The movie's main character Nishi is based on Robin Nishi, the man who wrote the underground cult comic on which Mind Game was based. Some elements of the story are said to be autobiographical.
The faces shown throughout the show, belong to the actual cast, all of them being very well known TV personalities.
Eirin (the Japanese film board) presented Mind Game with a 'General Audiences' rating, despite its sex and violence, because they felt it was a movie that deserved to be seen by as many people as possible.

Despite premiering in 2004, the film never had an American release until 2018, with the exception of sporadic appearing on Netflix.
