There’s no doubt that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League once was an interesting project by Rocksteady. But, since its launch back in February, the game has quickly become infamous as one of the first big disappointments of the year. Right from the controversial decision to even make the game a single-player live service title to horrendous character choices, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has left a fork for Rocksteady as a developer.
Fans have been desperate for a game like Batman: Arkham Knight for years. Many believed that if Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice followed the same formula as the Batman title, it would’ve gone down in gaming history as one of the best. However, there’s still a chance for Rocksteady to make a comeback by finally using the Ninja Turtles IP combined with its experience with Arkham Knight.

It’s the 35th anniversary of the first-ever video game based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While fans might have fond memories of the arcade title Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time from 1991, or perhaps a sense of nostalgia for the 1990 Game Boy release Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan, it was that Nes that initially debuted the titular crime-fighters in the medium.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of 1989 fame is an infamous entry into the comic book characters’ video game library. Developed by Konami and released by Ultra Games in North America (and Palcom and U.S. Gold throughout European territories), the game was both utterly bizarre in its concepts and nearly impossibly difficult in its execution. This retro experience from a bygone era left many players frustrated.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise has been rolling and evolving non-stop since the original Mirage Studios comic book series was adapted into an animated series in 1987 and a live-action blockbuster movie in 1990, which essentially created the modern superhero comedy. Since then, there have been a variety of sequels and reboots in film and television, including the stellar animated overhaul that impressed the hell out of us in "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" last year. But we're about to get another live-action "Tmnt" movie that will adapt one of the darkest comic book storylines in the franchise's history.
Paramount Pictures will be turning the hit comic book miniseries "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin" into a live-action movie. This is a huge deal, especially since The Hollywood Reporter says it'll be R-rated, a first for the franchise. Tyler Burton Smith is set to write the screenplay, with Walter Hamada producing.

Seth Rogen has carved out a very unique niche for himself. As a producer, Rogen has been at the helm of some very successful adaptations of superhero comics like Invincible, The Boys, Tmnt, and Gen V. However, the actor-producer has been public about his reluctance towards working with superhero giants like Marvel and DC, but it looks like that might change with the latest project that he has put in development.
Venom, as he appears in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
It has been reported that Seth Rogen is developing yet another Spider-Man universe, this time focused on Venom, in the form of an R-rated animated film, which will be distinct from Tom Holland’s MCU Spider-Man, Tom Hardy’s Sony Venom series of films and Sony’s animated Spider-Verse films. Given Rogen’s track record with R-rated comic book properties, it seems the project is in good hands, which...

General Iroh of the Fire Nation is one of the most beloved characters to come out of the Avatar franchise. Through his wisdom and compassion shown towards those around him, along with the badass monicker of the Dragon of the West, Iroh cemented himself as one of the most interesting characters in the show.
Uncle Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender
Mako Iwamatsu was the voice of General Iroh at the beginning of the series, but the voice actor sadly passed away in 2006, which prompted Greg Baldwin to take over the role from his mentor. Baldwin took over the role of Iroh, along with a myriad of roles that were under Iwamatsu, such as Aku from Samurai Jack, and Master Splinter from Tmnt.

This article contains spoilers for Invincible season 2 episode 5.
The best comic book superheroes tend to stick around awhile. DC’s Batman has been fighting crime in Gotham City since 1939. Marvel’s Spider-Man has been slinging webs since 1962. Even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, originally launched as a satire of the genre in 1984, are now an established squad and have been for some time.
Along with that longevity, however, often comes an uncertain continuity. There are dozens of versions of Batman, Spider-Man, and the Tmnt that exist across countless storylines in comics, television, film, and beyond. One recent comic book character, however, has no such uncertain continuity. There’s only Invincible … give or take a few infinite multiverses.

