known in the genre. Beginning with the Transporter trilogy, the actor has been renowned for his effortlessly cool-looking martial arts and has been in numerous other successful action franchises, including The Expendables, Crank, Fast & Furious, and The Mechanic.
Having said that, most people are unaware that, despite his unrivaled success in the Transporter films, Statham experienced a long, exhausting descent in his career during the early 2010s, when six of his movies flopped in succession. Nonetheless, he rose from the ashes to reestablish himself as the action king, eventually appearing in some of the most entertaining films, including Spy, Fast & Furious, and The Beekeeper.
