Where have all the flowers gone?

This is theater - do not expect to be "entertained" in the movie sense - and do not expect a bunch of jokes. The over the top imagery and dialog is leavened with real quotes from news outlets and uncensored stories (Jessica Lynch). This is a very black comedy, an emotional ride. The laughs come out of the discomfort not slapstick. The "America - Love It or Leave It" crowd will be up in arms. I know there will be many who dispute the truth of the message that Tim Robbins is conveying. This will be attacked as unAmerican, unpatriotic, ungrateful, and slanderous. I for one, am glad Mr. Robbins has had the courage to produce this.

    Not Funny

I rented this movie because I saw Tim Robbins on David Letterman offering, in effect, that this was a very funny satire. All I got from it was a display of anger and resentment which, in my opinion, did not even rise to the level of a parody. I love antiwar movies which actually poke fun at the absurdity of conflict (the epitome "Dr. Strangelove"). Some thought probably should have gone into this endeavor before attempting to make a statement. I imagine it appeals to the extreme left folksiness.

Incidentally, I inferred from the previews that the film was not offensive to the rank and file soldier. Every element of the film was offensive to all of the military in my opinion. Should we anticipate "Embedded 2".