2023 was a weird time for films in Hollywood. The Dceu ended. Marvel failed. Newcomers set the box office ablaze with their take on the issues that are faced today. Then, the entire industry came to a standstill thanks to protests, where writers and actors united for their rights against studios and AI. In all this one question was routinely peppered into discussions about the industry: What about superhero films?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is an upcoming game that is based on a comic book miniseries with the same name. Finally stepping into a more mature story than what fans have grown accustomed to when hearing the words Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this adaptation will perhaps be the bloodiest and most brutal yet, and if it does well, maybe a start of a brand new gaming universe for the turtles in a half shell.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has undergone many changes over the years – from comics to movies, shows, and games. The core of the franchise remains the same – four mutant turtles battling a ninja cult. Black Forest Games will soon share their take on the beloved brothers, with a focus on The Last Ronin.

Cowabunga, dudes. Paramount Pictures has announced that the still-untitled sequel to last year's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" has locked in a release date. Mark your calendars for October 9, 2026, and plan accordingly. The date was confirmed by the studio in addition to several other moves on Paramount's release schedule over the next couple of years.
This might be seen as a bit of a good news/bad news situation. The good news is that Paramount is moving full-steam ahead on the sequel, which had previously been confirmed. The bad news is that 2026 is a lot longer than many fans likely want to wait. That said, it's good that director Jeff Rowe and the rest of the creative team aren't being rushed here. "Mutant Mayhem" was widely regarded as one of the best "Tmnt" movies ever -- if not the best (read /Film's 9 out of 10 review right here). Preserving...

Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us news on comic sales and the general moves in the comic market over the past month or so!
To start the Year in Review I’ll start with looking at sales by product type and then touch upon some general themes at the end.
Marvel Comics
2023 for me has undoubtedly been all about Marvel with back issue sales accounting for around 60% of the year’s sales. I’ve been staggered by the continued demand for Marvel back issues, especially titles from the late 80’s and early 90’s that I can remember hitting the shelves. Many of these issues, especially the likes of X-Men and Spiderman had print runs into the hundreds of thousands every month so you would think that there is an abundance of copies out there.

Idw Publishing is staying in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles business. The comic book company has renewed its licensing deal with Paramount, which has held the rights to the classic characters since 2009.
Under the renewed deal, Idw plans on releasing multiple titles in honor of the property’s 40th anniversary. Among them is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution, a sequel to The Last Ronin, which took place in an alternate future and was based on a long-lost outline from the 1980s written by Tmnt creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. The new installment arrives March 6.
”We are delighted to continue our relationship with Idw Publishing for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and graphic novels,” said Lourdes Arocho, SVP, licensing & publishing, consumer products, Paramount. “After 40 years, there are still so many more stories to be told, and we can’t wait for everyone to see what’s next.

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2023, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
In 2023, I wanted to laugh. Perhaps more than I realized, because when I finally calculated my top-rated films that came out this year, a great portion of my selections turned out to be either straight-up comedies or gripping comedy-dramas. 2023 was the year I embraced funny and moving movie coming-of-age stories probably more than any other, but to me, that genre isn’t only limited to what happens when 11-year-old girls experience their period for the first time or when Elvis Presley decides to take a child bride. For example, Paul Giamatti’s acidic classics teacher experiences something like a middle-aged puberty when he’s forced to care for an abandoned prep school kid during Christmas break in The Holdovers. Ah, Christmas. It’s a time of family get-togethers, going into debt, and TV and movie studios trying their best to cater to everyone. Unless you’re on the Hallmark Channel, and it’s pretty obvious you’ve got one specific demo you are targeting with extreme prejudice.
Over the years, many Christmas-themed movies and TV specials have danced across screens, both big and small. Some of them are classics like A Muppet Christmas Carol, or It’s a Wonderful Life. Others go out of their way to try and be extreme in their counter-programming, like Silent Night, Deadly Night (which has somehow made six total films over the years…good lord).
And then others are just so odd and unexpected that they deserve their own list, and that’s what we’re doing today. I’m not sure this list should be counted as Nice or Naughty; we’ll say...

