most of what I learned was about what the directors had to direct
lee_eisenberg5 December 2007
OK, so Chuck Jones's "One Froggy Evening" may be the most famous one-shot cartoon ever to come out of Warner Bros. Probably the most interesting thing that I learned from "Behind the Tunes: It Hopped One Night - A Look at 'One Froggy Evening'" was about the number of cartoons that each director had to direct. Each director had to direct a certain number of shorts starring Bugs, Daffy and Porky, then they got to direct a couple starring their own characters (Chuck Jones had The Three Bears, Pepe Le Pew, Marvin the Martian and Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote; Friz Freleng had Sylvester/Tweety, Yosemite Sam and Speedy Gonzales; Robert McKimson had Foghorn Leghorn, Hippety Hopper and Tasmanian Devil), and then they got to direct one or two extra ones. So, Chuck Jones used this opportunity to create one of the most impressive shorts that I've ever seen. As for the documentary itself, it was OK otherwise, but I still say that the info about each director's requirement was the most eye-opening part.

an OK featurette about a great cartoon
movieman_kev31 October 2005
This 7 minute documentary on the classic animated short "One Froggy Evening" can be found in Disc 4 of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 2. It features interviews with people associated with it and other people that are merely praising the short. It has a few nuggets of information. but why didn't they even mention the sequel to the short which was the Chuck Jones directed "Another Froggy Evening" that he had made?? Aside from that curious point, the short documentary featurette was serviceable enough, although not as good as other "Behin the Tunes" featurettes

My Grade: B-

"It Croaked One Year: A Look at . . . "
tadpole-596-9182566 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
" . . . One Toadie New Yorker" may NOT be the title of this Looney Tunes documentary short, but it might as well be. As one Talking Head says during IT HOPPED ONE NIGHT, this Merrie Melodies Cartoon (ONE FROGGY EVENING) is "a wonderful parable of greed." What better way to sum up this Trump bozo's successful campaign for U.S. President? On TV June 1, it was revealed that "Delay Delay Delay" has been the tactic used against multiple lawsuits involving "Frump U" (a contraction for the Fraudulent Trump University). Why delay if you have nothing to cover up? Not one of the million certified tax accountants say that this self-proclaimed but bogus "billionaire" has a valid "Audit" excuse NOT to release his income tax returns, as every President has done since George Washington. Only a bigger Pyramid Schemer than Bernie Madoff would have reason to hide his contribution to the American Budget. Yet the U.S. is on the verge of inaugurating someone as Leader of the Free World who's LESS qualified than Michigan J. Frog! I expect that this comment MUST be read BEFORE Jan. 20, 2017, since the current Vegas Over\Under for Earth's Survival with Commander-in-Chief Trump is 60 Minutes.

A Famous Cartoon Still Draws A Lot Of Comments
ccthemovieman-115 June 2007
This was a very informative discussion about one of the most famous cartoons in history: "One Froggy Night," a memorable animated short in which a talented dancing-musical frog came to life and tormenting its owner by not performing on request (better you see it that reading about it).

A lot of people give us comments in this short feature: from film historians to film critics to animators including Chuck Jones, the director of this famous cartoon. He talks about the "discipline" it took just to have the frog talk and no one else.

Leonard Maltin had a good comment about how amazing this was considering this character only appeared once in the history of cartoons....and yet is so well-remembered.

The "feature" can be found on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume Two DVD.

Warner Bros. manages to cram in 10 men . . .
oscaralbert19 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
. . . for this Michigan J. Frog "roast," IT HOPPED ONE NIGHT. There's that ubiquitous Expert on Everything, Leonard Maltin. There's a couple of other critics, too. There's a music historian. There's a trio of guys involved with making cartoons today. There's a couple of animators who helped draw Michigan J. Frog's sole Looney Tunes appearance, ONE FROGGY EVENING. There's even a few sound-bites from the guy who directed and baptized Master Frog, Chuck Jones. There's just one thing lacking here: Warnologists. If such vital functionaries had been involved in IT HOPPED ONE NIGHT, they surely would have warned the others that 2004 was perhaps TOO SOON to decipher the Real Meaning of Warner's 1955 Michigan J. Frog outing. While several of the "Talking Heads" here classify ONE FROGGY EVENING as a General Parable about Greed, Warnologists were telling the People of Michigan by the fall of 2010 NOT to elect self-described "Business Nerd" Rick Snyder, the Rich People's Party Bean Counter, to the Wolverine State's Governor's Seat (just as Warnologists are saying today NOT to repeat Michigan's Mistake on a national scale by electing someone of Snyder's ilk as U.S. President). In 2010, Warner Bros.' Michigan J. Frog warning fell upon Deaf Ears, and Snyder took over, eventually instituting a Liquidation Policy waged against Normal Working Class Michiganders, involving Unelected Czars switching Blue Collar cities from Pure Great Lakes Drinking Water to a Muddy Lead-Poisoned Super-Fund-Site Ditch Broth teeming with Legionnaire's and Other Fatal Diseases. Bean Counter Snyder also had his henchman raise his victim's "water" bills to the highest in America! Is it any wonder that Michigan J. Frog croaks?