Back in the 1990s, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was all the rage. Thanks to the hit animated series and feature film franchise, the heroes in a half-shell became one of the biggest pop culture sensations of the decade, sparking various imitators like "Biker Mice from Mars" and "Street Sharks." But there was no beating Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, especially when it came to the expansive action figure line from Playmates.
On top of the standard versions of all four turtles, as well as their adoptive father Splinter and primary villains Shredder, Krang, Rocksteady, and Bebop, Playmates released an eclectic array of villains along with a bunch of goofy variations on Leo, Donny, Raph, and Mikey. Michelangelo as a birthday clown? Done. Donatello as a cowboy from the Wild West? Yup. Raphael as an astronaut? You know it. Leonardo as a hockey player?...

Reimagining the turtles in a playful light, Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem recaptures the spirit of the late 80s. In a nutshell, the film features a more diverse and realistic cast of characters. By getting back to the basics of having fun, getting into action, and eating pizza, Tmnt may be able to recapture the popularity it enjoyed decades ago. Over the past 40 years, the four martial arts-skilled amphibian youth known as the Tmnt have certainly changed. Did Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem bring the infamous four back to life? Well, back in the early days of Tmnt, creator Kevin Eastman, along with...

The world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Tmnt) is set to undergo an exciting change. Jeff Rowe, the talented mind behind The Mitchells vs. the Machines, directed Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem. Now, he’s gearing up for its sequel, and fans can expect a few surprises, especially concerning the notorious villain, The Shredder.
Previously, in Mutant Mayhem, the storyline swerved away from The Shredder as the central antagonist. Instead, the limelight was on a new character named Superfly. But, for those who stayed for the post-credits, they caught a hint of what’s next. The scene showcased Cynthia Utrom, gearing up to recruit Shredder to challenge the Turtles, complete with his recognizable purple cape against the backdrop of the New York skyline.
If you’re curious about the direction Rowe plans to take with Shredder, you’re not alone. While chatting to Collider, the director expressed his thoughts on reimagining the character.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Like so many other children of the '80s, I watched the animated series religiously, dressed up as the characters for Halloween, had Turtle-themed birthday parties, and played with those awesome action figures.
So when Paramount was putting together some press opportunities to promote the home video release of its excellent new animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" and offered me the chance to speak with Kevin Eastman, who co-created the original Turtles comic with Peter Laird back in 1984, I immediately said yes, even though our conversation could only last five minutes. That's not nearly enough time to delve into all the different eras of the Turtles throughout their storied history, but in our short interview, Eastman told me about his favorite "Tmnt" movie moments, what it's been like...

Earlier this week, Paramount Pictures’ animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” crossed the $100 million mark at the box office, becoming the 18th movie of 2023 to reach that milestone domestically, but also, the final one of the summer.
Directed by Jeff Rowe (“The Mitchells vs. the Machines”), the movie was the brainchild of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who wrote it with Rowe plus Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. It featured a quartet of young newcomers voicing the heroic reptiles — Micah Abbey (Donatello), Shamon Brown Jr. (Michelangelo), Nicolas Cantu (Leonardo) and Brady Noon (Raphael) — in addition to Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Paul Rudd, Rogen and more.

Audiences have spoken, and they are continuing to speak in favor of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." The latest adaptation of the comic book heroes created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird has been slowly but surely piling up cash at the box office since its release at the beginning of this month. Now, the film has crossed a major milestone, eclipsing the $100 million mark domestically.
With $730,000 added to its growing total on Tuesday, director Jeff Rowe's animated crowd-pleaser has now taken in $100.57 million in North America, per The Numbers. As far as the overseas take goes, the movie has earned $37 million to date, bringing its grand total to $137.57 million. While that might not be a gigantic sum compared to something like "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" ($1.35 billion), the latest "Tmnt" film was produced for a shockingly reasonable $70 million budget. So it's already well on its way to turning a profit.

If audiences are tired of reboots and sequels, that hasn’t stopped them from flocking to see the latest “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie. Even as anticipated tentpoles like “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” have failed to break even at the box office, Paramount’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” managed to recoup half its $70 million budget five days after its release.
The animated movie’s success isn’t totally surprising given its comparatively small budget and stacked cast. But given that the last film featuring this IP, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” reportedly lost Paramount around $75 million back in 2016, one can’t help but feel the studio took a risk by betting on “Ninja Turtles” again in 2023.
So is “Mutant Mayhem” succeeding because it’s part of an IP that’s nearly 40 years old, or in spite of it?...

For those who were between the ages of nine and 12 in 1990, Steve Barron's film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was a banner event. It was the first time the ultra-popular mutants were seen in live-action, and Barron did not disappoint. The Turtles were provided by Jim Henson's Creature Shop who constructed full-body foam latex suits for the actors, as well as animatronic, full-head masks. Voice actors would record dialogue, and puppeteers would operate myriad facial servos by remote, making it look like the Turtles were talking. Each of the four title teens required a voice actor, a body actor, a facial puppeteer, and, in a few cases, a fight or skateboarding double. It took 11 actors in total to play four characters.
The result was rather astonishing. The Turtles felt more real than they ever had before or, arguably, since. The facial movements on the mutant masks may have been...

Though there's no way to determine the actual numbers, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is probably responsible for convincing most kids that they need to take up some kind of martial arts. Of course, most of them end up disappointed to learn that they won't be wielding any of the weapons that Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo whip around, and very quickly they come to the realization that practicing karate (or ninjitsu) isn't nearly as fun as beating up the Foot Clan. But that didn't stop "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" writers and producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg from giving martial arts a try, albeit in a more haphazard way.
Leading up to the release of "Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem" (which is a bigger box office hit than it seems), Rogen and Goldberg had some stories about trying to become "Ninja Turtles" themselves. In fact, they both told stories that...

The prospect of making a grounded "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film sounds decidedly counterintuitive to the very concept of the franchise. Yet, that's exactly what director Steve Barron did with the Turtles' first-ever live-action film, and with flying colors no less. It's honestly kind of a miracle how real so much of Barron's 1990 "Tmnt" movie feels. Yes, there are human-sized anthropomorphic turtles skateboarding and snacking on pizza in its sewers, yet the film's depiction of New York City is believably scuzzy and lived-in.
Then there are the four heroes in a half-shell themselves, who are brought to life by incredibly textured and emotive animatronic suits designed by the magicians at Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Most importantly for a film with the word "Ninja" in the title, they're able to convincingly perform martial arts in action scenes that are far more exhilarating and visceral than the relatively weightless tussles...

Barbie continues to bedazzle everything in its path.
The Warner Bros. blockbuster grossed an estimated $33.7 million at the weekend box office, the ninth-biggest fourth outing of all time domestically, ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home ($32.6 million) and not far behind The Avengers ($36.7 million), not adjusted for inflation.
Barbie — which zoomed past the $500 million mark on Friday in North America — easily stayed No. 1. Sony’s Gran Turismo was supposed to have opened nationwide, but the pic’s release was delayed by two weeks because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Meanwhile, Amblin and Universal’s genre Dracula pic The Last Voyage of the Demeter got lost at sea.

Last weekend's box office top five was hotly-contested, with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," "Meg 2: The Trench," and "Oppenheimer" all vying for second place. "Meg 2" ultimately landed the No. 2 spot, with "Mutant Mayhem" settling at No. 4. It's worth noting that "The Trench" owed its victory to $3.2 million in Thursday previews that, per box office tradition, were counted as part of its Friday total. "Mutant Mayhem" released earlier in the week, and therefore only Friday-to-Sunday ticket sales were included in its weekend gross. But either way, it was a very tight race with only a $2 million difference in the three movies' totals.
Now in their second weekend of release, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" and "Meg 2: The Trench" have swapped places and are starting to separate. "Tmnt" is on track to drop just 48 percent this weekend, adding $14.6 million to its domestic gross and rising to third place on the charts,...

The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" enjoyed quite a heyday throughout the early '90s. Along with the success of the live-action comic book film that debuted in 1990, the franchise was bolstered even more by the animated series that began a few years earlier in 1987. In fact, it was the animated series that inspired the beloved Playmates action figure line that churned out endless versions of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, as well as the extensive array of mutant villains for them to face off against. Some of those weird toys even inspired a few sneaky Easter eggs in the new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
Speaking of which, since there's a new "Tmnt" movie in theaters, of course there are new toys on shelves inspired by the stylish movie that refreshes the franchise in exciting and visually stunning ways. Paramount Pictures and Playmates sent /Film the basic action figures...

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" may have just arrived in theaters, but it's already being considered one of the best "Tmnt" films in the entire franchise. With a flashy animation style, a fantastic reimagining of the Turtles' origin story, and a stellar voice cast of actual teenagers, "Mutant Mayhem" has absolutely everything going for it. Not only was the creative team behind the film wise to cast actual teen actors instead of becoming yet another studio animated film plagued by the trend of celebrity stunt casting, but they also elected to record all of the Turtles' tracks together in the same room. This gave the film a frenetic, palpable energy that would not have been replicated by adults in private booths. Indeed, "Tmnt: Mutant Mayhem" brings the same rambunctious sensation of being thrown in the middle of a pizza party in the middle of summer break.

Summer 2023 is winding down, but we still have a few big movies left to squeeze some more juice out of the year's biggest season. One of those movies arrived last week in the form of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." Directed by Jeff Rowe, the animated take on Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's comic book heroes has been met with near-universal praise, and that's already paying off for Paramount Pictures at the box office in the early going.
Despite hefty competition (more on that in a minute), the film debuted to $28 million domestically over the weekend. But that's only part of the story, as Paramount released the film mid-week to get a jump on the competition. With a big Wednesday and Thursday to its name as well, "Mutant Mayhem" has already made $55.3 million, including $46.8 million domestically. Sure, those numbers may seem a little modest compared to what movies...

Fans of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" might be surprised to learn that April O'Neil, the Turtles' brave and plucky reporter friend, started her existence as a scientist and lab assistant. The character was first introduced in 1984 as a computer programmer who worked for Baxter Stockman, an engineer who built specialized robots that could burrow into bank vaults. April eventually gave Stockman the slip and was rescued by the Turtles. She opened up an antique shop and later retired to a farmhouse in Massachusetts. At no point during these adventures was she a journalist.
It wouldn't be until the 1987 "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" animated series that April (Renae Jacobs) would become a reporter, often investigating otherworldly phenomena and alerting the sewer-bound adolescents to any interdimensional or criminal malfeasance. In the animated series, April was rarely seen without a banana-yellow jumpsuit, a look that eventually became a hallmark of the character. In the 1990 live-action feature film,...

Critics be damned, "Meg 2: The Trench" managed to have itself a monster debut at the box office over the weekend. A sequel to 2018's "The Meg" starring Jason Statham, Warner Bros. once again cashed in on adapting Steven Alten's book series for the big screen as the film took in $142.1 million globally in its debut. The question now becomes, will the movie have long enough legs to justify its blockbuster budget? Or will it suffer a big drop in the coming weeks resulting in a costly misfire? There are many, many factors at play here, so let's dive in.
Per The Numbers, director Ben Wheatley's "Meg 2" took in a somewhat modest $30.1 million domestically, putting it at number two on the charts, with a huge $112 million overseas debut (more on that in a bit). In North America, it was a surprising result as "Barbie" was pretty much uncontested for...
